I think that the quality of play is actually *worse* in daily games. In theory you have as much time as you want, but in practice people play a lot of concurrent games. You get home from work and you're tired and hungry and notice there are like 8 games that need you to play a move in within the next 3h... So you quickly go through each, try to figure out what's happening in it and play something that looks good enough. In rapid games you have time limits but when you play them you give the game your full concentration and play them when you are in a good mindset for them. I think that there are more blunders in the daily games than in rapid games of the same level. The only difference are in the end games as people tend to try and calculate those a bit more in daily games.

I need to thank you so much for this series, and in general, just your whole channel's worth of content. Prior to the current chess boom and discovering your channel, I was somebody who played chess rarely. I'd been an avid player from the ages of 3-13, and participated in scholastic chess competitions frequently...then dropped off the game. Upon getting back into it five or so years later, I found that I felt as if my over the board skill was almost "gone", per-se. There were concepts I knew I should be understanding, or that I once understood, that I had lost, and I suffered for it. I was playing at a 900 level online, if that. Then, I found this channel. The way you address strategic concepts like the "laserbeam" (skewer) or "danger levels", the fluidity with which you talk about opening and endgame theory; it's all made things click back into place and I feel like I'm myself again. I've gone up 200+ rating points in the last two weeks and keep climbing; my CAPS is more and more consistently placing me around playing at a 1700/1800 level, and god have I missed feeling like I can move around the board without fearing that every move I make is a blunder. Thank you, Mr. Rozman. I appreciate you so much.

Round 1: Black: 1507 (He found the right moves before the average 1000 en passants. Except for Be4+) White: 1451 (Castle pl0x) Round 2: White: 759 (Lame trades, Bad pins, and “Hey, lets just capture because why not?” Mentality really hurts you here) Black: 902 (If he en passanted, he would’ve been a 1000 in my eyes) Round 3: White: 1354 (Definitely lopsided in White’s favor) Black: 1014 (Boi…) Round 4 White: IDK Black: A Very Drunk Grandmaster

What Levy was also trying to explain at 13:28 but got lost in the thought process is that the only reason he "got away" with trading rooks there is because the Queen, unintentionally most likely was protecting C8 allowing the rook in A8 to re-contest the file.

Gotham, you are the best. The amount of legit chess content you put out, and how hard you work, makes you a huge positive to the chess community. Thanks for doing your best.

It isn't "fair" swoop or "fell" swoop, it's "fowl" swoop, like a bird swooping down and taking prey. I think
3 жыл бұрын
Nope, it's "one fell swoop". It's from Shakespeare originally; one definition of "fell" is a synonym for "terrible" or "savage".

If you still don’t know the checklist Questions I ask myself before making a general move: What are the ways to check the enemy king through brute force or otherwise? Am I in danger of being checked through brute force or otherwise? Do I have any hanging pieces with no coverage or fewer defenders? If I have bishops still, are there any possible skewers or forks on that color? If I have knights still, are there any nice forking opportunities I see or can create? Do I have all of my pieces playing an active role or are some as good as useless? Have I made use of any open files or outpost squares that are available? If the opponent still has knights, have I considered options to limit their mobility?

Day 95: Of requesting Levy to cover opposite coloured bishop endgames. Especially when you have a slight material advantage of being up by two or three pawns against your opponent and you both have opposite coloured bishops as well.

Suggestion for improvement to the series - you should know and reveal the time control of the game from the start, and certainly before the guess.
