I'm up to 25 seconds before my arms and grip give out. 5 minutes seems very, very far away. But, even at 25 seconds, 2 to 3 times a day, it is helping my kyphosis of the thoracic spine and my costochondritis and hips. Sucks to get older, but it beats the alternative.

I was really sceptical but this actually works. Three years 24/7 shoulder pain, interrupted sleep, and reduced range of motion - eliminated almost entirely within a week. Started off at only one second but after about ten days I’m up to about 90 seconds continuous dead hang. Sleeping through the night. Thank you Bob and Brad.

I'm a retired physio and am so thankful for B&B's hanging advice. It has helped me gain full range post shoulder surgery and cleared pain in my other shoulder. It has also helped my low back pain from spondylolisthesis. Great relief! I have referred many, many friends to Bob and Brad for various issues. Thank you so much for these great videos!!! You guys are wonderful.

I've been doing this for a while now based on a prior B&B video, it really works well! My exercise equipment is in my basement beside my TV room, so what I will often do is hang to stretch during commercials while watching a hockey game. Way better than sitting on the sofa for hours in a row!

Changed my life, had shoulder pain for a few years, tried every kind of dumbbell and barbell exercise for shoulders, nothing helped. I had probably 50% mobility in my shoulder and ton of pain, it was demoralizing. One day I stumbled upon a video talking about Dr. Kirsch's hanging method, I was skeptical but bought a pull up bar that day. It took a little while but just doing it a few mins a day started working and now the pain is GONE and I'm back to probably 95% normal.

I used to wake up every morning with aches and pains in my back I thought it was the mattress and I bought several but they didn't really help. I have done 5 minutes of mostly passive hanging everyday for five months. I wake up now with no back aches. Also it's great for posture and it's great for improving upper body and grip strength.

I bought the book. I've got a tendon that keeps sticking in the front. I've been doing it just like you show, with not my full weight, for about 2 weeks. I hang about 3 times about 40 seconds a day, at this 2 wk mark. I started with 30 seconds 2 times. I also have a poor grip so this is helping that too. Love your videos, thank you.

Thank you, guys, very much for your wisdom and advice. I'm 74 and last fall I was running in the woods down a 100% grade, slipped on some wet leaves, landed on my shoulder and dislocated it. The ER doctor put it back in place, and the ortho guy said there was no permanent damage, but it remained sore for months. I was unable to do my daily push-ups. A few days ago I mounted a multiple-position pull-up bar on the 6x6 post for my clothes line. I can now dead-hang without pain after only 3 sessions and while I won't rush things I plan to continue this dead-hanging regimen from here on. I would have never thought of this had I not seen your videos. Thanks again, I am indebted to both of you and grateful for your efforts to help others.

I started very slowly as your video suggests and couldn't believe how much better my low back and hips felt. Sadly, I developed severe carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand that has remained painful beyond imagination for months, now. I have an inversion table that I use as an alternative. It helps, but nowhere near as much as hanging did.

I have two frozen shoulders and a whiplash injury. It has taken me months of cane exercises and the doorway stretch to get to the point where I can reach overhead. Now I can reach up to grab the chin-up bar. I do a sort of plier with a broad stance to keep my balance. At this point I can only last about ten seconds, but finally I am at the point where I can start working on building up my endurance.

Thank you for sharing this! 🙂👍🏻 For the last 5 months I’ve had pain in my left shoulder and it got worse and worse, so I went to my doctor and she suspects it’s impingement, I immediately did some research and heard about this hanging exercise and got myself a chin up bar and started hanging, it has done wonders! I I have better mobility in my shoulder, it’s still painful and I’m waiting for a MRI scan. But, I’ve been doing the hanging, using ice 2 x a day and a few other exercises for only 3-4 weeks and I’m really impressed. My hope is to completely avoid the scan and tell my doctor that I changed it with the help from physiotherapists and chiropractors on KZbin 😃🤞🏻

I had severe mouse (right) shoulder pain and lack of mobility. Thru doing Bob & Brad recommended shoulder impingement exercises and especially once I got a Sportsroyals Power Tower Dip Station & Pull Up Bar and started doing dead hangs from the pull up bar (I started a 1 second (too painful to do any more than 1 second at the start) and now I am at my goal of a 120 second dead hang once a day) , my shoulder has improved incredibly. No pain and almost back to full range of motion. The Dip Station & Pull Up Bar can also be used for various other exercises . I highly recommend getting one.

When doing the hanging, is the length of time for the hang (duration) or the number of times in a given session (frequency) more effective? I now hang for 20 seconds 15 times with three sessions per day. Would the effectivness be improved by increasing the hang time but doing fewer repetitions? One of many excellent video programs which I depend on for all of my PT. Also, kudos to Bob for working through his health issue, an inspiration to everyone facing physical issues.

What Happens To Your Body When You Hang Every Day For 5 Minutes? (Note this comment is based merely from the video title.) Well that really depends on from what body part/parts you are hanging from AND how heavy you are... If you are heavy enough and choose the wrong body part, that body part can end up being removed by the hanging.... at least per the historical records it happened from time to time.

Great exercise for shoulder pain. Can't make it for 30 seconds at a time? Go for the time you can do and build up from there. No need to rush...it might take someone 3 months (or more) to get to 30 seconds. But several, say 10-second hangs, a day will be of benefit to you! Like a PT guy told me once when it came to lifting weights, lifting one pound, 100 times, will do more for you than lifting 100 lbs. one time.
