Storm Hit The Farm

Unexpected storms hit the farm and took down most of our corn! We were just about to harvest 3 rows and hopefully the other 3 will bounce back. Since the storms brought in cooler temperatures we decided to shuck and process all the corn. Thanks for watching and God Bless!

Sorry to see your garden like that. As a young girl I remember going out with my dad and standing our corn back up. We would pack dirt around the base to hold it up and then it would straighten up more on its own.

Consider adding a t-post to each end of your corn rows; maybe one in the middle too. Then use garden twine every 12"- 18" high as the corn grows down each side of the corn;twine, corn, twine in a straight runs unless you want to intertwine the twine every so often for more work. Truth be told, one year we used construction string and that was mighty nice although much more expensive.

Mazzy, so grown up and prettier every day. Good job Leighton on the corn shucking. I never got paid for helping out doing a job like that, we were all expected to do all the chores. However, our parents did pay for everything!😛I started babysitting @ 10 years old, so that is how I earned my spending money. Then got a job @ 16. The corn looked yummy. Ranger is such a good looking young boy & can tell the teen years are affecting the not wanting to be on camera. Thats fine with us! He needs to want to be on camera & we know that you & Cassie will let him do as he wants. You both are so good with your kids! Teaching them that every one has a different personality & not every child is like Ransom. He is a star all by himself 😀 and we love him for that! If the stems aren't broken the corn will stand back up. It will end up a bit crooked, but it will produce unless the stem is actually broken.

Peaches and cream corn is the BEST. It is delicious frozen as well. We usually roast as much as we can to eat fresh on the grill, and then the rest we cut off the cob and put in freezer bags for winter. Best corn ever. The ONLY corn, I would ever plant for human eating. If I had pigs I would plant field corn for animals.

I learned a trick to shucking corn from my Mom: cut the top and bottom first, that way the silk and shuck come off easier and less silk to get rid of.
