Here is what I would like to see in 2020, the ridiculous prices going down. It is pretty clear from your stats that people don't want to spend an arm and a leg for lights and they should not have to.

I agree, especially when you see how much you as a consumer can pick up the raw parts for and you don't have the power of large buying on your side. That said I definitely would not throw any hate at BRS for the prices on their website since all of those big name ones are all MAP priced, and they can't sell them any lower even if they wanted to. So throw the hate at Ecotech or Kessil, etc they're the ones behind the scenes basically stating what the cost can be.
@lonestarpatriot876
@lonestarpatriot876 4 жыл бұрын
@@Mike__B I was not throwing hate at them. I was making a general statement that I hear hobbyists talk about all of the time. These types of lights are being produced in all kinds of industries where you pay less for pretty much the same type of lighting. I would bet a Radion Pro cost less than $100 dollars to produce. And BRS does choose what they sell and what they push in marketing. I know a ton of reefers and some have those high dollar lights but none of them are running them at full power, not a single one I know, and yet that is also what you are paying for, lights where you only use some of that power.

I have multiple different mix reef tanks. I have T5's, Kessils, and AI prime. One tank is 40g cube with only the AI. One tanks is standard 30g with single Kessil 350w (old school). One tank is 29G with only T5. One tank is 100g with T5's and LEDs. All my tanks are mixed reefs. SPS up top. LPS in the middle. Softys throughout. All of the lights are growing the corals. However some are working better than others. Through this little experiment I have conducted over the last 4 years I have found that a mix of T5's and LED's have the best result. The T5's spread the light where as the LED's add the higher par and shimmer. You will be very successful in lighting your reef with any of the LED's shown here in conjunction with T5's.

I think you guys are spot on with the 2020 improvements. Provide recommended settings based on tank dimensions, or even presets based on tank dimensions, but allow for customization as the owner's tank grows and the owner becomes more confident with the light. As much as I think I would appreciate that feature, the biggest challenges will be water quality and parameters.

I would like to see prices drop in 2020. LEDs and high purchase price have gone hand and hand since their introduction. Most reef hobbiest dont have several hundred to thousandsmof dollars to spend on lighting. The technology has not channged much mostly just increased wattage and improvements on LED color selection. I dont think we will be seeing that happen though. I do think we will see more built in defusers and better blending of the LEDs. Orphek has the right idea with the large panel instead of the cluster. If there was a way to combine the color of the Radion and the spread of the Orphek it would make the ultimate LED light.

search "LED grow light" on amazon. (P.S. when it says "1000W" or "1200w" its not actually that powerful, they just market it like that because they say that it can replace a 1000w HPS or MH. But just look at the PAR rating on these lights and the REAL wattage and youll see they are more powerful and much less money)

I had a Radion G3 Xr30 over my 60 cube. I wasn’t a fan. The mounting arm was cheap; the light sagged and I said that like how the cord exited the fixture. I find them far too expensive. I also shouldn’t have to buy yet another Apex module or a Reeflink to control the light. I’m happy with my Red Sea 90s over my tank. They’re easy on the wallet; easy to control; the colors are great and the light is blended. Time will tell.

Recently added T5s to my tank, went a DIY option because my tank has a 4' x 3' footprint and really didn't feel like 2 sets of hybrid fixtures plus I had all the parts from back in the day (I did have to replace a couple ballasts). My thoughts are 1) Man I forgot how drastically different color T5 bulbs were, ATi "Blue Plus" I definitely could see that green spike in it, but also I massively increased my maximum output without breaking the bank, went from PAR of 250 (highest rock) to 100 (sandbed) to 450 (highest rock) to 250 on the sandbed. Did so economically, and I get a blanket of light so everything is illuminated evenly with (hopefully) no brown sides in the future.

Did I hear you say switching intensity is death mode? I should find an intensity i like and keep at that? I have been trying to do that lately but I dont have it locked in to a program or memory since I am at home alot and dont work. I do gradually up it and lower it at night but I dont keep the day setting the same all the time. Is that crucial to do so? Also dont keep the white super bright but I do the blu. Is that whats important for growth is blue right? I guess, If not my corals would be dead because the whites went out last few days and thats why i got the biocube light for my small tank! Super cheap used and my friends biocube always looked nicer than my current orbit and saving money for lights for my big tank!! Truthful since using it i absolutly love the shimmer and great coverage if I used 2 for my big tank but not enough color pop and doubtfully power and par!

Bulk Reef Supply will that setup be able to handle SPS when I’m ready since the tank is shallow? I will stick mainly to softies and LPS, but would like to make sure the AI primes can support an SPS or two if I get brave enough. Thanks for the assistance and guidance!

What about the Aqamai LRM? Piont of contention, but i was able to pick up two of these bad boys for less than the cost of one! One new $246.00 and the other used needed a new power supply so ended up costing $100.00 (Ebay). I am surprised no one talks about these powerful wifi leds?

Yea, this would be nice but with the already outrageous price of lights I am sure that would just add several more hundred dollars to the cost of these lights. They would justify it by saying "look what a good par meter costs."....just my 2 cents.

I need an advice. I'm planning to buy a 24" cube tank as an upgrade for my 20 gallon tank in which i have a few anemones. I currently have a Maxspect razor light in this tank and the anemones are doing just fine but it won't be enough for a larger tank. I'm thinking of purchasing the 24" T5 hybrid without the LEDs for the beginning for the new tank. Can someone suggest what type of T5 bulbs I should use? Thanks!

Google “Best ATI Bulb Combination for Your 4 Bulb Fixture.” This will lead you to the ATI North America website were it provides the recommendations. Use 6 bulbs in the search if you have a 6 bulb fixture.

Shame that Maxspect didn't put a strip of lights were the flaps are! Why are the flaps even there? Its so obvious that these kessils and other lights need more than one to cover front to back because looking at your office tanks and the one in the middle with the t5 and kessils looks unbelievable and so much brighter and more coverage and light in the tank! So after watching this through I hope you will say the t5 and kessil combo dosnt put out a ton of heat and I can use in florida! I dont have room nor want to add a chiller! One other option maybe to add the strips somehow or stay with my currents because you know that using two covers the lighting from front to back and side to side! Just wish it had more color pop. I just got a slightly used coralife strip like they use on bio cubes yesterday in my 10 gallon and it has shimmer and its wider than the current orbit with more leds. I don t think the par is there though. I am now shopping for my 36 and soon to upgrade to a 72. What do you think or know about corallife biocube lights and current? I do want to have faster growth. After watching this and thinking ease of use and less disco, good color and the fact I cant screw up the settings to much since I am a newb it was going to be kessil until I saw your office tank! LOL I thought for sure no one could beat radions color pop. You guys dont agree on that? I dont get why they are so popular especially being so expensive. Maybe the 2020 will have a differet winner being gen 5 is in the game! My lfs has them and it blows me away of course he has tons of them! Also, do you think a person could get away with 4 small kessils on a 4 ft tank or would you need double the amount for the front to back coverage? Thats just so expensive. When will the perfect all in one light be made? Maxspect could have done it had the added that led strip on sides! What to do! LOL I typed this before the end and you guys are saying the same thing! haha. Thats why I wish the coalife biocubes were better and stronger because you only need 2 lights to cover the whole tank! Its 5 6 inches wide and can cover the entire lenght! Why dont kessil or someone change the form factor of the lights or something! sorry this is so long!
