The only time rotating tires will help is if you have a 4wd / AWD vehicle, because you have to change all 4 tires at the same time on those cars. But for FWD vehicles, you can just change out the front and back tires in pairs when they wear out Thanks for watching! Like and Subscribe for More Vids Daily ► kzbin.info/door/uxpxCCevIlF-k-K5YU8XPA

As a mechanic, I must say. We don't rotate tires because of how well the tires are made, we rotate them to maximize tire life. Tires will wear more on what we call "drive wheels". This is to say, the tires that receive direct power from the transmission. That way, you can keep your tires for a longer period of time.
@rfarevalo
@rfarevalo Жыл бұрын
So once you rotate the tires now you "rear wheels" are on the front "drive wheels" and will start to wear rubber more. So now you are wearing those wheels at a faster rate. There is no benefit. Overall cost to the motorist is the same. I replace my front drive wheels when worn, you apparently want to replace all 4 wheels at the same time. Do you rotate your brake rotors too? :-)

@Dreson45
@Dreson45 10 ай бұрын
Tires are one of the most important parts on your vehicle and their condition should be taken seriously. Front tires typically wear much faster than rear tires due to multiple factors. These include alignment angles, drivetrain, weight distribution, cornering, braking, and driving habits to name a few. Front tires will also wear unevenly compared to the rear tires even when alignment and tire pressures are set to specifications. This is due to alignment angles inherent to cars that are necessary for stability and to counteract road crowning which is common on almost all roads. Due to these facts, it is best to maintain even tire wear on all four tires for the life of the tires. Worn tires can cause driveability and handling issues without even mentioning safety. Most drivers won’t notice these effects on dry roads but you have to account also, for low traction conditions. That’s the reason treads exist. Another factor not mentioned is tire age which is a serious safety concern. If your front tires wear out four times faster than the rear, for example, how old then are the rear tires on your fourth set of fronts? There have been many cases of fatal crashes due to old tires. I realize some vehicles have staggered tire sizes and also directional tires so rotations aren’t even an option. In those cases, the tires should be replaced in pairs or sets depending on wear, condition, and tread difference. I can’t agree with Scotty on this one. If you can save money, certainly do that, but you shouldn’t do that at the expense of safety, for yourself, your family, and everyone else on or near the road.
@MarzNet256
@MarzNet256 3 ай бұрын
Tread on road tires is not for traction but to pump away water on wet roads which prevents hydroplanning. This is a common misconception. In dry conditions a smooth tire has maximum traction. Just look at F1 tires.

Scotty suggests replacing tires in sets of two. The problem with this is that tire manufacturers discontinue tire models after a few years. It does make your tires last longer. If you have a car that never rotated their tires and a car that has rotated their tires, the one with the rotated tires will obviously have longer life. There have been many proven examples of this no matter if it's AWD, FWD, OR 4WD.
@gloomweed318

Not necessarily. It depends on the pattern of your tire too. Some are NOT the same mirrored, while other tires are. Then you also have tow in and tow out as well as camber angle. If your alignment is perfect, and your tire pattern is the same regardless of direction it spins, then you have perfect tires that do not need to be rotated.

I think he means to not pay to have your directional tires swapped to the other side, not rotating front to back. Rotating front to back can be a good idea to level out the wear because of the fact that the front is way heavier than the rear, and so the front may wear a little faster.

If you never rotate your tires, you will end up always replacing them in pairs, and (depending on how much you drive) you may have 2 tires that are significantly older and less sticky compared to fresh ones. It just makes sense to keep your tires wearing at the same rate so you can finish them all at once and get a matching new set of four when the time comes.

I did not say no adjustment, I said almost no adjustment. The rear end pretty much is non adjustable. Front end barely has toe, very small degree. Camber and caster non. So my statement is still true. Now there are a very small number of cars like a Miata that has all those adjustments and to a very large degree but that is an exception to the norm, an outlier.
