Great points. I don't think people realize how mindful you should be about the lines you are using. They certainly aren't all made equal and they aren't all the same even within the brand. You have to ask yourself some questions on why you are spooling certain line on your reels. Is the fluoro low stretch vs high stretch? Does the company's line run thicker or thinner than the advertsied lb rating? Is it abrasion resistant? Will there ever be a time where your line is too thick or too thin for what the bass want that day? (jerkbaits especially as you mentioned) It affects the bait and even your hookset. Setting the hook on a low stretch fluoro or especially braid compared to a softer line like InvizX you might fall on your ass setting the hook! Being purposeful with your line choice puts you a step above everybody else who didn't think that far or didn't think it is that important.

I think in general; you are 100% correct. I see no problems with trying different line to find what you like and can trust. Buying the cheapest mono or flouro, or even buying the most expensive, doesn't mean it will work for your needs. After trying several products, all my braid is J-braid 8x grand and Fluorocarbon is Abrais-X. What works for one person, doesn't work for another.

To me with two sons fishing every chance they get, myself fishing 4-5 outings a week AND my sons each loaning my fishing setups to their best buddy it became about the best line for the buck$ Been using Yo-Zuri co-polymer for 5 or 6 years now. 6lb, 8lb and 10lb for spinning setups and 15 and 20lb for my non frog baitcasting setups. I can not stress strongly enough how well Yo-Zuri co-polymer has performed for me. I will not say Ive never had a fish brake off but it is truly a very very rare occurrence I use Yo-Zuri co-polymer for all my spinning needs save for wacky worm fishing there I use 8 strand Power Pro to a Yo-Zuri co-polymer leader. I currently have 6 baitcasting setups with 15lb Yo-Zuri co-polymer 4 with 20lb Yo-Zuri co-polymer three with 30lb Power Pro braid and three spinning setups with 10lb 8 strand Power pro and 3 spinning setups with 10lb Yo-Zuri co-polymer and 3 spinning setups with 8lb Yo-Zuri co-polymer and three spinning setups with 6lb Yo-Zuri co-polymer I use blue painters tape to wrap the butt section of every rod wright the line and lb test cover that in clear packing tape also put a layer of blue painters tape on the underside of the real seat with what line and lb test is on that reel. I tride P-line Co-polymer and a few 100% fluorocarbon lines but I always went back to Yo-Zuri co-polymer because I just like its lower memory and just in my experience unrivaled abrasion resistance and knot breaking strength and as far as I can tell it over 95% invisible under water

I'm old enough to remember when you either used Stren or Trilene (XL or XT). When I became serious about fishing, it was still an all-mono game, but my choices were always copolymers. I know many people think copolymers are different than mono, but leaving aside the few fluoro/nylon blends, copolymers are single-filament lines (monofilament) lines made with two different _nylon polymers_. I fished almost all mono until fluoro became more available. Even then, I only used a small handful of lines. But with the rapid improvement of fluorocarbons and braids, and the arrival of JDM-originated brands like Sunline, the proliferation of technique-specific lines became overwhelming. Also, the absurdity of domestic pound test ratings, which are often labeled 20-50% lower than their actual breaking strength, it has become pretty much impossible to know what you're getting. So the desire to find a combination of being optimized for the technique I'm fishing and having properties (memory, abrasion resistance, knot strength, sensitivity, etc.) has come to feel like a years-long exploration that requires spreadsheets and journal entries, along with lots of extra hours of thought, to determine what I think is best. I still only use braid for a handful of baitcasting applications (the usual suspects), and mono is pretty much only for treble-hook topwater techniques. I'm sick of thinking about it, especially since I fish so infrequently from a boat these days, but I feel like I've benefited enormously from earlier explorations. Yikes! I guess I'll have to give people extra credit if they read this whole thing.

I had issues finding a flouro line though. After about a dozen different brands, the Tactical Bassin guys suggested Sunline FC Sniper. several years ago and I tried it. Loved it. Mono only for me bc I tried fishing the flood gates with braid and I lost to the Rookie and I learned quick what I did wrong. I also drift for trout at the highest level so I know the flaws of other types. Only time you need braid is big lures for stripers....like across Cape Cod or using Kastmasters for a reason you wouldn't think of. From brand to brand, they have advantages and disadvantages. Whatever works for you. In drifting for trout, we regularly check our line, even after a fish. It's all about what you want to do and what the line can do. For example, I need a supple line to sit on my baitcasters. The word supple has two meaning here; one, very stretchy and malleable. Two, sits on reels well, but still strong and stiff-appearing/feeling. Can't put it into words. Elite level cannot be worded. Sometimes I want a mono with a stretch or memory that will let me detect fish for a longer split second. Normally, I use my speed, but sometimes you need that for nibblers in flats or lakes for bottom setting. The big question is, has Ande downgraded its line? Back then I remember pulling cattails and bending Eagle Claw Salmon Egg hooks on rocks with 6 lb. For the most part, you adjust to the line. The line does not adjust to you unlike the lures.

And then for mono berkley trilene xl, zero issues with it so I’ve never tried another mono. …. I hear people have alot of problems with it but it works for me. Even the 8lb test on big steelhead trout as a leader on my fly line worked fine and those fish can be 12 lbs or so. I never broke one of them off either. The big game mono works good also. The only problems I've had was line twist on some baits but I use a spinning rod so I expect it to happen every so often.
@tagg946 Жыл бұрын
@@matthall8378 it was mostly my leader knots failing, from the braid side of the knot sinching down and pinching through the fluoro, or abrasion being so bad id have to retie after pulling a fish over a log or stick with lighter fluoro. i live in the same region, central indiana, so im often using 6-10lb fluoro leaders, pitching with bfs or light spinning outfits in wood and rock. ive never had an issue with other berkley line, i actually use their mono and big game braid fairly often, but the fluoro just gave me headaches.

Hmm- I never run into this because I use short leaders and I retie them before every fishing trip- so I know what I just put on. My average leader length is about 7-8 feet, so a spool of fluoro lasts me forever. I use FC sniper Sunline, Berkley X9 braid for my spinning reels, and Berkley X5 for my bait casters. I've been doing it now for the last few years and I really like it, it works for me. I don't fish clear waters though- maybe every once and awhile- but 99% of the time I'm fishing heavily stained to muddy water- which allows me to use shorter leaders.

For fishing worms on the bottom, pitching and flipping I use 40 to 50lb Power Pro with 17 to 25lb Sunline Shooter. I’ve got a lot of faith in the line I use. I did try another well known brand that many pro’s swear by and was really disappointed. Since I was going to use it on my cranking rods mostly I bought the largest spool of 12lb test they had. I put labels from my label maker under my reels to tell me what size of line I have on it and the date. Problem solved, no guessing

I have always 99% of the time use the same brand of line, just as I use the same reel brand. Having that same feeling , the same touch in my hand, it just makes it all natural, and I’m sure having the same brand line helps that feeling .

fishing line is like a golf ball. . you change clubs , you swing different ways, but in the end you know the ball and what it does for you. . the amount of spin, the amount of bounce, etc. . . if you golfed every hole with a different style of ball it would be "entertaining" to say the least, specially at the higher levels of the sport. I have 1 braid, 1 fluorocarbon , and 1 co-polymer that I use. . and I keep it that way for consistency sake.

Yep you just got To know each line’s capability

I went fishing yesterday. The 4lb I spooled up months ago. Was stored in a car and was still good enough to fish with. Not perfect but better than mono would have held up. Thanks for letting me know they still make it.
