I use the Pentel erasers almost exclusively. I was hoping the Meijer whites would be comparable. But the Pentels are already pretty cheap. Good work on another thorough review.

Hi MAMO - I was disappointed in the performance of the Meijer white erasers. A 4-pack for 79 cents sounds good, but they are not great erasers. Pentel are consistently excellent - even the cap style are very good, and they are a good value for the price. Thanks!

Hi Cafe Normal - those Pen+Gear pencils are good pencils for the price. Glad you like them!

All Pencils are good to Me. Not all cheap and Brand Name Store Pencils are bad. I found out that even some cheap Pencils can outperform some of the more expensive ones. Walmart's Pen + Gear perform way better than their previous Casemate Pencils. Also look for the Staedtler HB Pencils there and Dollar Tree now carries the Dixon HB Pencil as well.
@AlwaysAnalog3 жыл бұрын
I like the Pen+Gear pencils, especially the ones made in India. I have also tried the Staedtler HB and Dixon HB from Dollar Tree. All pencils work as intended - they write. Some are smoother than others, some erase better, etc., but where a pen may fail to write, a sharpened pencil will work. Thanks!

The Bic Evolution and assorted resin pencils beg to disagree. There is 💯% a quality baseline that you can't go below.

Thanks for the very comprehensive video! I think I will just stay with the Pen + Gear pencils and not bother to hunt down the others. One question…what do you mean when you call a pencil waxy? I cannot imagine a pencil being both scratchy and waxy at the same time - I always associate waxiness with being hard and smooth.
@AlwaysAnalog3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rowan - good to hear from you! Yes, stick with the Pen+Gear and forget the others. They are much like the drugstore branded pencils you reviewed. It wouldn't surprise me if they were all sources from some of the same manufacturers. I think our definitions of "waxy" are the same. Some of the "waxiest" pencils I've tried are those extruded plastic/fake wood, "break resistant" pencils like the Bic Evolution. Very hard, light impression yet smooth on the paper. I couple of times, I've found some inexpensive pencils that are waxy and scratchy, but not simultaneously. I think it's the way the core material is mixed and manufactured, where it will write smoothly for a few lines and then start to scratch a little. I guess it sounds confusing when I say it in the video, so I'll try to remember to be more clear. Thanks!
@DinnerForkTongue Жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysAnalog A few years later, the best definition I can give is "writing with a coloured pencil in grey". It'll slide, but only with a certain minimal stroke speed, otherwise it'll grip the paper.

What does analog mean?
@AlwaysAnalog3 жыл бұрын
There are a few meanings of analog depending on how it's used. In my case, it is those things which do not require digital technology to perform, like a pencil or a typewriter. Thanks!

I bought Up and Up pens one time and they were dreadful, hardly wrote at all. Also bought Pen and G black white board markers and those are awful too, too bleedy and the ink is really hard and messy to erase. Not buying either brand ever again.

HI S V - I have found that the store brand supplies that perform the best are the wood pencils. I also have not had good luck with pens, erasers and other things. Thanks!

Too bad about the rainbow eraser because I really want one now. I'd pick the Meijer due to the good attached eraser of this list but ultimately I'd buy one of the USA made ones because 12 cents per pencil is still not bankrupting me.
