I lived in Colorado for 47 years, can't say I miss this one bit! Tips for the newbies: 1. Have adequate snow tires, or grip helpers you can put on your tires. 2. Learn how to drive in this, it happens every year with out fail. 3. If you're from Texas or the south, let an experienced driver handle this until you learn, otherwise you are simply a hazzard on the roads. 4. Keep extra water, snacks, blankets, warm clothing in your vehicle in case you are stranded. 5. If you don't have to go out in weather like this, DON'T.

What you’re seeing is rare as often we only get a very dry snow (why they call it ‘powder’) with little to no ice and it’s gone the next day due to immense sun exposure at 5200 feet and above. Me, I live in the mountains where the driving can truly be treacherous and I’m not talking fancy roads like I70 and 285 but roads that get no maintenance whatsoever. I just find it funny when people think that weather conditions are difficult in Colorado. Driving is easy in Denver. They get little snow (46” avg / year) and it’s usually a dry snow and it’s usually gone the next day. In other states in the mid-South, it’s usually all ice and that’s a whole different condition to grow up on driving. All I know is when I’m driving around in it in my lifted 4Runner, Trooper or Montero, I’m always pulling Coloradoans, Natives, out with my winch and most are from Denver and the Springs and I hear all of the time, “I grew up here!” I just laugh, “yep, that’s why you’re in the ditch. If you absolutely do not have to go out just don't it's not worth the risk. Speaking from experience after surviving bad ice and snow storms here in 77, 82, the blizzard of 93, the back-to-back ice storms during the 2010's Sometimes it's just not worth the risk of you getting hurt or worse just need to stay home, until it blows over You can seriously injure yourself just simply walking down the driveway., Much less driving., Speaking from experience. I believe chains and/or winter tires are mandatory in Colorado as of 5 years ago from October to March on the Interstate otherwise it's a misdemeanor State ticket, but then again, Governor never enforces any of that. Some stuck out-of-State folks caught by surprise here too. Without mandatory snow-tires, Colorado winters can be rough. Great video! Glad no one got hurt!

This is almost exactly what we were driving in around 4 this morning on the freeway it was 🍌 bananas! Such HEAVY, SLUSHY snow the roads hadn't been plowed at all. We slipped and slid the WHOLE time and had 1 really good complete did out that took us spinning across 2 lanes and ending up facing in the opposite direction. (lol!) It was scary stuff! 😁🥴 Happy New Year Everyone 🎉

I always have a chuckle watching videos like this. Every year in these areas (I’m from Canada btw) there’s videos like this where people seemingly forget how to navigate in this weather. I’ll admit, after a long summer it takes a little bit to get back into the swing of things but by this time there shouldn’t be any issues. I see lots of out of state plates though so that also plays into the issues here.

What do those people think? That their four-way flashers will give them more traction or something? Everybody is already going slow, so shut those off. They are a distraction. If you feel you need your four-way flashers, I suggest you get over on the berm, park your vehicle, and assume the fetal position until spring.

@@garygrant9612 - I truly hope most of them glean knowledge in a safe meaningful way. When my son was taking driver's ed, I took him out to an empty huge snowy parking lot that was far away from everyone else. Under my supervision, I told him to do all kinds of crazy things to learn and experience how a car reacts in snow. We were in that lot for hours and I created scenarios that I wanted him to experience while out of the harm of traffic. That was over 20 years ago. He must have gotten a lot out of it. He's a good driver. More parents should do that. Take their kids out to a huge lot and let them do snow donuts, skid out of control and learn the vehicle on snow away from everyone else! Yep! Loved it!

I'm from michigan, and one thing I noticed is when you're on certain sections of Highway and there's slight inclines even a tilted Road, like a bridge that you see halfway through this video, you can't go too slow, because you're going to slide downwards to the inside of the pavement. You have to keep up some kind of momentum so your vehicle stays with the energy to keep you in a decent Lane to get up that incline and over that bridge. You can tell there were numerous cars that were just too chicken to carry any kind of speed. So they slid off to the inside and then of course you're stuck cuz you can't get back up

I grew up in northeast wisconsin in the 50s and 60s with heavy snowfalls in winter. The plow would dump a huge amount of snow in our driveway after shoveling. We would dig huge snow tunnels through these piles of snow. As a child the heavy snows were wonderful. As adults driving in show and the intense cold was not so wonderful. I recognize the Texas license plate with the front wheel car spinning in the lot out of control. That guy needs snow tires or chains. Spinning your front tires is a waste. They need to get snow tires or chains and learn to drive in snow and ice. They are going to spin out of control and cause an accident.

Don't know anybody remembers the blizzard of 06; it shut down DIA before Christmas. I was driving a taxi mini van for metro Taxi and it was front wheel drive. I had no problem navigating the Denver Metro area dropping people off from DIA back to their homes. Snow storms like this are nothing new if you've been here for decades or a native. A good set of snow or studded tires , basic driving skills and some common sense will keep you out of trouble. And if you don't have those three things, best to stay home.
@cmc5394oparva Жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you live there long enough, you'll go through at least one of these eventually. I've been through the ones in December 82 and March 03 that shut the city down for a couple of days, and a really nasty one in the fall of 1997 that turned the highway into a moonscape.
