I get a lot of inspiration from social media, but sometimes, I consume too many good ideas simultaneously and get confused and stuck , unable to get started...still learning how to limit my consumption to get good results

Saaaammmee here. I would try to get reference just for a few hours but then it will last for days, so my painting will only get started after a week :( Maybe because I am trying a new technique, but I really work super slow. It would be great if I had dispensable income so that I can just buy the things I need for reference like things for still life, but I rely mostly on images. It sucks.

I would really love to see the Milan Art podcast interview more people outside of their family. I have watched/listened a lot of your video's and I'm starting to find that I'm hearing the same informations come across different podcast topics.

i really enjoyed this video ,i have been consuming art like an artist for 28 years ,it first started with Bob Ross and Dona dewberry 28 years ago ,my 2 boys went off to school and i needed something creative to do with my new found free time,i just wanted to paint a realistic rose ,i ended up with a huge bookshelf of painting books and magazines,i was 36 at the time , i have a book or even movie in me ,but never plan to do that,i spend everyday in my kitchen painting and creating art journals,i have my walls filled with my art , i do not plan or know what i will make,i am 64 now i am on a widows income ,its more than i used to have, but not enough to say i have arrived,im so grateful to God for my passion ,thank you good luck in your book

You are correct Jake, lately for me it has been all things Milan! I’ve been circling for a couple months now…I have technical ability but no creativity…I literally have to find something to paint (and how) so I’m a slave to KZbin. If I put out the money for the Mastery course (which I don’t really have now that I’m retired on SS) and then failed…it would shatter me I think. So stuck in the muck I stay…. PS I would love to read your story you two are so darling.

Cant wait till the book comes out, if your having that much opposition then you HAVE tonfinish it, you will onspire and minister to so many people. I have one of those stories myself, but I have no clue about writing something like that. I will be praying for encouragement and strength for u to finish it 😊

OMG you must of been reading my mind!! I even feel guilty for not watching everything Milan releases too! Then add in local peers wanting participation in this class or this event it seems hard lately to just spend quality time in my studio. I’m still trying to get out of my left brain and learning to not think so hard about my creative process and bam I catch myself being distracted with social media and looking at what artists are producing and it makes me question my own ability. I’m also searching and searching and searching for what to create next. I’m like Jake too … I’m a planner. Oh boy yes I’m just like him. 😅

I can relate to this. I paint when I have time and hate that feeling. I want to paint all day every day. I've been paint here and the there, following tutorials, not creating my own. It's frustrating and want to paint freely with my own creativity

Hi. Exactly, you need a plan, too the exact poi t. You follow through the point form, you get started and then complete the painting, or work. Cheers.

Jake, definitely this video resonated with me. It's very interesting what Dimitra said about controlling what we see, as it really affects our work. Regarding the book recommendation, I read the book you suggested last time we met in Miami, 'Steal Like an Artist.' I thoroughly enjoyed it; it was an awesome read! Also, I can recommend 'The Artist's Way' by Julia Cameron. Love your show, keep up the good work! PS: Awesome editing indeed!

Just for the record: If you can’t self-motivate to save your life, it’s possible you have undiagnosed ADHD. Which is an awful name for what is essentially a disorder of your brain’s executive functions due to a lack of dopamine and a frontal lobe that has developed differently: The frontal lobe is the brain’s control system; the back hosts your knowledge and experience. ADHD cripples your brain by truly splitting it in two: You can’t apply what you know, you can only think about taking action. Your brain is like a car with a functioning engine that has been disconnected from the ignition. And no productivity mindset in the world can make up for the lack of a critical neurotransmitter (just like no amount of pep-talk will convince an underactive thyroid or adrenal gland to produce enough hormones). It’s a neurological disorder for which you need medication.

I think Instagram is a total waste of time, so I ditched it after a few months of use and do not miss it one bit. I do find some inspirational artists on KZbin. It's cool to see the great variety of techniques and styles out there. Inspiration can be found by spending time in nature, a much healthier way than social media IMO.
