Thank you so much for this. One of my clients sent this to me. I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist. I have pain myself in my right shoulder. I’ve been doing stretches in the door way for years. Yet they were different from yours a little. I will be doing these the way you just showed us. Thank you again!!

Most time whe stretching in a doorway, we are taught to place both hands on each side of the door. The problem here is we are trying to stretch both chest muscles at the same time and since our shoulder blades cannot unlock and stack on top of each other, we cannot get enough range of motion. Take a look at my videos on standing up straight and see how to do it one armat a time to release each chest muscle. I think you may find a better result. Let me know how it is working for you.

My main issue is trying to bring my right arm behind my back. My right arm will not move beyound my waist whereas I can reach between my shoulderblade with my left arm.

WHat I have found working with clients with the same issue is, the sub-scapularis muscle which is underneath the shoudler blade. When try to lift your amr up your back, the shoulder balde must lift outward for the rotation that allows your hand to move up your spine. If that muscle is tight, the shoulder cannot release to allow the shoulder blade to lift out. First, palce a tennis ball in a sock and throw the ball over your shoulder as you hold onto the sock. Lean against the wall with the ball palces between your upper back and the wall. Gently lean back and search for any sore spots one spot at a time. Work all over the shoulder. When you find a sore spot, stay there, maintain the pressure as you breathe out, and allow the muscle to relax. Then look for the next spot. Once you have work all over your shoudler area then try the stretching below. Try lying face down on the bed. Place your hand on your back just before it is painful. Now breathe out and slowly allow the elbow of the affected arm to relax. If too painful you may want to place a pilllow under the elbow to help the brain feel safe about relaxing the elbow. As the movement improves you can remove the pillow so you can allow the elbow to lie flat. Only hold the stretch for 5 seconds as you breathe out and repeat up to 10 times. In the beginning you may be able to only do 3-4 reps. Sorry for the delay in repsonding to you. Let me know how it is working.

I have a tear on my shoulder and bicep I overswung 5 years ago,should I exercise to help the pain,,,I in a bad way can't lift my arm,I was told after mri scan ,,help tks

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Any time there is a tear, pushing the limits could make the tear worse. By stretching the way I show you in this video may take some of the pressure off and allow the tear to heal.
