Hello Jean. I hope you are well and are having a wonderful day. I wanted to make you aware that since this video has had over 13,000 views I have had SO many people reaching out for support, of course I am only one person so unfortunately I am not able to help them all. However, I have been studying forgiveness in great detail and I am in the process of creating a program to help people who are struggling with self forgiveness. Would this be something you would benefit from? Shaun
@Janette_AJ Жыл бұрын
Yes. It resonated with me too. In fact, I almost cried because now I remember how my parents often shame me for mistakes I had done loooong in the past, including those I made even before I was able to remember things (yes, when I was barely a toddler). Now I live away from my parents and the healing journey is slowly opening my eyes. Every process and realization hurts but I guess it is necessary.

I think many people hold onto the mistake and the past because it's safe. It doesn't feel good but at leas they know the feeling. Letting go would mean taking responsibility of moving forward and bettering yourself. That responsibility is often unknown and uncomfortable, so people rather stay in the past rather than move on.

This is one of the biggest things to deal with in life, dealing with past mistakes. I've made many mistakes deliberately and unintentionally! I refuse to give up on my dreams of being successful one day, even if others mock me and say "it will never happen." Hi Shaun. The mistakes I’ve made in my life have been apart of me for a long time. For almost my whole life, I’ve been procrastinating on my work, and going to bed at late time. But when I first got into college, those mistakes seemed to take a toll on my identity. I procrastinated on a bunch of my work, and in fact went to bed at late times. My family was hard on me for that, and yelled at me for the mistakes I made. I was mad at them for yelling at me, but I don’t blame them entirely, because those mistakes were bad, and they could in fact ruin my career and life. But now that I just turned 19, I want to take the mistakes I’ve made in the past and forgive myself for them. This will help me be more disciplined and make my sophomore year in college the best. I feel a lot better sharing this with someone who would understand. Thanks a lot

I've been in a few relationships where I was used or abused, but never really loved. Seven months ago, I met a very sweet guy and the more we got to know each other, the more we fell in love with each other. Something happened that caused me to go off and say some things I'm really not proud of because I have been so accustomed to being used and never really loved and it hurt him deeply. I've been so regretful and though he said he forgave me and that we would never speak of it again, I can't let go of the fact that I let my insecurity cause me to hurt the man that I love so much. It's making me feel like everything has changed, though we talked it over and he forgave me, I feel like I've done something that can't be undone, broken something that can't be repaired. It could just be me because I'm beating myself up with guilt, but I just can't seem to let it go and move forward positively, thankful that I have a guy who was loving enough to forgive me and let it go himself.

interesting video, and i think mindset plays such an important part for all facets of life. I appreciate that learning and developing as a person is dynamic, mistakes will happen and try to learn from them write down what you learned (I do it in my check out journal for the day) and also any principles that I have learned. One important thing I do is weeding, he he, life is too short for those that dont care or have genuine support for me. Cant deal with negativity so no need to try and reverse or please them... liberating to let it go and move forward!

I thought I forgave myself for a season that happened 3 years ago. Some that were involved haven't forgiven me, though I've apologized. I feel like everytime it comes up, I'm blamed all over again. I won't blame myself anymore, I can't change what happened. I don't know how to make them feel better. So sometimes I feel like just running away to reinvent myself. Where noone knows, or at least I wouldn't be reminded. But I'm sure I'll have to life with this, but do you have a suggestion that might make it easier? Perhaps a response that would shut them down, stern, but still polite. I appreciate your work. Mahalo
@millennialgeisha21922 жыл бұрын
I forgot to add, that each person I apologized to was via a conversation, not just an "I'm sorry." An admittance of guilt/remorse, the why behind it & the assurance that it wouldn't happen a 2nd time.
@ShaunHolden2 жыл бұрын
Hello Millennial Geisha. I really wanted to say thank you for leaning into discomfort, being vulnerable and sharing this with me. From the bottom of my heart I truly appreciate it. I do have a suggestion for you to make it easier, its to make peace with the unfortunate idea that you can not do anything about those people not forgiving you, we all go through our own healing journey at our own pace. Some people are not ready to forgive the other person even if the person who did wrong has apologised profoundly. Lets take the whole Chris Rock and Will Smith fiasco for example, Will has apologised and reached out and Chris Rock has mentioned he is not ready to talk just yet and that shows you that everyone processes things differently and at their own pace. In terms of shutting them down in a stern but polite way. I would offer a suggestion that can come in the form of a quote: "say what you mean, but without saying it mean." Unfortunately, we can never guarantee other people's forgiveness, that's why the exercise of forgiving ourselves is SO powerful and vital to our development. If you have any questions you can reach me on my email or Instagram, I hope the content I provide on my channel continues to help you as much as this video has. Shaun x

First of all, we have to accept the mistake done in the past, whether you can fix it or not, our only choice is to learn from the experience. Everyone makes mistakes like myself. Once I’ve learned it was only a negative choice we decided to do that turned poorly. I call it a poor event, but in reality it doesn’t define after you take responsibility for it. For my experience, the feeling of guilt is only momentarily so keep pushing yourself forward everyday the negative thought appears in your head. You may not get over it in a day, but once you only focus on the lesson rather than the pain you will beautifully grow. Keep strong you can do it and have fun life is to short to stress out.

I'm not so sure I can forgive myself. I feel like what happened at work defines me. I was taken to my supervisor's office with her and a high-ranking chef. They (or mostly the chef) told me that I've been touching my coworkers too much. Not THAT type of touch, of course not! Just casual ones, like on arms or shoulders. I was always very outgoing at work. When I asked her if anyone reported a complaint, she said it didn't matter. She told me that we need the workers to be comfortable in a good work environment, and that I pretty much shouldn't talk about anything other than work and school (I work at a university's catering service). She told me I shouldn't tell my stories because they may be inappropriate to my coworkers. Now yeah, I pretty much don't have a filter, and sometimes I guess I do say inappropriate stuff at work, but not horribly nor intentionally. I like to joke around and have fun with my coworkers (and I know they like to have fun with each other too), but I guess it isn't like that after all (more or less). I really didn't get specific information from the chef about what and who. She understands and likes that I'm outgoing, but she made it sound risky and in need of limits, for good behavior and my coworkers' sake. And again, that I shouldn't touch my coworkers (shoulders or arms) without their consent. But seriously, I'm not a creep! I don't randomly hug people or anything like that. I didn't mean to be so "handsy" (I say loosely). I'm so embarrassed about the office lecture. I am not like Biden at all. I'm really not. Have I really gone that far at work? It shouldn't have gotten to that point. I'm an adult, not a kid who needs a timeout or a teenager who gets detention. I've been depressed and self-doubtful ever since. I wish I wasn't on the spectrum; allistics are so lucky.

@@ShaunHolden I’m from America. I have a friend from southeast England and he sounds completely different from you. It’s crazy how there’re so many different accents in England. So you’re from northwest England ?

Sean. I had an affair while I was married. My husband had ED and unable to have sex. He was mostly uninterestee in showing affection or intimacy in other ways. So I turned to a former lover. I felt unwanted and undesired. The thing that bothers me the mist is that he suspected the affair and was upset but he is now passed away. No way to take it back.

Hello Andrea. I am sorry to hear about this. How long have you been wrestling with this problem? You and over 12,000 other people seem to really be struggling with Self Forgiveness and I know millions of others will be too. How long ago was this? Shaun

there's no making mine better. Straight up told my dad I was glad he was suffering on his death bed, guess I'm fucked.

@@ShaunHolden yea, I spent many years trying to justify that I felt that way and said it. He was a drug addict and he beat the shit out of me. Because of that and what an even worse abuser I met online did to me I went through most of my life with a chip on my shoulder. I was a straight up cyberbully, said that to my dad and I refused to let anyone close even my own partners (poly relationship). I have spent the last several years trying to atone for it only to watch all the good I manage to accomplish get undone by someone else. I'm just at that impasse where the only thing I can do is recognize why I was that way and forgive myself. I can't keep living this way. I want to make it right but I have tried for years. Thanks for the video though it helped a bit.
