Unreal Engine needs a Solid and Robust Data Oriented Progamming Framework built into the engine. Yes, there is the apparatus plugin, but I think Epic should buy them out if it is good enough, or focus more on their MASS framework and make it top notch and better than DOTS, BURST ect for Unity. A team of Modders became Indie Developers and are building a fantastic framework using Unity DOTS, BURSAT etc to make an upcoming (2025?) large scale RTS with THOUSANDS of simulated units + THOUSANDS of simulated projectiles. (Sanctuary Shattered Sun), This project is honestly pretty lam in this day in age and dissapointing to see Indie Developers accomplishing more than a team like this with a larger team, and a lot more money and not to mention a more skilled team. With DOP, Unreal could be a great platform for simulation visualization, such Fluid Dynamics, Crowd Simulations, CFD simulations and visualization. Its a MASSIVE increase in performance when dealing with many entities/objects/computations

Of units? 4v4 games in SC2 have up to 1600 units, and that is a 14 year old game

This KZbin video needs an advertisement warning, this entire thing is just an Ad to sell middle ware, not a real technical talk. This is kinda pathetic. 1000 units is not a lot, and they didn't say how they achieved this mediocre result, which implies they think its impressive and worth keeping secret... but maybe if they opened their source, better devs would point out how you could get 100,000 units by refactoring to data oriented design and boids.

OTOH this is exactly the type of technology that I want available in Unreal and Unity. I think the lack of lock-step networking support (and everything that comes with it) in the most popular game engines for the past decade+ has seriously hampered a lot of multiplayer game genres that rely on it. (Multiplayer RTS, multiplayer tower defense, etc.) It's unfeasible for most teams and especially most solo developers to build this stuff on their own. I've been really hoping that they allow other developers to have access to their tech somehow. In a Q&A they signaled support for some sort of potential release in the future, and this video lends more to the idea that they are planning on doing so. The cherry on top is modernizing it with rollback and high tick rate. Also, they said "1000s" not "1000".

If you could please point me to a game that allows for 100,000 units at >60hz tick rate that are microable +100 APM with low latency that will run on my mid-tier PC at >140 FPS... I would be VERY happy to play it! (No seriously, my dream)

I'd like to see your implementation of an RTS engine that can compute the pathfinding for 100,000 units w/ collision on the fly! There seem to be software prodigies hiding in every youtube comment section these days.

@@user-ur4nl6dq2x I worked on a game on Unity with 10 000 unit on screen, 144 Hz. So no, 1000 unit is not awesome. SC2 already did this almost 14 years ago, and technology is far more advanced today, even for indie dev. +10k for AA or AAA should be standard today, they are just lazy for not doing it. BTW, you should play They Are Billions. You can really get +5000 zombie on screen with correct IA and your units are microable.
