In Stormvault the MC is known as the "once forged" because she hasn't died in the time she's been a SCE. That was a fascinating idea that some SCE have a good amount of pride in the fact that they haven't been reforged multiple times yet

Maybe they have a sense of survivors guilt? It would also be pretty heartbreaking seeing your friends and comrades slowly change and forget with each reforging. Not to mention watching any humans you knew grow old and die.

@@samfirth1592 Funny you should mention that, because in Thunderstrike & Other Stories there is a novel that follows the new Knight-Relictor unit named Arcantis who has survivors guilt and constantly wonders why he was able to become a Thunderstrike Stormcast while his two friends were not and constantly seeks death so that they might be reunited in oblivion.

I feel this. My bloodbowl team could be Stormcast with how often they die, they could have been reforged. Mostly they die from slipping on gfi rolls so idk if Sigmar would take them

I love the idea in the Soulbound rpg that Sigmar sends Stormcast out with them so that they connect with the other races and build new experiences with them to try and replace some of what they have lost in the reforging process.

I ve noted that that Lord commander of the Exelcior learning that the crusade works was impressed by the human community success. Imao, that could reconcile the humans and the Stormcast the second regain the faith in the civilisation that Sigmar put in their mission.

I'd like to see how the Reforgings are effecting the different Stormhosts differently. Because we know that the Knights Excelsior lose their ability to see shades of morality and the Celestial Vindicators become more and more combat focused. But how are the Hallowed Knights and their faith changing? Or the Tempest Lords and their dedication to leadership and fair rule?

If leaks are to be believed, potentially yes. There's supposedly a great betrayal that ultimately opens the way for the Realmgates to Azyr to finally be broken open, Archaon invades and burns it. That's 2-3 years from now.

But fun for speculation in the meantime, =P Aos 1 was the Realm Gate Wars Aos 2 was the Soul Wars Aos 3 is shaping to be the Beast Wars So that leaves Aos 4, esp with the advent of Dawnbringer Crusades soft rebooting Cities of Sigmar, as...? War of Treachery? Shattered Grand Alliances? Hell, maybe in victory even the Chaos gods start fighting each other over the spoils of Heaven. *shrug*

Each edition had one grand alliance grow in ascendency with first being Order, second being death and 3rd being destruction. 4th edition will likely see the rise of the Chaos factions

Well I thought the biggest complaint on release was that they were to 'space marine' like. I feel like all the care to make them ascended humans and selected mortals rising up by god-king Sigmar falls flat on its face when I hear about them losing their humanity and their identity - they just become like space marines again. Devoted defenders of humanity, but unfeeling and unforgiving. I legitimately think they're better as 'true heroes' with less flaws and as a beacon of hope narratively.

I kind of agree, and I think the slow 40k-ification of AoS is a problem that shows up in some other factions as well. But for stormcast I think it comes with the caveat that not all of the stormhosts behave the same way. The Celestial Vindicators may as well just be lifted straight from 40k, but most others are aren't such edgelord wannabes. I honestly think they just did it so 40k/oldhammer fans could shut up about Stormcast not being grimderp enough. I think the reforging flaws are a really cool idea that adds a lot of flavor to what could easily be a one-dimensional faction. Knowing that they don't fear death, but fear the process that brings them back to life and gives them all of their strength is an interesting layer to it.

Nailed it. The criticism was always "Ah, SigMarines." But then you had these actual good guys that could respawn, but at a cost. Their whole thing was that they were the best, most selfless parts of humanity. AAAaaand then you turn them into SigMarines that have the same stupid zealotry their 40k bros have. Can't stand it.

One thing which has always been unclear to me. Do Lizardmen, Dwarves, and Elves become Stormcast too but when reincarnated into a Stormcast Vessel, their proportions become much closer to that of Sigmar given they are Sigmar's army, but for instance they may look very strange if you took their helmets off? Or are Stormcasts specifically former warriors of the Empire, Bretonnia, The Border Kingdoms, as well as those of humans who have died in ages since? (Warriors throughout the Ages of Myth, Chaos, Sigmar, and now The Beast?)

Age of Sigmar 4th edition will see the first Lightning Gheists for the SCE. With so much of the soul stripped away by Nagash over multiple reforgings, the missing material will be replaced with the Storm; hulking stormcasts that are the Tempest made manifest. Stormcasts the size of dreadnoughts? Im here for it:)

Those are heavy duty crossbows. A good shot can penetrate deep into rock. And they are even tinkered with by the big yellers clan to penetrate heavy armour. Krulboyz are actually very machinery adept.

Kind of reminds me of the Guardians from Destiny. I really love the idea of mortal men and women from all walks of life being reforged into these immortal Demi-god warrior of light/order. Over the ages or after each rebirth/reforging they struggle with losing a bit of their humanity and personality and eventually become something completely unrecognizable.

I wanted to get more into it and I was wondering if the broken realms book trilogy would be a good place to start? @@BoardRoomGamer I'm in the same boat but if you haven't gotten it yet, the core book is honestly a great way to get introduction information it gives you everything you need to know plus a little more. I especially like the cosmology, how the realms work, and the moons that surround them.

Core rule book is a good way to start. And the soul bound RPG material is also an excellent place to look. If money is on the mind the Age of Signar lexicanum has excellent material on their background. If more humour related 1d4chan.

QUESTION: Sigmar takes the heros before they die to avoid them going to Nagash's realm right? If they contain some of Sigmar and are created against their will, the sound a lot like Soulblight. Great Video!

Sigmar only takes the willing. Those heroes dying were either praying to Sigmar or asking him for something which is why he could see them in the first place. In fact we see in a Gotrek short story that people can resist the pull of Sigmar, it can have bad consequences though.

I've liked Stormcast since AoS 1. Yes, the perjorative of Sigmarine is well-deserved. I wish their inclusion didn't come at the expense of the old world. However, I like them anyway. An army of lightning paladins serving a combo of Thor + other deities. Works well. Disappointed in their new Battletome, though. Oh well --- at least we can build an all dragon army now (and it's potentially pretty good too --- maybe not meta-breaking will destroy everything, but definitely strong!)

A little late to the video but Soul Wars is a fantastic novel about Stormcast, maybe the best in all of AoS. Plus it has an incredible audiobook with great performances, especially for Nagash. Stormcast are deceptive in that they're marketed like 40k marines, but could not be more different. Marines are murderous idiots blathering on about honor, Stormcast are people (mostly humans) plucked from their most desperate hour to become the defenders of the realms. They start as heroes (mostly, some very much aren't), and must face the ennui both of a life of unending sacrifice and torment, but also a reforging process that slowly deletes who they were. Until nothing remains but the storm itself. Thus their struggle is not merely against unending forces of chaos, destruction, and death, but to retain the ideals that made them chosen for service in the first place. Inevitably, as chaos warriors become Slaves to Darkness, so too do Stormcast become Slaves to Sigmar. Passive conduits of his fading will.

Unpopular opinion: Space marines and stormcast Eternals are waaaaay too different. The only similarity is how they look and that they're "good guys". Everyone that is comparing SCE to marines is just really boring person without any creativity. Plus repeating the same thing for nearly 6 years is pretty hilarious.

Im really not a fan of the gray they keep painting into Stormcasts...call me basic or naive or whatever but I LOVE the big good guys in fiction. To me SCE were the Superman of the setting. Now GW keeps trying to make them Batman. You can do amazing things with the SCE without changing their core with all this moral ambiguity.

I respect your opinion but I disagree. Warhammer (at least in my experience) has always been about morally grey and ambiguous characters. A all good faction just doesn't work for warhammer. It feels really out of place. Sorta like the tau were originally in 40k.

Why they are cool? They do one thing that their space cousin fails to do... "They fall" withou becoming the bad guy. On your side you can see a SC who goes out of his/her way to save every human being. A couple reforges later the same SC would be killing humans just because they had a possibility of being corrupt (Arthas? Is that U?) It turns the game less black and white and add some cool shades of gray...

It's implied in the book "Soul Wars" that one of the Evocators may have been forged from the soul of an elf. It's entirely possible that some of the souls used to create Stormcast are drawn from other races, though never clearly defined one way or the other.

You want to know the sum of the parts? Ok, as a person who has been at this for 30 years, GW recycles lore. All I see are Necrons from 20 years ago almost to the letter. I don't just mean the lore. I mean the development of the faction and release of models is the sane as Necrons. It can be inferred that SCE will eventually end up where the Necrons are now. Why Necrons? There was no way to bring Necron back story into 40k. Their lore took place 2 million years before humans existed why waste the resources publishing it? Since their story was not published it can be used for SCE.
