As a 78 year old guy, I've found that most muscles lose size as they weaken (deteriorate) over time. You can see it in the spaghetti arms, scrawny chest, arms and shoulders etc. EXCEPT the calf muscles. Mine have stayed the same size as when I was a young athlete but wow have they gotten weak. THAT is my major hurdle for jumping rope. My calves can't handle my body-weight easily. You can see it in old men as they attempt to run. They run flat footed since they can't push off on the ball of their foot because of weak calf muscles. So, naturally, my calves tire quickly and their reaction slows down with each repetition and soon the rope is hitting me in the shins. The GOOD thing is that the calf muscles seem to regain their strength fairly quickly. Once my calf strength matches my bodyweight then I think my coordination will improve rapidly, too. I have found that Day 1 was poor just because of trying a new exercise that requires coordination. Day 2 was much better with an improvement from 4 skips up to 20 skips. Day 3 was poor because of soreness and stiffness in my legs and throughout my body from doing a new exercise. I haven't done Day 4 yet. If I have to, I'll do the jumping without the rope just to get the exercise in.

Thank you got making this video! I am horribly uncoordinated and often get very upset by it when trying to learn. I wish more people made videos focusing on teaching people like me how to actually move their bodies.

Really great feedback. I'll make a couple more geared towards that. You're not along and we all have to learn somewhere :)

This was really helpful thank you. I got a jump rope the other day to hopefully get some cardio in and I was so uncoordinated. I was so discouraged 😞 I will try and follow your tips and see how it goes. I really didn't think I could be that bad and uncoordinated! You make it look so easy I thought it would be a breeze. Thanks for this video and I'll apply your tips xx

I think I bought wrong rope for begginer. I bought wire rope, and I cant use it at all 🤪😵 what rope do you suggest for us to start?
@JumpRopeMom3 жыл бұрын
Yes, wire ropes a too light if you're just starting out. A PVC rope anywhere between 4 or 6 mm is usually perfect. Check out my line www.gratituderopes.com :)
