I'm glad I ran across this lady! I can't believe more people don't know of her. But I also just recently discovered a number of other B3 Hammond players from the 60s. I thought Jimmy Smith was the only one. I was seriously mistaken; Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff, Charles Earland and a couple of others. I love the McGriff Hank Crawford mix. But Barbara is totally smoking and the foot work is too much! I love it. And she has such a nice personality. What a delight she is and treasure of the jazz world!

Watching this at the start of the performance you get the feeling that you're watching a pretty girl playing an organ very nicely and then at 3:20 you suddenly get smacked in the face and realise that this pretty girl is in fact an absolute keyboard genius. She just knocks it out of the park. Great band too. BD is a phenomenal organ player, up there with the greats.

The youngest jazz organ genious plays the biggest Dr. Böhm jazz organ ever... probably built by her father and Dr. Böhm. I ve seen her playing in munich some years before that in a small bar... with her drummer. I think she started to play in clubs when she was little 15 or 16... amazing.

Elle s'est perfectionnée aux côtés de la grande Rhoda Scott, dont je suis un grand Fan depuis que j'ai moi-même commencé à étudier l'orgue à l'âge de 8ans (en 1983), merci à mon père qui possédait quelques 33T de l'organiste aux pieds nus "barefoot lady" !!!! Je suis allé la voir par quatre fois dans ma vie, une fois au caveau de la huchette, une fois à l'église Saint Ambroise de Paris (elle jouait du Gospell) et à deux reprise à Montargis (45200) où elle avait gentillement répondu à l'invitation du club de jazz local....!

Habe diese Sendung damals live im TV gesehen. War damals gerade dem Teeangeralter (bin ein Jahr jünger als Barbara) entwachsen. Was waren damals noch für Zeiten, als in solchen Shows noch live musiziert wurde! Und heute? Alles playback. Ist ja schließlich billiger. Schaue mir heute eh keine Shows mehr an, ist mir alles zu steril und zu niveaulos geworden.

The funny thing, the Dr. Bohm organ did a good job to emulate a Hammond. Barbara moves a bit like Rhoda Scott but she doesn't look like a little girl who starts to explore the world. Later she uses a self sampled contrabass for pedal plus a vintage Hammond.

William Speakman Cherry the guy who introduced her is himself an accomplished piano player and singer. His name is Michael Schanze and at the time he was as omnipresent in TV as a Jay Lenno or David Letterman. Without him, Babs would probably not even have been in a big Saturday evening show like this, because at that time Jazz was deemed not to be compatible with the masses!
