Welcome to my channel
This channel is mainly dedicated to videos of my hometown, Blackpool, Lancashire, England.
Blackpool is a beautiful seaside town on the North West coast of England.
We have many cool attractions here including our world famous Blackpool Tower, the Pleasure Beach, three piers and a lovely sandy beach..
Blackpool is a relatively poor town that gets (unfairly in my opinion), a lot of bad press..
The aim of my channel is to show Blackpool in a better light..
No town or city is perfect so it's best to appreciate the good parts wherever you live :)
Also videos of areas surrounding Blackpool. going north we have Bispham, Cleveleys, maybe as far as Fleetwood and Knott End. In the other direction, going south we will be visiting St Annes and Lytham.

At 0:35 you can see the beginnings of the giant storm cloud coming over the horizon. It looks like a light. At 2:09 you can see it travelling forward and also to the right, towards North Pier area. At 4:10 you can see it's getting closer. At 5:00 it's closer to the shore and also closer to North Pier. 6:20 even closer and bigger.

What a dramatic spectacle. I was shocked at first to think you were going to the end of the pier to shoot! Whist watching this I was having my windows bent and tested by Dennis the Menace. Two events are not included in your introduction, namely the would be murmuration of avians desperate to roost. I wonder if they normally roost in one of the pier buildings or inderneath the pier? Those waves seemed to me to be within a few feet of the understructure of the north pier. This brings into question what will happen to the UK piers when the seas rise significantly [as has already started] as there will be times when the walkway boards of the piers will be deeply impacted. I cannot imagine how you held the camera so steadily to provide us with these amazing images Lyca, the film is as thrilling as it is stimulating and thank you so much for bringing it to us, especially at the weekend. Wishing safety for you tomorrow when the storm will possible still be affecting our lives.

Interesting fact about North Pier. In the original plans it was supposed to be 3 feet lower. Then in October 1862 there were some storms and the height was increased by almost a metre. during Storm Ciara the waves were definitely toughing the decking underneath. I imagine if the pier was lower there would have been a lot of damage. I have got a video of the starlings somewhere on my channel, videoed in nicer weather.

@@Lyca31 I had forgotten about the lower original design, the proximity of the wave-tops to the planking this time is even more concerning. Much stock will be held on the floor in all the shops and the theatre and the mechanism of the carousel will be at floor level. I am mindful that to reach the North Pier entrance there is a long ramp descent but the Central pier and the South pier are slightly higher level than the promenade. Long term this is a significant factor for piers everywhere. They are expensive structures to maintain let alone make structural alterations to. I enjoy watching the aerial acrobatics of Starlings when they form a multiude of formation shapes, I hope that I shall happen accross your video one day. How a small bird could fly at all in that wind was amazing.

I caught that storm cloud over my house. Looked weird seeing the blue sky surrounding it around it’s edges.

My grandson (10) watched with me and wanted to know if it was a serious storm. Look like it for sure.

It was serious. Storm Ciara had more rain and higher waves. But Storm Dennis seems to have stronger wind.

I watched all your videos on storm ciara last week. I did spare a thought for Blackpool, when West Midlands was getting battered. It was great to see someone braved that weather, to show us this footage. Then I was surprised to see through your videos, just how many other people were out there on the beach front observing the sea. So how was this storm compared to last weeks storm? It does not appear as aggressive but on top of last weeks water/wind damage, it's quite a lot to cope with.

The tide was higher for Ciara. There was also more rain and therefore more flooding. Dennis has less rain (at least where I live) but stronger wind.

So was the pier closed due to the weather or do they close it at this time of the year

I'm not sure. I think it's supposed to be open right now (or it's supposed to open next week for half term) Either way they would definitely close it because of the weather.
