Oh boy, the 'Lord's Caliber' vs the 'Pansy 9mm' vs the '.40 is just as good right' crowds. I absolutely despise that stuff. My dad is one of those Thou shalt only carry a .45! Because he was a Marine in Nam and that is what he carried as his back up gun. I don't think like that. I've seen first hand what bullets of all different calibers will do. Comes down to skill. My ex carries a .380. I carry a .40, my son carries 9mm. Anyone that goes on and on about that garbage is usually one of those people that spend thousands on a gun, have almost no skill and think the bullet power will save them if needed. I've seen a ton of bullet wounds working in a trauma hospital in Florida. They all suck and they all do damage. Skill beats Caliber every time.

There is a video garand thumb did where he tested multiple rounds from both the.45 and 9mm against ballistic torsos, very little difference if anything the faster 9mm did more damage and for some reason I thought that would be the end of the theoretical discussions… I was wrong

European here just reading this and thinking these all people are totally crazy just carrying whatever guns around and passionatly arguing with each other about if they have the right kind of gun😅 Oh man, am I lucky to live in a place where there is zero need to carry a gun when in the woods hiking or in any other situation, hunting excluded.

Carry what ever you wish. For CCW - I carry a .380 - it's small - works well and is light. (bad back etc) But for back woods travel. I carry a 38 special / .357 revolver. Why? simple / light weight and works well. Then I do not have to worry about bears around here. Only been 1 sighting of a bear in the last 60 years. But if you want to carry a .22 be my guest. My favorite revolver / rifle combo is the .44 mag. I have a nice revolver in .44 and a Ruger .44 carbine. (the old no longer made one). One round for both weapons. Again each to their own. Take care - Be safe

We are part of earth, it is energetic. Atoms 🤣 we are just jellyfish running on electricity in a way, just with strong bones. Take away our bones and blob. Lol but encompassed in our shell we still somehow produce our own electrical currents thats why we need iron and magnesium etc different metals that are good conductors of electricity. Check out how to ground yourself.👍🤗

I have amassed quite a collection of camping stoves over the years. I kept going back to my old tried and true, two burner, Coleman Stove that uses the liquid fuel with pump up and I bought the adapter to use propane on it as well, which I prefer. Keep a spare generator for your stove and lanterns it seems they only go bad when in use. Then it's back to a wood fire for cooking. If you're out camping you must have a fire going anyway because heck what is camping without a fire to enjoy. The Coleman Stove is not for back packing adventures but a dream to use for tailgating. My wife and I each carry a firearm for personal protection, enough said about that. One time my Sweety Pie and I headed out in the truck for a remote trout fishing adventure. We got to the spot and the heavens opened up and down came the rain, so we waited in the cab of the truck for a while watching the trout stream turn muddy, and then we decided to forget about fishing and held hands and talked about world politics for a while. It was my most memorable fishing trip ever!!!!! I really like the V fire box.

I'm a 68 year old man who grew up out in the country in Colorado. When I was 13 my grandfather gave me a single shot .22 rifle. He taught me to shoot and everything was about safety. When the day came when he told me I could start shooting on my own, he gave me the best piece of advice I've received to this day. He said, "Don't do anything stupid". I miss him.

How about with a charging grizzly......that is the only reason one would need a pistol, and it better be a 44 magnum! Luke, as always a great video! I agree with you on the useless caliber wars. My wife and daughter do more damage in less time with a .22 than my friends with their "magnums". Besides, whether in the outdoors or in the city, the key is situational awareness. Thanks for all the great videos. You are changing my outlook on "how" to camp.

I agree with you Luke 100% on the Caliber Wars....and as far as the stove, spot on as to the price vs. features. I would like at least to see that stove have the locking tab for the fuel cart like my el cheapo stoves have. I also would like the stove to handle small cups by having a pot support across the entire burner ( as long as the material can stand the heat ). Good video as usual and glad your back is feeling much better 😀

“The gun you have is more useful than the one you don’t.” A good .380 with copper polymer rounds is about as much weight as I will carry on a backpacking trip. Statistically, we are safer in the woods than we are in the “civilized” world. I would rather carry an extra liter of water than heavier ammunition.

This was an awesome video and it helped to make my coffee more enjoyable. You brought up a great point about overland camping. No one needs $80,000 or more to enjoy camping. I've camped in the Virginia mountains in a VW Beetle using the car cover for shelter and a hammock. I fished trout for dinner and breakfast cooked over a campfire. It was so much fun. As far as gun caliber I carried a small caliber Ruger. Not once did I have to take it out of my chest pack or holster to defend myself. Using common sense and experience got me out of tricky situations...this is worldwide backpacking treks in my military and civilian experiences. That cell phone booster rig looks like a worthy investment for my van as I travel extensively around the U.S. Thanks again, Luke, for what you give us in your videos from entertainment to sound advice. Oh, that Four Winds stove is not worth $150! I bought a $30 stove at a Korean market in San Diego with a case of fuel a year ago and it works like a proverbial charm...better than my Coleman stove I used as a back up.

Overlanding channels seem to focus more on the “clout” than anything. I try to do a mix of “off-roading, site seeing, and cooking. And maybe some knowledgeable insight along the way. Love the channel. If you ever get out to Montana hit me up, love to take out on some epic routes!

So glad you haven't given up camping in your truck or a tent or a tarp because you have a trailer and Susie's van. Those just are not camping to me... I am loving this overnight truck camp.

I was a combat medic and served on three combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan and caliber doesn’t matter, in the right hands any caliber can wound and/or kill your opponent. I was also a paramedic for the city of Chicago and there too caliber didn’t matter. A bullet does one thing very well, damage whatever it hits. Learn your weapon, fire only when you have to, and remember there is no reset button in life. Once you have pulled the trigger your life will never be the same as it was before. Yes I carry but I have seen too much death and pulled too many wounded to take another life unless I absolutely have no other option. Stay safe out there, Luke you’re awesome as always.

Bub, I feel your pain. Literally. I have chronic lower back pain, severe at times. It sucks. I fell on my knee in late June. Two weeks ago, I was "training" after that injury and COVID, by climbing some hills at a local park and descended a STEEP hill and now I have water on that same knee. UGH. Haven't been able to get out in the woods for two weeks now.

I like your short camp videos. It doesn't have to be a week long affair. Throw some basic gear on the pickup or the van. KISS. Head to a park or forest. Getting a free weekend was difficult. It dawned on me that being self employed, I could make my own schedule. Sunday afternoon for a day or two is ideal. Most campgrounds are deserted. Also a drizzy night works. Just made sure my old dome tent was seam sealed and retreated with water repellent. Some of the most peaceful nights ever.

Totally agree. I served for over 20 years in the USN. My primary carry is a .45acp. That is what I qualified on. My backup is .380acp, just because I like it and hit at what I aim.

Nice rain. Love it. I'm in the market for a signal booster, so I'll keep track of your input about it. The stove, I agree with you, too expensive. One the blue tent, I'd pass on it. I hate sags. Strong and rigid is what I prefer. Loving my Snugpak Cave tent. It has been set up in my backyard all summer. Great tent. On your caliber discussion, I have always been in the mind frame, choose a caliber that is comfortable for you to handle AND train with. 9mm isn't my fave, but that is my EDC caliber. For the woods, I tend to lean more for larger calibers that can put the hurts on a bear, brown or black. 10mm, 41 Rem Mag are my general "woods" calibers for me. Till next video, take care!!

Sometimes a piece of gear does it's job so well you forget it's there, like the table. From the looks of it at the end you got some use out of it but forgot to talk about it. Sounds like a good thing to me.
