​@@rinnepy SB, CK, and BB were overpowered, yes, but they have interactions. PA (and Dark Willow and Muerta)'s entire gameplan was to be completely uninteractive. DW & Muerta's ability to be uninteractive paled in comparison to how PA was. When PA got off the ground, you simply couldn't click her. The fade delay meant she could straight kill someone before she unfaded, then fade again and repeat.

I feel like the nature of PA is that she was powerful around people who are bad at the game; evasion is deadly if you don't build MKB, her blink was a perfect gap closer if you didn't build BKB (which isn't gonna be so common at lower levels) and if you don't know how to manage her, the crits will absolutely body you. I remember starting the game, and PA being an unholy terror. Thus, buffs and nerfs are in an awkward position. How do you make her viable at high tier play, without making her oppressive at low tier play?

38:10 - the stifling dagger nerf was because of the mid-support cheese that someone discovered. You could pick another mid and set PA at 1200 range, outside of EXP range, and stifling dagger the enemy mid over and over until they got bullied out. That was 100% the reason the range was scaled, to make it so you couldn't use this cheese.

I think her ultimate should be reworked into something more niche. For example make her crits ignore armor Or make her crits more probable when the target is low hp. Or instead of being a crit it could become a massive bleed Or give her Q a longer cooldown on heroes that leaves a mark that garantees a crit on that one target. Its just the pure simplicity of her ultimate what keeps her down.

That's how the RNG works in the game for almost everything, the crit chance starts out well under the listed % until you get 3-4 hits, and with every miss it gets higher and higher until it finally triggers and resets. It's mainly to prevent people from getting lucky from back-to-back crits as often, but it can be cheesed in its own right by stacking non-triggers on creeps like you said.

It's still pseudo-random but you can't just 'crit' now, your 'crits' give you a specific buff which guarantees that your next attack is the true crit so it is mechanically impossible to have consecutive crits now

Not even bro PAs kit itself is the problem Not unless they make her intentionally broke she will remain bad (at least for TI level play) The only reason PA became strong recently is because people realized how strong PA aghs was For a long time I have bought that item as a second item or 3rd and people would always be mad at me for buying aghs on PA But as soon as pros noticed how good the aghs was it became Meta It was a dispel in a low cool down But most importantly is it gave you a 3 second window where you can attack someone without getting seen even with detection What you would do is that you blur then wait for the cool down The you jump at a support then as soon as the blur fades you blur again since aghs removed blur cast point making it so you essentially double the fade time of blur That small window of time is usually enough to kill of one support in the enemy team Then after you kill the support you can use blur again as a defensive tool since supports are usually far back The distance supports has from their carries are usually just enough for the radius of blur to not fade making it so that PA was basically just an enigma and your supports couldn't even have done anything meaning you didn't need to use your BKB to pick off supports And the carries couldn't punish PA for it

The reason pa was popular in 7.³³ and onward was mostly a case that the map was new gold farming to scale was not perfected or even close so going zug zug riki pa alarm and murdering people on the map worked better than farming. Part of it was riki pa having been buffed and feeling strong but before people figured how greedy they could get away and what item timings to hit while farming and how to farm rushing with kill heroes was the meta, and the rest was trying to survive them, i.e. dawn breaker meta with a global save. It's like an rts' build order if it's not tight it dies to a rush and doesn't macro fast enough to scale

The thing about a lot of these heroes is that while underperforming at the top level, they DESTROY in pub games. When an enemy team isn't highly skilled and organized, having a hero that can teleport onto them and crit for massive amounts of damage is nearly impossible to deal with, especially if she BKB's or another hero stuns first. It's basically a guaranteed kill unless you have a good escape move. IIRC we used to build her with Sang and Yasha -> Deso -> Butterfly and she was beyond annoying to deal with, essentially guaranteeing a kill every time she went in. Sure, an enemy could go MKB to try to deal with it, but that was 5000 gold out of their pocket.

Imho chance based skills should have some baseline consistency, especially if it’s an ultimate. Maybe they could’ve nerfed the numbers and instead provide a bonus true damage in case of a missed crit, or they could have two crits - one big with low chance and one smaller with bigger chance - and in case they both triggered, the hit will only perform the big crit

The most successful youtube strat I've ever copied and had worked was divine rapier first on PA. It's actually insane how good it was, it's an incredible damage spike that nearly no hero can deal with and it helps snowball games so fast that you can solo carry them. I'm not convinced it would ever work in pro play, ever, but it was an insane strat based loosely around the same concept of buying divine first on medusa, a character that (at the same) had suddenly become virtually indestructible.

Currently though, it's not even worth picking her for her break because Viper exists. Its weird that with her kit being full of incredible single target damage, she should be a mid game terror, killing heroes all over the map and using that momentum to carry through the late game. Instead it seems like dagger and blur are used as mediocre farming tools to turn her into an unreliable late game carry where her crits either instantly win the fight or lose it. Instead of this uninteractable playstyle I'd say they they should revert her blur and ulti, and give her something to push her early/mid ganking power. Maybe if blur gave some good movespeed while she's off the minimap for faster roaming and she got a reward for chasing kills such as a permanent attack speed buff which if she got into late game, would mean she attacks fast enough that the likelihood of her critting before dying is higher. Would really encourage that unique and fun style that Phoenix had, and instead off thinking "oh PA is off the map, she must be farming" you're thinking "oh god PA is off the map, is she about to jump me?" Another idea that could giving the ult an active ability that lets her guarantee one crit on a 30-40s cool down so she can contribute at least one kill on a valuable target, but can't just hide and wait for the buff before jumping in for the entire fight.

29:39 is that meant to say 75+Scaling AD vice 60+scaling AD? That people thought PA was unfun to play against and was nerfed into the irrelevance again, but Silencer was allowed to exist is kind of crazy to me. Silencer was the main reason I had some friends just quit playing all together due to how often he was played and how it was to play against him during ?2016-2017? haven't played in years so no clue how he is now, but at the time he had an aura that silenced enemies if they cast a spell near him, and an ability that did a relatively good amount of hp/mp damage unless you cast a spell, so you always were oom and being chipped to death in lanning phase unless you had a cheap spell to cast. Would have been more interesting to have not rolled out a balance patch 1 week prior to the international, I really think no game should do something like that without giving teams a 1 month notice so they can practice different metas/builds for the event. Really seems like Valve was setting teams up for failure with that last minute switch. I think this way for the international specifically due to the size of the prize pool, smaller events are usually not going to be nearly as important either for teams or the game itself in terms of popularity.

Her dagger range was nerfed because in 7.0 was because she started seeing play as a position 4 player that just camped the midlane and non-stop daggered the enemy mid securing a win with no contest 1200 dagger range from minute 1 every 6 seconds while not leeching xp from her own midlane was incredibly obnoxious and very effective

This hero has a special place to my heart ever since i play dota when im in highschool, knowin this game from my bestfriend, play it together and learn it. I miss so much that day when she become powerful, even without spesific item, but for now, she drownin again cz of that aghs nerf (blur nerf is slightly ok to me since i play her really carefully)

quite frankly she'd probably be a helluva lot better if she _was_ like a league champ, because then she'd drop the passive evasion in return for a reliable burst combo, or swap it for an active 100% evasion buff that _doesn't_ get turned off by a single item + likely just have far better baseline tankiness in general also an actual ult. coup would not survive five seconds on a league champ's kit, not beyond being a passive component of another ability that just gave bonus crit damage for free. possibly as an innate ability that's automatically skilled at level 1 and scales automatically with levels. even if she remained a melee rightclicker, the sorta shit league gives its melee rightclickers is stuff like yi's _massive_ attack and move speed boost + slow immunity that can last as long as he keeps getting kills, tryndamere's troll ult that can be cast through _any_ cc, olaf just becoming fully immune to any and all cc as long as he keeps hitting things _on top of_ getting a significant amount of attack damage, fiora obliterating a single enemy champ by playing ring-around-the-rosie, warwick flinging himself across the entire screen to dismember whoever he lands on, and yone just outright having a teamfight initiation ult on the level of ghost ship that also blinks him directly on top of the backline i have no idea what kinda ult you could give pa to make her work in league and still have it fit her, but i have full confidence that you could then port this theoretical league pa back into dota and she'd be _significantly_ better for it

I disagree the lifesteal on W was a massive buff, you can play aggressively while being able to survive early fights. Also made her able a bit more tanky. Which is why they removed it because literally a nice massive buff that made her a bit stronger.

Valve always has to look between the balance of heroes between pub games and pro games - it's not an issue if a hero is bad in pub games but op in pro games - example IO - the changes are done in such a manner yo try yo find a balance in between the two. But then having a hero that is relatively balanced and used in pub games - with high winrate, but overlooked in pro games, it's quite hard to buff that hero more just for it to be picked a few times in a pro tournament as those changes can have a much bigger impact on pub game

Because we live in a world of instant gratification. LoL matches are short-term and attainable satisfaction because of simplified mechanics, whereas DotA brings out substantial satisfaction the longer you play and learn. Of course, new players would rather pick the easier and simple MOBA game and that is LoL. PLUS. It is way more popular and has better marketing than the piece of sh*t company Valve. Valve makes great games (CSGO, TF2, DotA), but they seriously need to step up their marketing and putting their game out there.

PA is usually such a terrible hero because relying on RNG to be useful is a design choice that always leads to frustration. She either lands the crits and her enemy gets bursted without counterplay or she doesn't get them and she's useless. Everytime she's picked someone's going to get angry at a variable that's completely beyond the players' control and that's just not a fun gameplay experience.

It would be really helpful if you also showed the champions presence in the championships because I don't really know how high those numbers are because I don't know how many games there were. Like if the champ got banned once and picked once in 10 games then the champ had 20% presence.

Until the latest TI, we've had around 160 games per tournament. However, due to the structure of the tournament, it's not as relevant - you have a marathon round robin group stage whose meta is often distinct from the main stage double elimination bracket. Most meta heroes will hover around the same contest rate - somewhere around 70%. Most off meta heroes will have wild variation in their pick rates depending on how much they were picked by a successful team - MVP Phoenix's TI6 run shows this. Since the meta almost never solidifies as much as it does in League, where optimization excludes far more heroes from viability, the differences in pick/ban rates are less useful as a statistic. In short, Dota is too chaotic to gather much info from overall statistics.

Effectively imposing an item tax on the opponent's carries is not a bad thing, the main issue is with how good MKB is outside of the true strike property.
