Yes, I did. I think though, I read in new book The Horse God Built: "It's not that I don't love Secretariat, I do, it's just that I'm in AWE of him, his power, speed, his beauty." Also reason Riva was in her heart was her father, when R won KD she called hospital and nurse told him (was watching) and tears in his eyes. Riva initially saved Meadow financially.

I don't think he's shanking Storm Cat, he's tugging the chain to keep his attention and keep him from getting any ideas. Given his rep of being a mean S.O.B., they are being cautious. They warn the guy of him kicking in the video, and he's trying to gnaw on his handler--he's not a lamb.

@kwmred I work with these horses DAILY here in Los Angeles. Having the stud chain over his nose is HOW they handle TB stallions, anywhere u go. He is walking him fine, close to his shoulder & when he starts to get nippy or won't stand still, he is pushing his face away & checking him w/ the stud chain letting him know it's not ok, & gets him refocused 2 stand still. They do not hire people at these farms unless they are comfortable with TB's, even the mares.

Explain just how the chain controls the horse. Is it some psycholgical bluff to make him think the Groom is more powerful than him or what? Fascinating stuff about all these different kinds of tack to manage horses.
@ajgensel9359
@ajgensel9359 10 жыл бұрын
The chain works in two way, first by tightening and second by offering pressure over a smaller surface area. If the horse resists or if a handler is deliberately trying to get a horses attention the chain slides through the rings of the halter, constricting and applying tension where the lays. When the horse stops pulling then the tension is released. If you watch, you can see that the chain is wrapped once around the noseband of the halter before being attached to the far ring. This is to limit the chains ability to constrict and most people will employ chains this way.

The groom clearly doesn't understand him well if he's constantly yanking on the stud chain for no reason. The horse was looking around out of curiosity. The horse wasn't acting out, wasn't trying fight the lead, or anything else. he was just looking around being a good horse who shows good manners as the handler wasn't understanding him at all. it's not hard to see a horse at peace just looking about.

His race record and bloodline has nothing to do with how the stallion behaves. Stallions are stallions. One has to know how to handle them period. Each one has his own personality regardless of pedigree and training. You learn the horse/stallion and handle them accordingly...yanking on a stud chain when it is not necessary is ill handling in any breed or caliber. period. And as a matter of fact i have handled high bred stallions. :)

Did you see the fluid on his right knee? It was collecting there. He's getting older and sometimes horses do collect fluid like an old man or woman will on their knees. But no, it's not cruel but, you do have to be careful around studs. There was a woman in the Uk who is a trainer and one of her studs grabbed her by the throat and tore her voice box out! She can't speak again. IF they're breeding, their weight can go up sometimes to 1200 or more pounds and that's alot of horse to handle.

A relation of this horse storm cat and one of Secretariat grandson's ended up getting saved from the knackeries by a rescue group. It just goes to prooves it doesnt matter how famous they were in their younger days or how much money you won once your pass your usefulness they are thrown away like some piece of dispensable rubbish and quickly replaced by the next proposition thats going to earn them money .There is no conscious on how hard that horsed worked for the selfish and greedy humans they only see dollar signs no compassion or empathy for the horses who gave them their best years . This is the dirty little truth abiout the racing industrie that people choose to ignore or turn a blind eye to the very real reality where alot of these beautiful old race horses end up.

When you breed 100 horses to get 10 "good" ones and maybe 1 great one there are just too many to find jobs and homes for. There is no way to predict what mating will produce a winner. Some of the horses who have been champions were not "promising Prospects".It is also eye-opening that the winner and the loser can run over a mile and only be 2 seconds apart.

+PepsiMama2 Please don't sound like an idiot. These handlers know these horses and know far more than you ever will.

If the horse was getting out of hand, then I can understand it, but the horse is calm and simply just moving his head around and the big gavone keep yanking the chain.... and you're the idiot if you think the horse is acting up...

+PepsiMama2 the handlers know the horses and how they will act after just standing for 5 minutes. The horses are ex-racehorses so if he did yank away and run they wont be able to get him until he comes back, so learn your facts before calling people idiots.

But the horse is just standing there..not doing anything and certainly not trying to get away... so why keep yanking on him??
