Finally love for the belt squat. No one ever talks about how amazing they are. Bro try doing front squats on the belt squat. There’s a harness you can use and it works. Or maybe just use wedges so you get sloped into the more quad dominant position. Either way stoked to see someone other then myself like belt squats lol 😂

Thanks again Jonni, must admit i tend to stick with barbell squats, leg press, leg extension and my gym has a belt squat which i thought was just some new fad taking up space 😂 but I'll give that a go now! Always used to do smith squats 20 or so years ago but think I'll start bring those back now too. I did get very strong, very quickly doing pendulum hack squats machine (one without the back rest) around 10 years ago, but i found all that weight on the pads really aggravated my shoulder impingement when I went heavy on it so I stopped doing them

Zercher squats should be on there. Similar to front squat but I find it much easier to hold the bar in my elbows with a zercher pad on the barbell. No discomfort whatsoever with the zercher pad

I love my hack squat, and leg extension. esp long controlled eccentric motion on the way down, a solid 3 count. I like belt squat in that i can lift quite a load with it, but the belt ends up hurting my hip because it rubs, and cant sit proper. As for gob squats, i watched another vid, and I think the guy put it best for what they are good for, beginners. Great way to add a lil weight while they learn how to do the motion, and form.
@JonniShreveАй бұрын
totally agree! and the belt on the belt squat is a hit or miss depending on the brand. The one I have in the studio gym is amazing the Arsenal strength one is terribly uncomfortable!

@@JonniShreve fair enough. I just know last time i did the belted, my pelvic bone, near the top of the hip hurt for like two days after from the rubbing an shifting. I tried hack squat an loved it, just wish my gym had more than 1

What do you recommend for someone with hip and low back issues? It sounds like leg press and ext. I did squats for decades, but cant anymore. I love hack squats too, but I think it also loads my spine too much. Wish my gym had a pendullum or belt machine. Never really got into lunges as it seems hard to keep my balance enough to really focus on hitting the quads.

I would say the limiting factor would eventually be your grip, but also, as long as we emphasize an excellent stretch, it's a good option if that's all you have. But really IF you get a massive burn in your quads that's always a good sign of growth!

deadlift hit my lower lats hard :P
@100KGNattyАй бұрын
People get very triggered when you say the lats have a function and some growth doing the deadlift; which is pulling the upper body closer to the bar to get better leverage.

I agree. It's definitely a back exercise more than legs imo. Now maybe trap bar deadlifts.

I do hack squat, leg press, leg extension, hamstring curls. I don;t load my back up with weight cause I have degenerative disc disease. Plus it takes too much time. Plus stimulus to fatigue is not as ideal. Hack squats work for me. I think the thing is to rest at the bottom not at the top, so you’re pumping your quads not standing up and locking out. I’ve seen my quads develop more using these three movements, I don’t risk injury and I don’t spend too much time moving furniture around the gym.

@asprinklingofcloudsАй бұрын
@@shararm The good ones are the ones where you lie back at 45 degrees with the weight pads over your shoulders. The bad ones are where there is a backpad for your lower back and hips, this bends you over at the hips and changes the movement almost to a standing leg press but with inferior back support.

Where would you rate a V-Squat machine?
@JonniShreveАй бұрын
Man toally forgot that one. There are a few different version. I the one where you face out I found to be very uncomfortable, and the angle is terrible at the bottom. The other version which I think is hammer strength hits more hamstrings then quads. but it would be a option 3 borderline "this all they got"
@1999TransAmWS6Ай бұрын
@@JonniShreve Yeah, it's the one where you face out. I bought one last year not knowing the pendulum squat existed. I sort of like the V-Squat, but it seems to put a ton of pressure on my knee caps. I don't have any knee issues, but I don't want to develop any either. I'm thinking of selling it and getting a pendulum instead, even though I'll take a bit of a loss on it.

Sad to see no mention of barbell hack squat (looking at the time stamp list before finishing the video). Bar behind you on floor, heels elevated, lift and don't lower all the way to the ground during reps. It's all quads, very light on lower back, and you don't need a rack.
