There's a theory that Aerith is a alive in the multiverse. In this world, she dies obviously, but in the other multiverse, she's alive. Thus making her a sentient being. That's one of the reasons why Cloud is the only one that can see her in this timeline. That's what I read

I don’t really see the alternate timeline thing. I think Cloud is mentally fragmented and having delusional thoughts. She is dead but his mind isn’t letting him see it. Hence why at. 2:34:10 you see him in pain, and he sees what really happened for a moment, but his mind blocks it and he sees Aerith sitting there.

I felt Aerith's death wasn't as impactful as the original. They cut some of the most important things out to put emphasis on Cloud's broken self. It almost felt like we we're robbed of a very important scene. I knew where the game was going to end, and leading up to that scene I was looking forward to Cloud's lines.. but we never got them because he can't cope with loss. It's honestly frustrating, but that's his character right now. Honestly, Rebirth was a great game. The next one is going to be wild and I cannot wait!
