Someone commented on another video of the scene, that this movie had famous and popular actor play relatively small but important roles, whereas the main characters were unknown to many, thus making it more realistic and making the audience have a sense of the importance of those people as soon as they see some big actor playing it.

@@MisterHowzat Yes, the Colonel refers to him as 'Major' a few mins earlier. Officers in the first world war were more likely to die than non officers. They had to lead from the front

It’s crazy to think Jack Marston had to go through this solely because he just had to choose revenge and kill Edgar Ross. If he hadn’t done that the government would not of declared him a suspect in Edgar Ross’s death, forcing him to go on the run, falling in with a small gang of outlaws eventually getting captured and had to take a deal with Archer Fordham to fight in World War I as his sentence as opposed to sitting in prison for life or hanging. At least Archer was a man of his word, and when Jack came back, he was officially declared a freeman by the US government. and went on to live a happy life in peace and died a successful old rancher who also had a few best selling books.

That is largely a left wing myth. We won the First World War, so presumably the leadership on the allies side was at least better than the German side. In the UK officers were professional military. They led from the front and were more likely to die than the ranks in battle

@@gabrielmarceloecheverriadi2286 This is not true - it was the only way they knew how to fight warfare at the time - and is mainly the reason how warfare is fought today - they was mostly capable leaders. its no different when lines of men marched towards muskets..
