Aggression is why I no longer have more than TWO angelfish. Wanted a peaceful tank viewing experience... can't have that with angels. So now I have a huge tank with two angels. Lol.

Same reason why i only keep small fish like guppies and rainbow fish
@sillyheadphone21 сағат бұрын
Yeah, i had 6 angels battle each other out in 1 tank, only 1 male survived with 1 blind eye from fights. Never buy angels anymore, even pairs always eat their eggs for the past 4 year, and not fertilized, eventually the pair killed each other.

lol, that reminds me of my convict cichlids were having babies in petco tank, i bought the pair out of petco, so the rest of the convicts were feeling happy again.

I have six oscar fish, one of which is the largest and the other five I have been adding since they were very small, they have been growing and it seems that the big oscar is leading them because so far they have not attacked each other, it is like If the greatest Oscar would supervise them for a healthy coexistence

I have a large redtail shark that was being a total nightmare in his previous owner’s 75 gallon. He was beating up the guy’s bala shark, tiger barbs, and goldfish… I put him in my 8 foot 240 gallon with Congo tetras, roseline sharks (Denison barbs), Siamese algae eaters, and boesemani rainbows, and he has been fine ever since. Chases the Siamese algae eaters a little bit but that’s it. Bigger tanks sure help

I had to move my 3 year old corydoras from my 20 gallon to my 15gallon because my new male was constantly pecking at it. Yet betta doesn’t care about my group of emerald rasdoras or the snails. I think he thought the corydora as a threat and I also noticed unlike my other bettas I own in the past, he like to explore the bottom of the tank.

I keep two very large Oscars with about 30 Tiger barbs and 4 Silver Dollars a Jack Dempsey and 4 Geo's and one Bicher. I have in general a peaceful tank i have plenty of plants and logs i keep everyone FED i rearrange often.
@Whips_World14 күн бұрын
Oscars aren't mean. They can be aggressive towards smaller fish than themselves, but of all the big cichlids, Oscars are the weak sisters of the group. I've never found the Jack Dempsey to be overly aggressive, either. While I'm at it, two more fish I've kept, a Salvini and a bunch of Convicts, have never been overly aggressive unless they're being kept with fish that have no business sharing the same water with them. Now... Jaguar, Dovi, Black Nasties, and Red Devils? Ag-gres-sive. Far more so than Oscars as a rule. At least, that's the case in my experience.

I really liked this video. Best said just because it says "community fish" doesnt mean you're going to have peace. We had a female swordtale and she was a terror in our 29 gallon tank.

Exactly. I ended up with 2 tanks when I woke up to a kerfuffle 1 night (tanks are in my bedroom) a male WCMM was ramming females into the side of the tanks and nipping at the other male. So I removed Chaser into a temp tub until got his tank. Sadly 2 of the fish didn't survive, 1 had halve her tail missing but eventually grew it back. Minnows are supposed to be so sweet in big groups and I had 10 of them 😢

I just got me a 20gal tank. I been watching this channel for a week and I’m gettin ready to start the cycling of the tank and I’m doin some research on some fish. I haven’t fully decided on what I want/need yet. I want a nice little center fish with some schooling fish and I haven’t decided if I want shrimp or snails yet.
@blendingwitch620618 күн бұрын
Odds are if you want live plants you'll have snails whether you like it or not haha
@pannobhasa18 күн бұрын
I suggest a pair of nice gouramis and a little school of cherry barbs or tetras or danios. Snails are really good, though if you get shrimp you should have a filter they can't get into and hiding places for the babies

I have found the only "tropical" fish with no potential for aggression are the small tetras like neons and embers and danios and (harlequin) rasboras. All that can be called "sucker fish" and "catfish" have been fine too except in the case of most long bodied catfish, if it can fit in its mouth it will BE in its mouth at some point and you'd be surprised what can fit in there. Cory cats are an exception, though they MIGHT bump a shrimp over if it's in the way of a snack. That's it. All livebearers, including platies and guppies, can have aggression, though it's much more understated than known aggressive fish. Want a single "centerpiece fish" for your community tank? Be prepared for possible aggression and predation of shrimp. I have an anxiety disorder and fish tanks have played a key role in calming me down. I'm amazed at how well they do that. But put one aggressive fish in there and it will actually have the opposite affect. So I know all about this issue. For me it's a careful selection of peaceful fish with a good environment that makes them happy or nothing at all. If I want angel fish or sailfin mollies or discus, too bad. I can't have them. That's life. Sometimes life is about adaptation and compromise and wisdom and finding what you can be happy with, not what you always want. The sooner we learn this as hobbyists and really as human beings on this planet the better off we'll be as individuals. This was a very good video with very good advice.

This reminds me of a couple weeks ago where I saw one of my male guppies shoving a neon into the corner of the tank. Don’t know what was going on between the two but it sure was funny, never seen it before or since though

Aggression is easy if you want to take their time with it rather than jump to answers that are preferred to the fish keeper but not fish. Cichlids get a bad rap because of the choices made at home, it’s not as simple as blaming the fish for everything. But absolutely the wrong fish in the wrong environment is game over, couldn’t have said it better than you did. This is a great video with an important lesson and message, love you guys! Stay happy and healthy my friends!

Jason from PTA advocates feeding twice daily to mitigate aggression. I'm using this tactic with a juvenile RSG severum I've introduced to a mixed community tank containing cardinals and a otocinclus. There is also a population of bladder snails to munch on if peckish. I'm hoping that it will convince them that fish are friends, fish are not food, but time will tell...🤞

I swear that I was just hoping you would do this subject on here or the podcast because it's issue even in community tanks especially if you're a newbie. You hear all kinds of advice from increasing tank size, adding more hiding places or ultimately removing a fish from the aquarium

I once had a 12 inch rescue Pacu that accepted 3 other little rescue Pacu and four 3 inch silver dollars. They schooled together like family. However, the big pacu decided that it wanted to eat my adult red fin tin foil barb. Pacu are pirrana and it was horrid to know this fish had been killed by death of a thousand bits.There was nothing left of it. This pacu had eaten some smaller cichlids by first biting off the heads. I saw this happen. It was an evil fish. Some much for vegetarian. These fish were well fed. It was greedy.

I have a Uaru. Is it supposed to be peaceful. I have a 180 gallon tank that has great Danios and tetras. It chased everything in the tank. So I moved it to the 150 gallon tank slightly more aggressive fish. Such as blood parrots. It also chases those fish around. So just because a fish is not supposed to be aggressive doesn't mean it's not going to be.

I am still wondering who kept on killing my black skirt tetras (40 years ago). There were smaller fish in the tank, such as a WCMM, which were never harassed, or similar sized ones, like a pack of tiger barbs. Prime suspects could be the two Buenos Aires tetras or the chinese algea eater.

I was told that White Cloud Mountain Minnows are a very peaceful and good for community tanks, so I recently added 6 to my fully planted 20 gal long. Unfortunately, they immediately took possession of the whole place, relegating my preexisting one male Guppy and 5 juvenile Rice Fish to the four corners of the tank. My poor Guppy couldn't dare swim to the middle of the aquarium anymore and had to spend the whole day hiding in the plants at the edges of the tank. The Rice Fish were chased around, too, as soon as they ventured in open water. In the end, I had to gather the 6 bullies with the fish net, put them in a bucket, and return them to the LFS. Peace has been restored and everybody in my aquarium is happy again.

Cichlids are something else. Glad she's tolerating the male though. I think every clownfish should have a friend. 👍
