I've had my wrist hyperextended when blocking the hips. Some people will do a quick hip switch and slam down on the wrist to get rid of the hands. Kind of a dick move and hasn't happened to me often, but when it does life sucks. Just wanted to throw this out there as a word of caution.

Coach, I really enjoy your channel. I have been referring a lot of people to this channel, keep up the great content. Quick question, I feel like double leg takedowns demand more athleticism than other type of takedowns. Getting under your opponents hips and then being quick enough to change directions ( by turning the corner) before they sprawl takes some pretty good agility and speed. I've been struggling with double legs, but have a solid series of single leg attacks. Should I totally ditch the double you think?
@mac212
@mac212 4 жыл бұрын
Just practice switching from your singles into doubles. Whether you snatch single or high crotch, transfer hands towards the hips quickly and cut the corner. You’ll get it down man, don’t give up on it.

Good wrestlers don't even worry about the sprawl cuz it's gonna happen no matter how good you are,they start their attacks from the sprawl actually,that's what you need to work on,ur peek outs,build ups,switching to single legs and scrambles

Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have one question is it dangerous to do the extension of the arms that much of the possibility or arm-bars and other arm-locks techniques or it doesn't matter much because you are going for head control? All the best!
@jimo559
@jimo559 4 жыл бұрын
No. There’s a big difference between arm extensions for defensive “frames” vs arm extensions to “push” your opponent off of a superior position or reaching out to block punches
@MrGaspari88
@MrGaspari88 4 жыл бұрын
@@jimo559 thank you for the answer. could you please explain in more detail why are the frames so different in that regards? thank you
@jimo559
@jimo559 4 жыл бұрын
MrGaspari88 Don’t know how far you are along into training, but defensive framing is one of the most important elements to escaping bad positions. Each position has tried and true frames that will allow you to create space to escape. Without space you can’t escape. Not all arm extensions are subject to attack and the correct frame will reduce the risk of attack. Here in Brian’s video there is zero chance of an arm bar because Brian has framed on the opponent’s head and combining it with a shrimping of the hips out he has created a shitload of space to regard.

Combat wrestling is awesome. Love it! Have learned a lot watching them wrestling over the years. Those guys have always been ahead of the game. Many of moves we started seeing in jiu-jitsu tournaments in 2010s were already commonly used at Combat wrestling tournaments in 1990s.

I have noticed that Khabib often has his head against the body of his opponent. Maybe that’s part of his genius grappling and how he stops his opponents’ grappling defenses?

extra pressure/control but also a way to avoid giving opening for strikes, it's MMA so he needs to consider strikes whilst his hands are preoccupied with the entanglement.

Best channel ever! Random request. Would it be possible or worthwhile to do a video on Run the Pipe? I am white belt and was doing half hour stand up w blue belt who has fifty pounds on me and he would let me get a single leg but then stuff my takedown. He put wizards in and used his leg to hook me and even when he didnt do that he just hopped around on one foot and i was like tiring out my head trying to push it into him and rotate to take him down. I just couldnt finish the run the pipe unless he let me
@kanucks9
@kanucks9 4 жыл бұрын
Running the pipe can be tricky, so I agree that it would be a good video for Brian's almost excessive detail style. For you though - try some other single leg finishes! Sweep the leg, leg drag to take the back, drive in to get the double leg! If plan A didn't work, you need a plan B. And if the push that you're giving to off balance him isn't working, you need a credible threat to go with the push.
