Bond is a killer. In MY opinion Daniel Craigh plays that part exceptionally well. Timothy Dalton is a strong number two. George Lazinby number three and Pierce Brosnan number four. Roger Moore is a sad number five. Sean Connery is superior and above them all.

@@curtyeomans8446 Geoffrey Holder's death as Baron Samedi was more inspired. Holder wasn't too happy when he read what he'd have to do. The ambiguity at the end was a nice touch. But how to kill Kananga at least as well without getting gory? Death by snake was already taken. Decompression and shark are the only ones left. The warning of the pellet pin parallels the warning to Goldfinger about guns in planes: the warning locks in the *deus ex machina.* The unsatisfyingly comical nature is also paralleled. Maybe just suggest his head blew up by being no more explicit than to say, "He always did have a swelled head." An underwater explosion? More *Jaws,* less *Star Wars?*

Mine too. Maybe it's because he was my childhood Bond and the first one I was introduced to but it's very difficult to say that Roger Moore isn't my second favourite Bond. Connery probably gets top spot and Brosnan and Craig are very good . Heck I even like Lazenby quite a lot and wonder how he would be treated if he had done one or two more movies as James Bond. People find it very easy to dismiss Roger Moore but he has great moments like in Spy Who Loved me and even his last outting in A View To a Kill; he's a bit too old for the part by then but he still pulls it off in my opinion.

R.I.P Roger Moore, Michael Lonsdale, Richard Kiel, Yaphet Kotto, and Clifton James I miss Roger Moore, Michael Lonsdale, Richard Kiel, Yaphet Kotto, and Clifton James so much and I always had a soft spot for the Roger Moore Bond Era from Live and Let Die to Moonraker. Roger Moore was a brilliant James Bond actor, Live and Let Die is my favorite Roger Moore bond film, and Moonraker is a very underappreciated and great bond film. Michael Lonsdale as Hugo Drax along with Yaphet Kotto as Dr. Kananga are both one of my favorite bond villains, Yaphet Kotto was an excellent film actor in Live and Let Die and Alien, and Richard Kiel was an awesome bond henchman as Jaws. I also loved Clifton James as J.W. Pepper, J.W. Pepper was a hilarious side character in Live and Let Die, and J.W. Pepper's return in The Man With The Golden Gun was also very good.

Roger had no messy hair. I would say the producers made the mistake to cast younger actors or leading ladies, next to an aging Roger which made him look older. I have to agree in that. I have seen so many James Bond "purifiers" recently that made me think why is everyone so obsessed with making James Bond according to modern standards like people saying how sexist he is and then make a movie how James doesn't have a thing for women or speak ill of them Roger Moore just didn't give a damn and delivered his lines to perfection 👌 he knew he is playing a part and he didn't take himself seriously as if his Bond one liners were somehow indicative on himself and so he wasn't afraid to Crack jokes that could be deemed offensive or edgy or risky because he understood the essence of comedy of sarcasm and of Bond was never the role model to begin with. He is an action hero that give people some taste of adventure behind the scenes of brittish secret services. He was never meant to be this all pure Superman model to "teach kids" stuff.

That and the scene at Tracy's grave in For Your Eyes Only are two of my favorite scenes. Moore proves his dramatic acting chops there, no quip, no monologue, merely the looks say it all. With Triple X he connoted grief and anger at the mere dig about Tracy. At Tracy's grave, honest stoic grief in silence. All very human and shows that he deserves his spot between Connery and Dalton as for me top 3 Bonds all time.

Hard to believe Roger Moore is some tough, resourceful secret agent. He had to fill large shoes after Sean Connery. He couldn't replace Connery, but brought a sense of dry humor and sophistication. But James Bond was not a sophisticated dilettante. He was most likely a former Special Boat Squadron naval commando (British equivalent to the US Naval SEALS) before he went to the Intelligence Service. He was supposed to be able to fight his way out of a situation, do stupendous action hero stuff, and suave enough to bed all the women. I had heard a near comparison: Connery could fight his way out of a bar. Moore would buy everyone a round of drinks and talk his way out of a fight. Tim Dalton would kill everyone in the bar and enjoy it. Pierce Brosnan could fight his way out of a bar fight but would rather sneak out the back door if he could. Daniel Craig could and would kill everyone and have a drink afterwards. In the end, Moore was too wrinkled and old, and the Bond movies became a running joke instead of action and suspense. Villians were cartoons and not credible.

Though the cartoonishness started with Diamonds Are Forever - including Blofeld in drag! Moore said that the moment Tiffany Case recognised Bond's passport (making him the best-known secret agent in the world!) the series could no longer be taken seriously.

Roger Moore was the best James Bond imho. Maybe not the greatest actor (to which I'm sure he'd agree), but the most suave and elegant and with the best sense of humour, as well as the best voice. One of my favourite scenes is in Live and Let Die (the first Bond movie he did, and the first that I saw). He offers Solitaire (Jane Seymour) to pick a Tarot card. She picks The Lovers, and he says, "You knew that already, didn't you? And somehow - so did I". And while they kiss, the stack slides out of his hand, and we see that all the cards are identical. Love that moment!

His acting is underrated I think. The way he showed subtle notions of the book Bond, like even in Live and Let Die, his face momentarily darkens when the desk clerk says, "Mrs. Bond has already checked you in". Not a direct mention, but he and Dalton had the best On Her Majesty's Secret Service call backs. Despite Sir Roger's at times lighter portrayal of Bond, he more than adequately showed the darker tones of the character, they shine best in For Your Eyes Only, The Spy Who Loved Me, The Man With The Golden Gun, and even Octopussy (look past a few goofy moments). I always feel that Sir Roger always get the short end of the stick, yet though not the most Fleming-Bond, he had Fleming moments in his acting.

For Your Eyes Only is probably my favorite Roger Moore movie as 007. It’s so Ian Fleming Bond in that film. Moore is so underrated as a dramatic actor, and he acts really good when being dramatic, Bond is so brutal in that film and I love it so much. I’ve always loved the mountain death, when he throws the knife at the henchman and he falls.

Roger proved he could be a decent spy in FYEO, TSWLM and Octopussy, but for the most part, his James Bond was written like a cartoon character. That obviously isn't his fault entirely, but if you're playing a spy, I really don't think you should be known as "Nice Guy James Bond." In the books, he's a narcissist, alcoholic and drug addict.

I liked the actors who had a bit of an edge to them. Moore had a theatricality and had fun with the absurdity of what they gave him to play. But he never really was the Bond Fleming wrote like Dalton was, or Lazenby. At least Moore and Brosnan played Bond for all the silliness of the material they were given. Craig was never playing Bond.
