I have been training my pitbull not to bite me by distracting her with what I DO want her to bite (i.e. her chew toys, pig ears, stuffed animals, or playing with a rope, because she is just trying to play with me). You have to ensure POSITIVE reinforcement and re-directing, not punishment. The yelp is because this is causing pain, and will not enhance your relationship, and will make them mad at you and create power struggles (i.e. they might fight back, or destroy something of yours because they are mad).

A well trained protection dog is told to sit and stay, the owned goes about 30 40 feet or so away from him. A man starts to attack the owner of the dog, ...... does the dog come out of STAY and help the owner, or does he stay as the owner told him to do ????

I commend you on your method of training. I also like how you do not criticize other training techniques while promoting your own. I’ve watched other trainers and while I’m not “knocking” the “all-positive” type of training I believe your method is superior in what I believe is the most important aspect of canine training. You train your animals as if you are human and they are animals while the positive method seems to teach the dog/animal that you are “like” them, not superior to them.

I did that on a litter of English/Pitt 25 years ago because of their mother (English bull). And I realized it may not have been the best thing for them. Their tails help in their balance when in full blaze mode. I really like what you are doing in your training methods.

@Denise-xy2ii6 жыл бұрын
Same!! Any advice ??
@MimiDidi1216 жыл бұрын
He's not a pitbull if he's 6 months old and 60+ lbs. He must be some bully breed, but not a pitbull. Pitbulls weigh 30-60lbs full grown. Too many people call too many breeds pitbulls when there is only 1 breed that's a pit bull. That's the American Pit Bull Terrier. I've had people tell me so many times that my dog can't be a pitbull because his head's too little. I just roll my eyes and shake my head because they don't know what a pitbull is. It doesn't take away how beautiful and wonderful other bully breeds are I love all Bully breeds but just because a dog is an Amstaff or a Staffordshire or an American Bulldog doesn't make it a pitbull. It makes it an awesome dog! It makes it had that same awesome personality that pitbulls have because they're all bullies, but they're not all pitbulls.

@@thescarecrow3733 mine is a rescue, but when the vet read pit bull mix he laughed and asked what's he mixed with? Pitbull? He's 10 months and he weighs 47lbs. He'll probably be between 55-60 typical American pit bull terrier male weight. Maybe push 65, I'm not sure. I've never had a male go above 60 and I've had some highly bred one's. I've had several bred by Tom Garner in North Carolina. In my opinion he's the best breeder in all of North America?

Watching this video makes me sad. Here is the HUMANE way to stop a dog from nipping or constantly biting you, this includes tugging at your pants etc. Take a newspaper, roll it up, not tight, must NOT hurt you if you smack your leg. Stick the roll together with tape or elastic bands. When puppy bites, hit your leg, or anything nearby to cause a LOUD noise and say "no", or "leave". He will get a fright and jump away. Keep doing this, he will get the message very quickly that when his teeth meet your skin something bad is going to happen (the loud noise). Some dogs who are stubborn will need lots of reminding. So walk around with the rolled up newspaper if you have too in your pocket. BE CONSISTENT with the word you use when smacking the newspaper. Say, 'no' or leave'. This word will replace the need to use the newspaper in the future. He will soon register what you are saying. Only snack paper if he bites, and DON'T USE YOUR HAND to smack a dog. He will see your hand as a weapon that causes injury, and be fearful of you. Some dogs have high pain thresholds and if you smack them they will ultimately think it's a game and their biting will only get worse. I see people in the comments section complaining their dog is biting worse after trying this pathetic attempt to hurt the dog in his mouth. You want to teach your dog that it's ok to bite and play rough when playing tug o war, etc, but his teeth on your skin is a no no. Some dogs will learn quickly, others can take up to a month to get the message. Just keep up with the training. Here is some added info to help you be a leader of the pack. The stare down method. Stare into puppies eyes, deeply, do not blink. He will soon submit, by making a little noise, lying down, rolling on his back or even walking away, etc. Once he submits don't speak to your puppy for 2 minutes or so, otherwise he will think he's the leader again. Use this in conjunction with the newspaper and you'll have a wonderful doggie that's not afraid your going to hurt them (like in this video) in no time. And yes this information I've provided is for Pitbulls, Bull Terriers, and other dominant or aggressive type dogs etc. 👍😃 You'll have your dog taking a dog biscuit out of your mouth from between your lips as gentle as a feather in no time as your dog will know NOT to hurt you.

Thanks. Puppy teeth are really sharp and I've got scratches and nips all over the place. As much as I love my pup, she can sometimes be so overwhelming. Speaking of which, my going-two year old dog is fine with her but snaps at her when she gets annoying. I know, that's naturla and all, but sometimes I'm afraid he'll bite her. I'm paranoid with those things because his older brother (RIP) used to fight with him a lot and sometimes end in some tears and bleeding, exactly what I want to avoid with my new pup. Also, food guarding with my older dog. He grew up with siblings and is always so protective of food. Once, I was feeding him and the pup came running to get a bite. He snarled, but the puppy won't listen and came bounding back. At this point, I interfere before anything else happens, and I leash her. God, I was scared to death. What do I do? My older dog used to tolerate her, sweet thing, and never hurt her but had understandably became irritated with her. I'm fine with behavior correcting, but I'm afraid it might escalate into something much, much, more than I intended to. Please help!

How about a 1.5 year old pitbull boxer ? I got him from a shelter 2month ago. The biting and nipping I could mange by exercising more and training. But now, when he gets over exited when I came home or if I’m eating he barks very loudly looking at my yes and it sound a angry bark. He kind tries to bite me too. but he hasn’t bite me strongly YET. Can anyone he help me? I’m doing my best to keep him out of the shelter. I’m afraid they will have to put him down because nobody never picked him. (Because of his biting issue) thank you!
