Stopping Ruby's Aggressive Behavior Towards Guests

Ruby is a one-year-old mixed breed dog who lives in Mar Vista, California. She was found only a few days old along with a few other pups from her litter on the beach in American Samoa with her umbilical cord still attached. Her guardians hand fed the pups trying to save them but only Ruby survived. Her family set up a dog behavior training session with me to get her to stop acting aggressive towards strangers and small kids.

Ruby's situation is pretty much my dog's. She is not good with little kids and if someone gets too close to her owners she will growl and snap. I heard the umbilical method could help, but I'll be trying this first.

There's a number of things I would do differently. Clearly this dog isn't THAT bad. But, regardless, I wouldn't let the dog take the treat from the person's hand, because an extremely aggressive dog will simply ignore the treat and bite the person. Even if they don't ignore the treat, it's possible that the person's hand jerks or they make some quick movement, causing the dog to react. Instead, I'd have them throw the treat on the ground.

so when my guests come in my house basically they're gonna have to go through an entire ritual and make sure they follow all my rules very strictly so my dog will be able to accept them in her territory... are you sane, man? what about my clients? I have a home clinic or my children's guests... this is a horrible video.

Wrap the lead round your wrist..... to make it tighter. I've seen two dog trainers for my dog and not one of them told me to wrap the lead round my wrist, I think that's bad thing to start off with

Oh if only it were this easy! My dog would be muzzled so this wouldn’t work but great for smaller dogs maybe
