Correction: While Steel Legion Stromtroopers may seem similar to Death Korps Grenadiers, they are very different as they are organized into divisions and usually are sent to support units on a company level. Additionally, while they do sometimes wear the Steel Legion rebreather most of them wear the usual Stormtrooper pug faced mask.

No joke the Kasrkin vs. Chaos Cult part in the second Eisenhorn book was epic. It started as "Well, seems elite enough" when they decimated the cultists effortlessly, but then the Daemon host appears and oh man the sequence was the indomitable human spirit kicking in. They died but they did to save and buy some time for Eisenhorn and his team; basically holding back.

Well tabletop Wargames started with little Tin Soldiers, way back in the 1700s. These Tin Soldiers were the "Army Men" of their time. The Napoleonic Tin Soldiers is what started D&D. "Chainmail" was a ruleset for incuding Fantasy elements in Napoleonic Wargames, And that is what directly inspired D&D. Warhammer Fantasy Battles Started cause Games Workshop had the UK license for D&D and they came up with it as a way to assemble your D&D mini collection into a whole army. Then 40k Rouge Trader was Warhammer Fantasy Battles "IN SPACE" So, it all comes Full Circle.

@@agent5778 after the Horus Heresy they were disbanded as a formation. They were an entirely self sufficient extremely well equipped human army that could quickly and easily replenish its numbers and had equipment for pretty much any kind of combat. They were nearly as dangerous as an astartes fleet when they went rogue. So the astartes got cut down into chapters because the imperium was run by primarchs after the heresy and they were seen as the perfection of human warriors by the emperor. The solar auxilia had no such protections so instead of being cut down into smaller formations they were outright removed as a pattern of the imperial army.

Fun fact: Stormtroopers that make it out of the Schola Progenium and into a guard regiment are actually "rejects" - the best of the best get taken into an Inquisitorial retinue instead. Imagine, if the rank-and-file stormtroopers are this elite, how much better are the ones that work for the Inquisition? Source: "Caves of Ice" by Sandy Mitchell (2nd Ciaphas Cain novel).

You could probably get a really good tactical strategy game out of the Scions or Kasrkin. Something like Aliens Dark Descent where you control a fire team in real-time to complete objectives, with an alarm meter that ramps up the difficulty as your team is discovered and spends more time fighting.

Fun fact - in Dark Crusade, if Tau are the one that beat the Imperial Guard, in their epilogue there is an info that after the fall of Victory Bay to the Tau some Karskins managed to escape to the wilds and they started a guerilla war against the xenos. Imagine a book about them in a scenario like this :)

One of my favorite "Elite Troops" of humanity are the Lucifer Blacks, they caught on to Alpharius and thought "Nah I'd win." even though they didn't but one did manage to land a blow on him. They are as close to a Custodes a human can get.

In terms of skill alone to make a wash down comparison. If the regular guard are equivalent to regular frontline battle brothers of the astartes, The Scions are the equivalent to the Grey Knights/Death Watch and the Lucifer Blacks are the Custodians.

Harakoni need more lore! What we have is so badass. these fuckers are basically the U.S. Army Rangers during WW2 but with Plasma guns and against flesh tearing horrors! They got two modes: Hot drop directly into the most well defended zones like a Helldiver, and then just hold out for as long as you can until the main force can relieve you. Or guerilla warfare where they are dropped behind the lines and expected to act like Catachans, minus the genetic superiority.

My custom regiment Storntroopers are called “Tannith scouts” (obviously based on the tannith First n only) and i imsgine the deep strike as them being camoflsuged in position ahead if time for ambushes

Nice video! But I think the Lucifers Black deserves an honor mention! There's sadly not much lore but a whole storm strooper regiment thats trusted with guarding the imperial palace along side *custodes * and that can trace their lineage back to the great crusade crusading with the big e himself

Kasrkin are also my favorit stormtroopers. There is another epic Kasrkin moment in the lore, namly in the book "cadian blood", where a Kasrkin seargent climbs up a chaos dreadnought with his broken arm and proceeds to kill the dreadnought by shooting in the eyeslit with his hot shot laspistol!

Fun fact: at the siege of Kraks Khornate space marines arived and started killing the death korps of Krieg but after the death korps reorganised a bit they fought the khornate berserkers in MELEE COMBAT and WON by sheer will and determination

Storm Troopers in all their forms are probably my favourite infantry in 40K. The metal 3rd Edition ones are still my favourites - I love their respirators especially, like a sci-fi version of the SAS in the photos from the Iranian Embassy Siege in the 80s. The poses werent perfect as you say, and the models are a bit 'busy' with all the grenades and pouches, but while I quite like the plastic Scions, I wish they had been a bit closer to their predecessors (though having the beret option, as a nod to the original STs, is very nice). The Kasrkin models - metal and Kill Team plastic - are great as well. ...still really think that Hellguns/Hot-shot Lasguns should have -2AP and all Stormies have Toughness 4 (in exchange for a small cost increase) though.

I like to imagine stormtroopers like ODST's from Halo, the best of the best, yet horribly overshadowed by their superhuman counterparts and they resent it. They get sent on space marine caliber missions with lasguns and carapace armour and succeed through unimaginable skill, grit, determination and sacrifice, yet the 'emperors angels' get all the glory.
