That last little bit you added to this video about forgetting the boards is exactly why most of us are here. You show us that you are indeed like the rest of us. Human. Also take a look at Simpson strong ties way of fastening your railing posts. My deck railing turned out really well using this method.

Besides getting to watch a master craftsman do woodwork, I can now try some of your cooking menus! I'm already going to try your tacos. Thanks as always for sharing your videos! Your deck is going to be amazing Woodness! It took us 3 1/2 years to finish our cabin because we had to travel to get there like you are doing. We had times when we were so tired and frustrated, but trust me. It was soooo worth it once completed!!! ❤ You’ll get there.

Great stuff. I'm a bit of a semi professional amateur myself. Currently building a pole barn home in my "spare time". After long days busting my knuckles and not making much progress its nice to kick back and watch someone else fumble around for a change. You're creating a great retreat. It'll be so rewarding for years to come. Keep praising the Lord and getting after it. Its inspiring.

When it comes to deck board spacing, they are treated which means they have a ton of moisture from the "treatment" of making them weather and pest resistant. Over the next 3 months, depending on direct sunlight, they will dry and shrink. So for deck board spacing I use a few pipe clamps to press them as tight as possible and then scew them down. Then after 2 or 3 months in the sun or even in the case of a deck with a roof, after this time the boards will have just enough gap to allow water out but small enough to not let mosquitoes in like for a screened in porch. If you want a bigger gap just use a screw as a spacer and unscrew to pull the spacing screw out and you will have a bigger gap.

I don't mean to sound overly picky but the tread heights really should be all the same. Folks will be very prone to tripping or falling using them if they''re not. That's the reason inspectors are so critical of it. I know you don't need to worry about inspections but you should consider making them the same. It really coming along and another great video!

The secret to working in hot sticky weather is to bring a few extra t-shirts. Then you aren't stuck walking around with a sweat saturated t-shirt the whole day. Swap out your shirt 1/2 way through the day. Put another fresh t-shirt on when you're ready to head home. A towel to wipe off the body sweat in between changes is helpful too. It's just more laundry.
