@ Worth a visit in Galway are The Coral Beach, also,Silverstrand, which has fossils all over the beach and has a smaller version of the White cliffs of Dover. In Galway, there are a couple of eateries called Pappa Rich. They serve a nice chicken curry for 11euros which is cheap for Ireland. The one in Salthill is the more accessible and the beach with its prom is worth a visit. Also worth a visit are the trad music concerts in Leisureland,a kind of Best of Riverdance/Lord of the dance. Thinks its only on Tuesday/Thursday nights but u can google info on it. The Museum in Galway,which is Free,is worth a visit. You need a couple of hours here as there is quite a bit of reading involved. Enjoy rest of hols!

@LifeistooshortCK4 жыл бұрын
Yes the North is still open as Ireland does not wish to restrict those who commute daily into the North for work. Had we entered via Dublin we would have had to endure 2 weeks full isolation. Thats not possible in such a small van as we would run out of food. Currently as long as you have been in the UK virus free for 14 days you can drive straight in via the north. We didn’t do that mind, we spent 2 weeks in the North and then came in. 👍

As we move further South there are more and more of them. Anyone who has one seems to be over here but my guess is its quieter than normal due to Covid. A camper is the perfect way to self isolate. We have had very little contact with other people, just the occasional chat with the locals. We will have to come back and do it again once Covid is finished as there is a whole social side we have missed.

Great vlog, there is something very ‘snug’ about hunkering down in a campervan in the rain, love it! It was nice to watch. It shows the benefits of a campervan and how you use it combined with your travels, which is not always an easy balance. It is something we try to achieve on our Channel too. Do you edit and publish as you go and use mobile data? Looking forward to more, Jordan (calicamper family).
@LifeistooshortCK4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jordan, we enjoy watching your family adventures in your van. When is the Nugget due? I do edit and publish on the trip. I have found in the past that if I wait until after the trip it can sometimes be just too daunting wading through thousands of clips. I do it all on my ipad so there is also a space issue where I have to clear out old footage to make way for the new. I have an unlimited data account with EE which has served me well when I can get a signal. Can’t wait to see your first trip in your new van 👍
@CaliCamperFamily4 жыл бұрын
Life is too short the Nugget will hopefully arrive in about 4 months or so. There has been several delays, all due to COVID. We cannot wait and seeing you two on tour when we are without our camper....well, we feel left out! I must start using my iPad for editing on the go too when our adventures resume as we always have a huge editing mission when we return from our trips, and you have a point about data storage. Safe travels and keep hunkering down, J.

@CaliCamperFamily4 жыл бұрын
Life is too short great, thanks for the recommendation. Just looking onto on the AppStore and it looks much better than iMovie. Before I purchase it; something I have always found difficult with the iPad/Pro is actually getting my media files onto it. Memory card from drone, memory card from my Android phone, videos on Jo’s phone etc. Have you a top tip for this (maybe a plug in lightening data reader??), especially whilst on the road? Thanks Ken, J.
@LifeistooshortCK4 жыл бұрын
Getting your files onto the ipad is independent of Lumafusion so if you cannot transfer them Lumafusion will not help. I use an Apple SD card reader to take files from my pocket zoom camera and Mavic Air 2 drone. I use a USB C to USB C to take off the images from my Gopro, airdrop for anything I have on the iphone. Some cameras will only read into the files app on ipad, not into the Photo app. I have a Sony RX100 vii that only does that. Its a pain so I am not using it at the moment but they do transfer fine to the files app and lumafusion can access them from there. The only thing I have found thats rubbish so far is any concept of archiving footage to an SD card. I can send it from the ipad but its just too unreliable. If you need any tips on Lumafusion feel free to join my free Facebook group as most of us use it in there. The link is in the details of my latest video. No pressure, only if you want but its a good group for honest feedback 👍

Window shields The van is supplied with some grey blackout curtains for the rear and side windows and a large blackout curtain fixed with poppers for the front. This front curtain has small gaps at the top of the side windows so we made our own solution for a total blackout. We made paper templates of the side and front windows and then used them to cut out heat reflecting material and black waterproof fabric. These were sewn together into a sandwich of 2 sheets reflective and 2 sheets of outer material. We bought some cheap suckers from Amazon and these secure the blinds to the insides of the windows. While we were at it we made similar shields to fit behind the blackout curtains for all the other windows. Our first trips were in the winter and we did notice quite a difference in heat retention when using them. In the summer months keeping the heat out is more important and on our Ireland trip we decided we didn’t need the black shades at all. The best way to keep the heat out is to use just one sheet of reflective material securely suckered to the outside of the window. That is all you need for privacy and very effective temperature control. We see lots of people with the reflective on the inside but having tried both methods using it on the outside makes a world of difference. Check out the 2 review videos I did of the van its probably in there. 👍

I have seen other campervan videos saying that when it rains hard and it is windy, they have to close the pop-top, otherwise rain comes in through the fabric sides. Do you not have that problem? Do you have one of those fabric wraparounds that you put around the sides of the pop-top to provide additional insulation (which presumably helps to stop the rain coming in too)? I’m just interested as I thought you’d have to put the pop top down. I’m impressed that you didn’t.
@LifeistooshortCK4 жыл бұрын
The side fabric is waterproof up to a point. The wind is the deciding factor. If it’s blowing the rain hard against the fabric we would take it down. High winds rock the van if it’s up so it comes down even without rain. We wild camp mostly and you need to be able to drive off if needed so we would not use an insulated screen on the pop top as they can only be put up and taken down from outside. I keep the van so we can move off without getting out for anything. 👍

Being small it fits in any supermarket car park with ease including multi-storey. I prefer taking it to my big Volvo XC60. Its a different loading experience as there is no boot as such so everything gets dumped on the van floor.
