Storm Drain Pipe Installation Digging Deep Komatsu PC490 Heavy Machinery

Not often you see machinery the size of that 490 working tight streets, and I'd be that crazy old neighborhood spectator with lawnchair in hand following the operation down the street for as many days as it was there!👍 (can we all appreciate the name of the port-a-potty vendor ... "Oui Oui" - pronounced in French is "Wee Wee" haha ha!)

Usually in these residential streets the biggest Komatsu is the 360. I didn't record them but there were a lot of people out of their houses watching the machines. Haha, I just went back and noticed the name of the port a potty!

I saw both Ernie Pestana and Bill Ebert use great big Koehring excavators on narrow city streets in San Jose, Ca. Some of those trenches were a lot deeper than this too.

That 490 excavator combined with the 938 loader are a great pipe combo. You can lay a lot of pipe with those two machines with a hopac chasing you.

I'm very surprised that 938 doesn't have a side dump on it. For this work, it's invaluable.

I'm not sure what you mean, but the trench shield is sitting between the vertical manhole and the excavator. They will plumb the pipe into the sides of the manhole.

Same here, the PC490 is a big machine up close. This one was on its first site when I recorded it, it was brand new.

Sometimes it difficult to separate them as much as you would like to. Both the workers and the public have to be careful.

I know this guy is an excellent operator, but it's not a smart idea to stand around the trench - away from the shield and with no helmet on - and be so close to that big bucket. I do love how the port-a-toilet is called a "Oui Oui" (pronounced 'wee-wee').
