So... like dynamite? It was invented to be a safe explosive (I know, safe explosive is a bit of oxymoron, but in this case it means "it will explode when you want it to explode, not when you carry it and sneeze"), but then somebody figured out that it is perfect for blowing up bridges, cargo and people. And Nobel was so heartbroken that he gave up nearly all his money for establishing Nobel prize for (as he said) "those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind" and that is why there was peace from the beginning.

Same. I'm a woman who doesn't wear makeup, ever. (It saves you an absolute fortune) Nobody cares if you're not wearing any (men 100% do not, that's for sure), and pretty much everyone will not treat you differently. I can expect a few insecure women not liking how you're comfortable with your own face when they aren't, but that's about it. And I get the benefits of gradually over time learning to love my face for what is naturally is, no matter what. It is me, it is unique, and I'm not just some copy of someone for 100 quid. I don't have to worry about lipstick, foundation, etc. getting on anything I use such as cups and clothes. And after years upon years of doing it... I love the way I look. If they always cover up their face: I am NOT surprised the natural them doesn't make them feel comfortable, because they're so unused to seeing it (nevermind that makeup will make your acne a whole lot worse, so the cycle repeats). Women need this advice every single day: you don't need to impress anyone, not even yourself. Your own face is impressive in and of itself, and the more self-confident you become in your OWN skin, the better you'll feel about yourself and it will last a long time. Nobody secure would matter.

My heart breaks for all these young people being so insecure about their own natural looks that they want to artificially change it, all by looking at fake faces and bodies their whole life, heavily worsened nowadays by the "selfie-effect". It seems like unrealistic beauty standards are a thing way more online than IRL. My mom is 76, she's healthy and still has nice hair, but no skin care routine whatsoever. Seriously, she never wears sunscreen and doesn't even own facewash. I just turned 40, and put definite effort into beauty, and while I do get more compliments and flirtation, my mom gets hit on more, and by people who are genuinely interested in her. She gets out way more, and is friendly and open, not afraid to be herself. Even though my mom will say that she wishes she could be more "beautiful" like me, it seems her outgoing nature, and untouched beauty are actually more sought after.

That's what'll suck most for these people. Everything in fashion goes in waves. Right now, giant asses that look weird to me are the trend. A few decades ago it was flat butts that also looked weird to me. It's like the "current thing" is what's uncommon, then there's a rush to conform so it's not uncommon anymore and people who liked that thing are bored, so they like what's different from the new norm, another rush to conform and it's common again. Better to just be yourself so the person who likes who you already are can actually find you. Instead people keep hiding and altering themselves so you never find someone who'll like you for you.

Oh hey! It’s me! 🙌 This is such an important video! Thank you so much for talking about all of this! I am truly honored you found value in my tiktoks! 🙌 My main goal as a boudoir photographer is always to help folks rediscover & reconnect with themselves and their intrinsic beauty. And to relearn how to see themselves. Cause you’re right, social media is genuinely harming the way we perceive ourselves and I don’t think that’s on accident. The more insecure with ourselves we are, the more motivated of a consumer we are. The more likely we are to spend money on new & different products and items and invasive procedures. And not to be corny or cheesy or anything, but like, we literally don’t have to do that. We are legitimately all beautiful in our own ways and I hope as a society we start to remember that more and see ourselves with much kinder eyes.

But, if make-up can be washed off, a botched surgery can't be unbotched.

"My face, I don't mind it, because I'm behind it. Its the people in front that I jarr." My mother always quoted that to me from something she came across somewhere many decades ago. Every time I catch myself feeling ugly I just chirp that little ditty and it makes me smile. I only wear makeup for special occasions, and I just don't bother to look in the mirror beyond basic am/pm hygiene. I am married to the very best man on earth for close to 20yrs, and we tease each other every time a new grey hair crops up somewhere (hate to tell ya, kids, they aren't only on your head 🤭). And despite my bajillion signs of life - I mean, aging, I could not be happier. Seriously, find a way to just be you, and joy and authenticity will be within reach. I promise. I'm a (straight) male, and I don't have TikTok (despite people, women mostly, trying to convince me several times to download it). I rarely upload selfies at all, anywhere. And yet... I feel this pressure. I feel it when I look in the mirror each morning, and I especially feel it when a random stranger insults me and my appearance (usually when drunk), which has happened more than once, or a date goes badly, or someone comments on the photos I DO upload to say that I look "rough" or that I've "let [myself] go", or something... People, including those we consider our "friends" or family, can be incredibly cruel. No wonder people's self esteem is shot. I've been around/involved with enough younger women to know how much this is affecting them, too, and I also know that, unfortunately, no matter how much you might try to tell them that those comments aren't true, and that they're beautiful, or that so much of this is fake... It doesn't seem to help, when those perceptions are already ingrained... All of this is very sad.

I *hated* my face, especially my nose, until I took a theatrical makeup class in college. The first assignment was "beauty makeup" and I tried to "correct" everything I thought was wrong with my looks. The teacher looked at me and said "This assignment isn't about giving yourself a different face, it's about enhancing the face you have. Don't make radical contour changes unless that's the assignment. Your face is fine the way it is." Spending hours every week staring at myself in a mirror and planning makeup designs that had to work with the reality of my bone structure went a long way towards helping me accept the way I looked.

to be fair, I've met girls that had literally 0 lips and got some filler, not an outrageous amount, a very light amount to give them actual lips. It was nice, it upped their kissing game alot and I particularly was fond of it. However thats *a rare exception* to the rule. I'm talking these girls barely had any pink on their face cause their lips were almost pulled all the way inward. Thin Lips was an understatement. So a little filler can be alright for most guys, its the point of making it *not noticeable* more than anything. But everything else outside breast reduction and the rare exception that a woman has a massive honker of a nose that ruins her whole face. Its all off the table lmao atleast for me. (also dated a girl with a nosejob and I couldnt even tell she had one cause she actually just removed around an inch off her actual nose, couldnt blame her. Wasn't like a full rebuild job that most people get which is as bad a botox with how obvious it is.)

Same as groups of dudes who are geared up muscle hunks at the gym, perfect for Grinder, but most women do not like excessive muscles, muscles yes, excessive muscles no, I imagine they look the same as a women with ZZ sized hooters and a 20" waist look to men, out of proportion and bizarre.

Back in the late 2000s, we had a mandatory summer read of a book series called The Uglies that very much reflects what we are seeing today. It was a dystopian world where everyone was legally obligated to get plastic surgery to be attractive because people got so sensitive to what normal people looked like that it caused people to have severe mental breakdowns if they saw even the slightest flaw on someone and anyone who refused to get these procedures done were exhiled from society or even killed for endangering the mental wellbeing of the public. If anything, this sounds like the road South Korea is heading, but we aren't far behind either.

Sometimes I wear a bb cream then top it with blush and lipstick. When my fiancé first saw me without makeup he was so happy. He was scared I’d look completely different without makeup. Sydney you have a natural beauty I believe most people love to see. Face and body retouching have been happening for decades even before computers and software were available. My 50 plus years in graphic arts, many of which were doing color separations and retouching for popular magazines and advertising agencies to print, almost always involved cleaning up flesh tones over the entire body. It was difficult in the old days, and expensive, to do such retouch by hand on the prints, transparencies or the separation films. I was so glad to finally see computers and software that could do that in a fraction of the time. It's a shame and sad to see it being so misused.

@@JoaoVitor-qy3zeThe problem is that they say they're not doing it for men...but then will turn around and talk about how much they go through to meet the unattainable beauty standards men have for women. Those are contradictory but women don't seem to notice. You can't be empowered and powerless at the same time.

It's the non-rhotic 'R's' in the Australian accent - she puts a conscious effort into pronouncing the 'R' like most Americans would, but she definitely slips back into the Australian accent a lot in the last couple videos I've heard, where her 'R's' almost sounds like 'W's'. And there's nothing wrong with it, I smile every time I hear it, and not in a bad way!

I love your content! Thank you for standing up for woman and educating REAL people about REAL issues. This world is Hell. One of the best things I've heard is 'if it's hard to capture the Moon in it's beauty, why do we believe the camera could capture our own beauty.' This is mental illness at it's best. I try to help woman build confidence and take care of their skin.

The only time I ever went to a plastic surgeon was after I had brain surgery. My hair didn’t grow back in a large spot on top of my head. I had an outpatient surgery to try to fix it. I felt awful afterwards and the procedure didn’t work. But I’m very low key. I dress casually and never wear makeup. I wear a hair covering on my head while out and about to cover the bald spot. I think plastic surgery just makes people look awful and unnatural.

I was always out of the loop when it came to "beauty trends" and "beauty standards". The only time I ever felt left out was because my mom wouldn't let me get my ears pierced until I was 13. Otherwise I never cared about my weight, putting makeup on or how my face looked. I still don't. But seeing a lot of these folks distort their face for pictures is very concerning! There is a slippery slope for stuff like this, and I fear what is at the end of it. I bet this has something to do with our increase in narcissism. 😬

The people, who do it to themselves, often times are insecure, and want to slow down aging. Often times they are people, who don't have that much to offer besides their looks. Secure people, who know, what they are worth, and why, usually don't do that. The doctors, who do it, are greedy and want money.

As someone who has traveled around our sun 54 times, this IS a problem... I've never taken a selfie, and probably never will... we as a society need to realize that we are who we are. I'm glad you haven't done anything to alter your appearance, as you are beautiful the way you are. These types of surgeries were initially dedicated to helping people who were in accidents, etc. I can see that use case. Hope you're doing well Miss Sydney!

I have always struggled with these issues, I don't look in mirrors long except to put on makeup. I take maybe one selfie a year if I am brave enough. I don't consider myself ugly or feel like I need surgery but have always had issues with my skin, being a ginger I never felt like anyone else around me, but I notice so much redness others don't seem to notice, but is glaring to me. I hate to see anyone struggle with these things, I have grown more content over the years but it is still very much a problem. I'm also not wrapped up in so many magazines and websites that give me worse insecurities and I think people should do more to escape that also, it makes a big difference.

Growing up in the 2000s to now it's genuinely scary seeing the normalizing of this and unfortunately feeling like i myself need it at times from my body shape to acne, this topic is extremely important and it's a genuine blessing to see this brought up when at 23 years old i worry more about a face care routine than anything else because of how i always see everyone posting their flawless faces with no blemish and i sometimes forget that they're in the same spot as i am, theyre just covering it up a bit more than in the moment i pay attention to. Watching this video kinda struck deep because i remember the 2015 filter boom and i never had a picture in highschool that wasnt filtered, im only now accepting how I actually look and am slowly starting to be happy with me, especially doing things to gain confidence like taking care of myself, but this filter dysphoria is huge and is going to alter many generations at once, unfortunately.
