Tal vs Botvinnik 1960
Moscow
No sooner did Mikhail Botvinnik regain his title, the chess world became entranced by charismatic young Latvian named Mikhail Tal. Tal won the 1958 interzonal tournament at Portoroz, then helped the Soviet Union to retain the Chess Olympiad; before going on to win the 1959 Candidates Tournament with 20 out of 28 points--a point and a half ahead of second place Paul Keres.
Tal often sacrificed material in search for the initiative in chess. With such intuitive sacrifices, he created vast complications, and many masters found it impossible to solve all the problems he created over the board, though deeper post-game analysis found flaws in some of his conceptions. Although this playing style was scorned by ex-World Champion Vasily Smyslov as nothing more than "tricks", Tal convincingly beat every notable grandmaster with his trademark aggression.

One time Agadmator wanted to buy an very old house. But he was scared, because he heard, that there should be ghosts in the house. So he asked the owner, if there were ghosts. The owner answered: no, I already live 500 years in this house. But I haven't seen any ghosts in this house.

I love Tal!! 1. I love the passage from the book, the hallucination over the board; Tal is always a human being first. He never stopped being a human, a humble poet, a servant of art, whatever his standing in the chess pantheon. 2. I love at 9:33 hearing you say " Tal doesn't want to risk it". Doesn't want to risk drawing with three pawn islands against 4 pawn islands and doubled c pawns! The category "what Tal considered a risk" is one of those wonders of the world which endeared him to chess fans forever. I watch this series as if we don't yet know the result of the 1960 championship. Thank you.

Your comment about reaching move 38 and not being able to see everything is notable. Fischer said he used his advantage in physical and mental endurance to win many of his games. He simply stayed more mentally alert and "in the game" because of his superior endurance. This won him many games throughout his career.

At 14:25 knight to f4 would've been better for tal. White will either lose both queen and knight or get check mate...or if g2 pawn moves to g3, black night can move to e6 with an attack on white queen, also guarding the g7 pawn. Plus the discovered attack on white's knight. White queen can obviously take a pawn but still i think a queen, a knight and bishop can stop a passed pawn easily. I may be wrong. Bdw i love your introduction i.e " Hello everyone!!"

If a game was adjourned it would take place the next day in most cases. Although I once adjourned a game for dinner. The rule in the 60s was something such as 5 hours or 6 I forget or 40 moves whichever was first. Then the player to move had to make a sealed move that only he or she knew. The adjudicator or director would keep the envelope until the game was resumed. Some very great games arose because of adjournment analysis. It was also possible even with all the time to overlook a move which I did once missing a move that was not a direct threat but enabled me to win a Queen and then there was a fork which won my Q and I was material up...I had more material but I lost. My opponent was a young woman at our club (int he 80s).

He explains shortly after that Tal was mistaken and thought the black knight was actually a white knight in this position. One of the events Agad said tal was 'seeing ghosts on the board'.

Those were the ghosts and hallucinations on the board that he mentions shortly after, if you listen to the analysis and explanations.

Tal was actually incredibly humble for admitting his bad calculations. Nothing was stopping him from never even mentioning that, however he still told the truth.

Hi Agadmator, just wanted to give you a headsup that your playlist name "Tal vs Botvinnik | 1960 World Chess Championhip Match" is missing an "s" in "Championship". Keep up the good chess content! ;)
