For those mentioning this isn’t any good for theft protection it’s not really meant for that. It’s more meant to keep on your nightstand if you want to keep something that you can get too quickly, but at the same time, keep it safe from children getting to a firearm. That is really all.

Sir, that’s a very fair point. It’s really not designed as a safe. It’s designed to have quick access while securing it in a moderate fashion from those who should not have access. It’s not a bad design. I just think it would have so much value if it were in metal versus plastic. Thank you for sharing your perspective. I do appreciate it. If you haven’t already, I hope you will subscribe to the channel.

It's the same trade off as having a polymer frame vs metal frame. If cost or weight isn't a factor, sure, make everything metal. I appreciate the affordability and how light this. I only use it as a retention safety device. If someone is in my home with the intention to steal it, at least they're not getting fast access to a loaded weapon.

I put about 40,000 rounds through a clock 19. So as far as durability of that polymer frame. I’ve also put about 30,000 rounds through a Gen 1 M&P. I own steel frame, pistols and revolvers, and certainly appreciate them. However, there’s no doubt in my mind that a high-quality polymer frame pistol will have the same durability overtime. Regarding the Stopbox. I agree with you that using it for a retention device in a short term situation works OK. I prefer spending a few more bucks and getting a steel version of this type of handgun/retention device. Again, thank you for commenting and sharing your perspective. I certainly appreciate it!

True. But with only six possible combinations, this isn’t really any more secure than a good retention holster.

To everyone who is commenting saying it’s junk for being plastic, it isn’t intended to store the firearm in. This is honestly just a way to have your daily carry on bedside table without your kids getting into it. So if you step into the shower or go to sleep it is secure and out of little hands. If you plan to store your firearm in there when you leave the house then just use a safe…. Alternatively, your workplace isn’t firearm friendly (but not illegal to conceal carry at and you are willing to break a rule)… you want it secured within reach. This would easily fit in a larger purse or briefcase and would probably stop someone long enough if you to step to the bathroom and they decide to swipe something from your bag. But realistically your bag should be with you at all times because this thing isn’t really keeping someone out if you leave it alone.

Sir, thank you for commenting. I understand what you’re saying and you make a great point. At the same time there are metal saves that are just as quick to open and would likely do a much better job in the event, the owner forgot they had left the stock box next to their bed when they walked out the door. I agree with you that if the operator is mindful about the function of this product, it can add value. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment I hope you will subscribe and share the channel with friends and family.

@@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC Other safes have other weaknesses like electronic locking mechanisms. I believe the main purpose of the design is to be "mechanical" in nature. There is nothing to inherently "fail" because there are no electronics involved.

Stopbox doesn’t advertise it as a safe. It has a specific purpose. It’s a box to store your firearm to keep out of reach of children and storage at night. One of their videos tells customers it’s not designed to be a safe. My wife and I have Stopboxes to store our firearms when we’re entertaining or the nieces and nephews are visiting. We have a “you need four people to carry” safe to lock up our firearms when we’re away from the house. Thank you for the review.

It's not an anti theft device. It's a child protection device. And it's much better at that then something with batteries. My daughter is quiet and sneaky and has already figured out my phone and tablet passwords. She doesn't have the strength open the stopbox, even if she could figure out the exact pressure code I have for each finger. And I don't have to worry about batteries dying or electronics failing.

I feel like the dude in the video (and many of the people who have commented) simply doesn't understand the MAIN purpose of this box. It's NOT meant to be a "safe" to protect your firearms from thieves, it's simply to give you instant access to your firearm if needed, while at the same time preventing children from having access to your loaded firearm. This is an EXCELLENT alternative to putting a lock on your firearm or shoving it in the top of your closet, both which would take too much time to get to in an emergency. This is the safe alternative to having your loaded firearm on your nightstand.

This is the common refrain when anyone criticizes it, but here’s the thing: StopBox claims that it’s a “retention device” intended to serve as “a bridge between your holster and your safe,” all the while demonstrating it in use as a bedside storage solution in exactly the same manner that a handgun safe or lock box is used, and their most recent Facebook ad even refers to it as “The fastest gun safe you’ll ever own.” You can’t have it both ways. They claim that it’s for temporary storage of a gun in use and in the owner’s presence (like transportation to a range). For that purpose, 81 combinations may be adequate, but it’s not sufficient to ensure that a child can’t access it if left unattended for long periods, which is exactly the situation for most bedside defense guns. The majority of gun owners don’t carry, and even fewer routinely visit a range or otherwise take their guns anywhere. Most bedside defense guns remain wherever they’re stored, undisturbed for long periods. In that context, a gun stored in a StopBox atop or inside a bedroom nightstand is vulnerable to trial by error access by a curious child. It only takes a few minutes to try all 81 combinations. StopBox knows that people are buying and using their product as a safe, and their ads are encouraging it. So, yes, in that light, it’s more than fair to critique it as a safe.

This actually fits my use case well. I need something light weight I can throw in a backpack if needed and I also need something I can throw my EDC in when I get home so I am not wrestling with the kids on the floor with a firearm on me. I am not using it as a safe or long term storage. Just something light to keep little hands off of my firearm.

My goodness, what kind of kids are we talking about? There are 81 different combination possibilities, what kid would work that hard to get into that? Plus, there is a pressure element involved, it takes pressure and knowing the correct combination. I've raised 4 children and they all knew at a very young age not to mess with stuff that wasn't theirs, and certainly wouldn't sit and fight to open something that wasn't theirs @@JohnSmith09123

As many have said, it’s definitely not for theft prevention, as a thief would just take the box and cut it open later. I’ll use it for storing a firearm when people are over, but I find it too awkward to trust for emergencies. I find myself wanting the make the combination simpler to be able to operate it easily, and that defeats the purpose.

A lot of people are missing the point of this product. This is not for long term firearm storage. If you aren’t home your firearm shouldn’t be in this case it should be with you. This product is designed to give you somewhere to keep your firearm when you are home so your kid or a guest can’t get your firearm while you’re in the shower or working in the yard. This is for your EDC firearm. Not your firearm collection

Thanks for the video. As others have mentioned, a standing safe and secure box have different purposes. Personally there are places I'd like to carry up to that I would need to be disarmed and need to leave my bag off of my body for a time. The Stopbox MIGHT answer that problem, but it depends how quickly a thief can break into it compared to a common cable lock. It just needs to prevent immediate access, and if it can make them give up and toss it in a ditch even better

Sir, thank you for watching and commenting. I cannot tell you what the airlines or the TSA would require. This I understand it, though they require the firearm to be unloaded in a locked container within your carry-on baggage. You also need to follow whatever the airline requests in regards to notification that you are traveling with a firearm. I recommend using the term firearm versus gun because, sometimes the word Gun scares the heck out of people. Firearm seems to be more politically correct these days. You would need to make sure that this particular product has a lot on it. You can buy plenty of saves that have either a combination lock already on them or can be locked with an external lock. I strongly recommend reaching out directly to the airline you plan to travel with chat with them about requirements. Also pull up all requirements stated by the TSA and airlines on their website. Print a copy of these so that when you go and clear the firearm and someone challenges you, you can show them what their actual regulation state. finally be very careful about the state that you were flying into and the airport. There have been multiple stories of people flying into New York City or New Jersey and not knowing that they cannot legally have a firearm in that state without a special ID card. Again, I am not a lawyer nor can I give you legal advice I can only say you need to be extremely careful and well aware of what to expect not only leaving from your destination, but traveling to wherever it is you’re going. I hope this helps. Please consider subscribing to the channel and sharing it with friends and family if you enjoy our content.

If you carrying the stop box in your vehicle they do a sell a cable for it, as a separate accessory. The boxes are expensive enough, but the cable is an additional $25 apiece. Now because California is making it a requirement to either have you guns locked up in a CA DOJ approved safe, or Lock Box. I have two of these stop boxes and the Ward. I have reached out to Stop Box to find out if their products are in fact CA DOJ Approved. I have reached out twice now and got no response. So basically, once the law is passed these boxes are worthless in California unless the company gets them CA DOJ Approved. I am now regretting that I ordered these boxes. I really like the idea of no electronics but!

Because anyone above the age of around 4, or 4 and 1/2 can still get into this by using one hand to push and hold the side button down, and then just push down any random two buttons on the top, until they guess the right combo until they get it open, best bet if you are going to use this would be to carry the mag, and round you keep in the chamber on you, and leave the firearm stored in this thing

A handgun safe made out of plastic, I can't understand their thought process. Thieves are are doing smash and grabs from cars and the car windows are stronger that the Stopbox Pro plastic. I think the failure point would be the plastic hinges. When I travel I use a Bulldog Vault. Its all metal, you can tether it to a solid object. It is key operated, quick access is not a priority with me because I only use this when I have to leave my firearm in the room, which is rare. It comes with a steel cable for travel and metal sleeve bracket for permanent mounting, which you can unlock and pull the gun vault out. Additional sleeve brackets are extra so you can move the box to different places. Its not quick but I don't have any kids and I only use this when I travel.

The problem with this product is that StopBox excuses its deficient security by claiming that it’s a retention device, but their marketing implicitly and explicitly contradicts that position. Their videos show it in use in exactly the same manner that a bedside handgun safe is used, and their most recent Facebook ad refers to it as “The fastest gun safe you’ll ever own.” You can’t have it both ways. The simple truth is that the market for a retention device to serve as a “bridge between your holster and your safe” is comparatively small, because the majority of gun owners don’t carry, and even fewer routinely visit a range for training or otherwise take their guns anywhere. Thus, the financial motivation to market it as a safe is clear. Unfortunately, their mixed messaging is confusing people into believing that it’s a viable alternative to a safe or that it’s suitable for securing a firearm against unauthorized access by children. In that context, 81 combinations is a joke. The StopBox should never be trusted to store a loaded gun that may be left unattended for hours at a time (like most bedside home defense pistols); an older child could easily open it within a few minutes by trial and error.

I am no mathematician, but I think there are multiple numbers or combinations associated with this. Such as pressing the same button a couple of times, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I think the intent of this is sort of a bridge between being concealed on your person, and Putting it into a steel safe. Sort of something you could have access to if there’s a bump in the night. Personally, it’s not enough for me, but I think it could feel a certain very specific role. I certainly appreciate you taking the time to comment. Whenever I review products that I have purchased, I always give my honest and direct feedback. Some people may disagree and I respect your opinion. At the same time I think it’s important for consumers to get honest direct feedback about products they’re considering purchasing.

@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC I also think that you compared a quick access safe to a giat metal safe and it does bricker make sense to compare the 2. I also respect what you said....but compare apples to apples and then it sounds much better...otherwise when you compare 2 different things with similar facts it's just like if I say rather have a Ferrari than a subaru

@@aneilsen sir, thank you for your clarification. I don’t think I was comparing apples and oranges. I think there are much better less expensive alternatives that provide you a hard metal device that gives you pretty much close to instant access. Obviously this is a decision for each individual Gun owner, but frankly, I was not impressed with the stop box. I also was able to destroy mine within about 30 seconds using a screwdriver. I would imagine a person who does not, have access could do the same and that could put the owner and the family in a very dangerous position. Again, operator needs to make the best decision for them. I can see how would be an intermediate device, but I think if you’re going with an intermediate device, why not go all the way and actually do something that would more likely prevent unauthorized access.

@@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC Absolutely correct. Companies like American Security, FAS1, Fort Knox, Steelhead, V-Line, and Viking have offered far superior, actually secure products featuring heavy gauge steel and Simplex locks for years. There’s no need to compromise safety and security for fast access, and claiming that the StopBox is a retention device is analogous to calling a bong a water pipe. They’re marketing it as a safe, and they know perfectly well that people are buying and using it as a safe.
