Storm Causes Flooding On Our Land

Although we live on the other side of the planet (Ireland), we too have had a lot of rain to cope with and our land was soaked through and through too. On our little patch of land we keep several ducks and they have taken very good care of our slug problem this past summer, so much that we cannot find those nasty beasts anymore. Ducks keep poking in the soil anywhere all the time to find whatever they can find to eat, which made feeding them a lot cheaper this summer. Maybe something to think about, especially in climates that are wetter, like ours. And ducks lay eggs too, which are even more nutritious than chicken eggs, although they taste more 'powerful' because of that. Have a blessed time together as a family, and see you again next year.

Apple cider vinegar in your water tank if you aren't drinking it. I just brought a large blastic bin from the warehouse to raise chickens. Easy to clean out and use as storage holder while not in use. Fabulous weather for the gardens, might need the digger around to contour the new driveway towards the stream.

Oh my goodness that’s awful flooding 😲 there is a stuff like Milton that you sterilise baby bottles but is more stronger and prevent that green build up, I got it in the camping shop and do your water barrel too 👍

I agree with others who said that you now know which way the flooding water travels. Use that information but create drainage/regrade that takes the flow away from your buildings.

A good chance to work out where drainage is required in the future. Certainly plenty of water for the tank. With your caravan tank, you need to ensure that light cannot get into it, that's what causes algae growth. Maybe try and different hose and cover the tank. Enjoy your Christmas break. Algae thrives in light. Blocking that light will help reduce the growth rate of the algae. Be very careful about treating your water with any chemicals. Do some research on safe long term water storage/capture, and treatment for your own peace of mind. Always prepare for the worse when it comes to land flooding management. Prepare for 10X that amount of rain fall and re-evaluate water course and flood control locations on your property. Take care and a Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Lots of people off grid with many solutions to water challenges. Best to stay away from any chemical treatment. I'm stuck in the city so I'm not lucky enough to have that off grid water challenge:/ I like the thought of the UV treatment. Researching a method for their particular situation is best.
