The SCOTUS ruling made it so trump demanded a mistrial because 1. He signed some of the checks while in the Oval Office and 2. Hope Hicks testified so trump says her testimony was part of “official duties” and he would have been immune for all that. Now, there is no validity to those arguments, but if judge Marchan doesn’t at least listen to briefs about it, it gives trump a reason to go to (eventually) SCOTUS on appeal and have them throw the whole thing out. We have to trust Marchan on this. He hasn’t let us down yet. He knows all the tricks defense lawyers play, far better than we ever could. He’s got our back. I trust him. That’s not to say he will give Trump prison time, since that would be a stiffer penalty than others who have committed the same crime have faced, but I really hope he finds a way. Money fines mean nothing to trump. He uses other people’s money.
