My favourite one is: Search me, because in a million time neither would I have guessed it meant IDK! (By the way, please tell me if my sentence is correct or I made any mistake, I would really, really appreciate that because I’m practising for IELTS test. Thank you!)

How do you create a mixed conditional? What’s the difference from the earth to the moon? How many plays did Shakespeare write? What’s your mother’s birthday? 30 Alternative Phrases to “I don’t know” Informal and Formal English Different Expressions will have slightly different meanings. 1. I haven’t got a clue. Meaning: to have no knowledge about something, or to be unable to remember something. “Have you seen your sister? Did she go out last night?” “I haven’t got a clue!” 2. I haven’t got the foggiest (idea). Meaning: to not know anything about something: “Do you know if we need milk at the supermarket?” “Really, I haven’t got the foggiest idea.” 3. I have no idea. Meaning: to not know anything about something: 4. Search me! Meaning: to have no knowledge about something, or to be unable to remember something. Warning: This can sound rude. “Do you know when the exam results are coming out?” “Search me!” 5. It’s beyond me. Meaning: to not be capable to know something. It’s not something that you can understand: “Do you know why they broke up?” “It’s beyond me!” 6. I don’t have the faintest idea. Meaning: used to emphasize that you do not know something: 7. Beats me! Meaning: said when you do not understand a situation or someone’s behaviour: “Who won at football last night?” “Beats me! I didn’t watch the match” 8. How should I know? Meaning: I cannot be expected to know: “Did your mother come home yet?” “How should I know dad?!” 9. If only I knew! Meaning: I don’t know But I would like to. “Any idea why she’s so grumpy in her bedroom today?” “If only I knew!” 10. I wish I knew. Meaning: I really want to know. “What are the lottery numbers gonna be tonight?” “I wish I knew!” 11. I couldn’t tell you for the life of me! Meaning: to have no knowledge about something, or to be unable to remember something: “When’s their anniversary? I’m sure it’s coming up!” “I couldn’t tell you for the life of me!” 12. Your guess is as good as mine. Meaning: if you don’t know then why would I? “Do you think she’s going to pass the exam?” “Your guess is as good as mine!” 13. I can’t make sense of + (it/noun) Meaning: unable to understand something that is complex. “I can’t make sense of this recipe at all! Do you know how to make this?” 14. I don’t know.. but… Use these phrases together to show you are willing to learn. 15. … I can certainly look into it… Meaning: I will research and find out. 16. …I might know someone who does. 17. …I’ll try and find out… 18. …I just need to double check… 19. …and I’ll get back to you. “I don’t know but I can certainly look into it and I’ll get back to you.’’ 20. …and I’ll let you know. 21. …and I’ll give you an update/I’ll update you. 22. I’m not sure. 23. I’m unsure. Meaning: you might know something but you’re not confident. 24. Let me have a think about it… Meaning: I might know, Give me some time to remember. 25. I can’t recall/remember (off the top of my head…) Meaning: I don’t remember at this moment. (Recall is the more formal verb) “I can’t recall when her birthday is off the top of my head.” 26. Not to my knowledge. 27. Not as far as I know. Meaning: I don’t have the answer or information. 28. I don’t want to give you the wrong answer, so… Meaning: to avoid giving an answer unless you are sure you are correct. “Can you make a mixed conditional with 1st conditional?” “I don’t want to give you the wrong answer, so let me have a look in my grammar book And I’ll get back to you!” 29. That’s a good question. Meaning: I don’t have the answer. “That’s a good question, I’ll definitely look into it.” 30. I’m not sure I’m the best person to ask/answer that… Meaning: I don’t know because It’s not my area of expertise. “Do you know which is the best gym around here?” “I’m not sure I’m the best person to ask.”

Dear Leila, I have amazing news to announce. I passed my CPE exam with overall score 207!!!! I'm thrilled to bits about that and I really need to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support you have given to me!!! Love you so much 💞 My grades in detail: Speaking:213 Listening: 194 ( it was bloody difficult; that's why I failed) Writing: 196 Use: 229 ( nailed that for some reason) Reading: 201 The top mark you can get for every part individually is 230. I'm super excited about my score and I couldn't wait to share it with you!

Thank you for offering us another spiffing video! I have also heard : Don't ask me! Which sounds quite rude and dismissive to me and could qualify for the first half of the list! Another good alternative to " I don't know" - when replying to a request for road directions- might be: Sorry, I can’t direct you - I’m a stranger here myself.
