I am from the ~future~ and (at least from my experience) the 2 main problems you had with the game are indeed fixed! :) A weird story about makers for me is that I played a bit and took a break, waiting for some updates and when I came back I was putting stuff in the maker and I was like "wait.... could I always put 10 things in each maker???" XD I thought it was player error until I saw that a bunch of people had a problem with them. But becauseof that i didn't realize how long the makers could only take 1 at a time, i didn't realize how longit took for them to fix it. As for the candidates and towns folk, I do remember their dialog being plain and how god awful the heart scenes were, I mean I thought it was just the candidate I chose until I saw other people talking about it. I can't speak for the all marriage candidates but the one's I've pursued have painfully dull, unrelated scenes that barely include you at all. Even worse with the "boyfriend" scenes where you're either watching a family interact with each other about a problem that has nothing to do with you and gets solved immediately (seriously, I wasn't even addressed in this scene it was pointless) or with Ralph's 6 heart scene I went from having no romantic scenes with him before hand or even any inkling that he was into me to then rubberband into how "cute of a couple we are" on what is effectively our first date. The tonal inconsistencies are pretty grating and confusing. I have no idea why they went for half the scenes I've run into. The dialogue needs updating but I hope they fix the heart cutscenes too. I feel about as close to my partner now as I did back when I first started 9 hearts ago and the whole thing's just a bit weird. Fun game, but the fun is in the farming I think. The people need some serious work. (Except for Lars. That goof is perfect.)

Yeah, there’s definitely issues here for me - the maker limitations, mixed with how EVERYTHING needs processed items to do things, is one of the big ones, but I was definitely pleased to see adjusted cooking times on the next patch since 30 minutes per dish is just too long to be practical - but on the whole? The farming is still solid. (Though I do wish we had a brush for animals. No dedicated milker/shears, perfectly fine, but I like the extra step of brushing rather than ‘sometimes you get an extra interaction but not always, and it’s not clear what triggers this.) I’ve seen people complain about the lack of portraits, and I do think it’s a shame we don’t get to see full ones in that lovely artstyle, but the models in cutscenes are solid so I’m fine there. The issue with characterization is mostly that in non-cutscenes, you get neither a clear look at those models nor particularly riveting dialogue. The characterization in events is on par with Story of Seasons 1 - while there’s sometimes a ‘oh I wish you’d focus in on this aspect instead’ characterization moment, it’s totally serviceable. There’s just not enough in the day to day dialogue to give you a clear sense of characterization OUTSIDE that, so some characters feel a lot more one note because they have such limited dialogue (Reina, for instance) while others don’t have a clear throughline (Damon, whose most interesting event I’ve seen so far was the one about him in conflict with his parents and implying he’s kind of not sure how to interact with his family... and is actually one of Bridget’s events, and her first one touching on her relationship with her brother at all.) At the same time, the environmental designs are FANTASTIC - I actually went looking and every set of parents/in one case grandparents (for Cindy and Jack) have pictures of the kids in their homes or rooms somewhere. All the baby pictures are unique. The room designs are all done with this marvelous care! Which makes weird issues with modeling like the ‘every meal consists of the same four things’ or characterization like the underwhelming daily dialogue stand out more. (There’s also occasionally weird tonal stuff like Iori’s heart events alternating between ‘perfectly normal’ and ‘wait what,’ which is just BAFFLINGLY different stakes from every other character. I find this both amusing and... deeply confused. Wouldn’t mind if everyone occasionally went into Random Peril, but so far it’s just Iori and even the deeper event lines like Blaire’s or Jack’s are more ‘trying to find my way in the world.’) Mostly I think what the game could have used was more time being played and assessed for balance - things like the makers or cooking times, or not having elevators for the later mines, or the speed at which trees and grass respawn aren’t fatal design flaws (or even not fatal but still extremely noticeable, like ANB’s Longest Tutorial Ever.) They’re issues where the core idea is serviceable but the execution needs tweaking. ... Though the choice to separate out as many different makers as there are is still kinda odd. Just a little more complex than necessary. Also I don’t dislike the Harvest Sprite system but I don’t yet *get* it and what it adds as much. It feels obvious SOMETHING went awry in development (since FOMT apparently started development after and was released before POOT,) and I think there’s actually a little more influence from Stardew Valley than strictly necessary (though some of that’s just opinion - it’s pretty clear consensus is that we want farming competition festivals back, but I can see my preference for SOS’s existent but simplified fertilizer system being a bit more of an ‘eh, fine either way’ one,) but it’s still Story of Seasons and the game is on the whole serviceable. Probably not going to replace 3OT as my favorite, ultimately - the characterization in that one’s just SO strong, and even the joy of playing a textually gay character hasn’t eclipsed how much I love that cast yet - but I’m ranking it a 7 out of 10 right now knowing patches are expected that’ll probably bump it up. Flawed, but certainly fixable, and I’m SO glad Marvelous was so quick to respond to feedback and say ‘yeah, this will take time but we will absolutely make these fixes.’ Between that and my eagerly awaiting the returning characters from the DLC, I’m taking a bit of a break in Early Summer to catch up on my backlog, but this isn’t going to need to be a No Man’s Sky level retool. Though it might be a bit more like Tree of Tranquility to Animal Parade - wasn’t that an initially rougher game that was fairly significantly improved on rerelease? Or am I misremembering?
@suicune20013 жыл бұрын
Iori's cutscenes are pretty great. lol. Ralph has somewhat dangerous cutscenes too. From what I can tell, the sprite system is specifically for the Goddess of the game. You can get stamina, free stuff from the sprites themselves, and I guess unlock more areas? I haven't earned enough points to unlock a special area yet. I think it's just an extra perk for doing what you're going to do anyway which is mine, chop, and cut.

While the walking dialogue did seem pretty dry, I was personally more jarred by the events themselves. Oftentimes there aren't any choices for you to make or you aren't even in the event at all! And when you do have choices that aren't just standing around, most of them are either "okay choice 1, 2, and 3" or the character will redirect you to the right answer if you pick what they weren't looking to hear. And as happy as I am to hear they'll be fixing dialogue, I also feel like I'll have to replay from the beginning to really enjoy it properly, except I've already put so much effort into what I have now

I am enjoying the game overall but Trio of Towns set the bar for me. Not all SoS games have to meet that bar exactly but so many features from ToT are missing in this game. A lot of missing little details becomes very noticeable. When I started dating Ford, EVERYONE had something to say about it. Then when he proposed, people were congratulating me and some of the more elder characters were giving me advice. In PoOT, no one mentioned I was even getting married except for one cutscene with the mayor. ToT had makers that stacked. I don't know why that wasn't a feature in this game. Heck, if you wore winter clothing in Summer, Ford would ask if you were sick. Ford also complemented you if you wore one of the kimonos. I haven't made any clothing in PoOT but I highly doubt anyone will say anything. Not having a milker and such makes me feel pretty distant from my animals. I just spam A, let them outside, then forget they exist until tomorrow morning. It's kind of like what some have said about Harvest Moon's one button system. It kind of makes the game a bit monotonous and no-brainer. Why the heck is food so worthless? I mean, seriously! I don't even want to bother cooking since there is no cooking festival. I think that's the other problem with my cows and sheep, etc. There is no cow/chicken festival. I can't show off my hard work. There is a dog festival but my dog was max affection in only 2 weeks. I think having the beginner, medium, and advanced festivals was a better system. Oh, and since there is no harvest festival and I don't find crops to be worth the effort, I only plant one seed of each crop to sell to the general store. I do like the mine up until level 30. Those mole things can go to hell because they are so aggravating!! Again, overall the game has a fun loop. I just proposed to Iori and I did really like I could pick my wedding outfit. But again, the dialogue in the cutscenes seems less meaningful. I didn't have any dialogue choices really and any time in EVERY cutscene I've seen so far, dialogue choices mean NOTHING. You'll make a bunch of choices and then it's "Oh never mind. ^_^; " Which got annoying the 3rd or so time it happened. Is it a good farming sim? Yeah, I would say it's overall a good farming game. But as Story of Seasons goes.....ehhhh..... I'm shocked they made the mistakes they did when looking at ToT. But they are making patches so I'll probably start my game over once it's patched. I do agree that the cutscenes I've seen so far are really good. I've cracked up with some of them since the townsfolk are such goofballs.

This game had me addicted right away. It’s been a long time since I had a game I was so exited for and just couldn’t stop playing. I’ve played for 50 hours and are almost finished with my first year. Of course there are a lot of things I miss and I tend to compare it to my favourite Sos entry: trio of towns, but regardless I have really been enjoying it, especially the customisation of your farm. I do wish there was more quest after you finish building the town, like in Trio of towns you had three towns that you could increase your town rank with, and that would always give you new quests you could work toward to make the towns better in certain ways (new shops, things to buy, fixing broken bridges and things like that). I’ve probably played that game for 100 hours and I’m still not done. I love having goals to work towards, and I’m kind of sad that I’m almost done with everything. But I’m really exited about the DLCs and the patches. I really like this game and I want to keep playing for a long time. I also think the festivals are lacking, no cooking, animal or crop competitions. I felt like that was a way to show and be rewarded for your progress on the farm. But regardless of its flaws, it’s a fun experience where I feel like I’m always progressing in some way. If it’s not with my skills, it’s with my farm, friendships, the town or repairing buildings.

There are issues but it really speaks for the potential of this game that I still enjoyed playing it. I'd say I have the issue with how the character models look so good but they're only really seen close up during cutscenes or with the camera. If we dont have portraits, then the camera should zoom into the characters faces as they speak :) And the dialogue of course could use a revamp. The heart events;; some were cute but I kinda needed more to get a deeper feel of the characters if the dialogue doesn't change at all. I always loved seeing the characters slowly change from speaking to you friendly to subtle hints at affection. However I have hopes for the patches! They really do seem to care about putting forth a game to satisfy fans, they didnt shy away from every issue mentioned regarding gameplay and I love feeling like they really have our best interests in mind.

There was something about the game I really liked that I was sure would be changed eventually- as long as your tilled soil is being watered, even by sprinklers, the land doesn’t go flat again. I love not needing to til the soil over and over. I love the skills, too. But those makers need work. I really loved the ones in Story of Seasons best, where they were small buildings that did all the steps to make things. If refined a bit they would have been great! If they were faster to make up for the number of steps, for example. I feel like something similar could be done here. Give you more output, at least, given you have to make so much. Buff the giant makers, maybe.

I’ve really been enjoying olive town so far. It’s actually my first story of seasons game. I have put an obscene number of hours into Stardew Valley though, so I’m familiar with the genre. There are definitely some improvements I would love to see, and many of them are what they are currently working on addressing in the next update. The big thing for me is definitely dialogue with the town’s residents. When a single person can create more interesting characters in Stardew Valley than the whole team that worked on this game, there’s something wrong

For the heart events I have seen I did not realize I was in one until I looked it up. I am on the fence on the makers for early game I don't mind them. For late game though when I need 20 gold bars for one thing it can be demanding. Also what is the rush of unlocking everything. I will say this is a hybrid animal crossing stardew valley game but still has classic Story of seasons game.

The dialogue can be disappointing but I'm not really bothered by the makers. I think 5 or 6 ingot and lumber makers is good enough, especially if you keep up with them. I'm also not trying to speedrun the game. I'm taking it casual since there is no rush to do anything in a specific amount of time.

I got through the end of Spring and I do largely agree with a lot of the points here Some things I would like to add: The festivals are barely interactive and I was extremely disappointed when all I got was a cutscene for the Egg Hunt I can't marry Clemens and that's unacceptable You get what are essentially Pikmin and I like that mechanic Not only does the character's day to day dialogue barely change from a few base-level comments, the stuff they do have to say is pretty generic and doesn't do much to flesh then out The story of this game stresses that it's a run down place down on its luck but you don't really see much tangible change when fixing it up (got up through the Salon extension). Like they portray it as if it's on the verge of dissolution like this is ANB or something but you really don't see much change except the number of faceless NPCs wandering around and that's kind of disappointing since a big selling point of the game is to help improve the commerce of the town. This actually disappointed me enough that I went back to ANB for now The gameplay loop for the farm itself is really fun and gives me Stardew Valley vibes in some ways (of course a farm sim is a farm sim, but the Stardew Valley gameplay loop is generally pretty distinct from the Story of Seasons gameplay loop) The controls are...imprecise? I thought the controller drift on my joycon was just acting up again but talking about it with my roommate (who was playing on a different Switch) confirmed that while joycon drift probably is at least partially responsible, the game design itself also comes into play All in all, I kind of got frustrated with it (probably more because I had high hopes for the game that it didn't meet), but I don't think it's bad, and I'll definitely be trying it again when the next update comes out...in the meantime, I'll be over here rebuilding Echo Village again for the third time 👍

It is a shame that the social aspect is just so boring and how badly the game is lagging on farms that are heavely decorated. But it is great that marvelous is listening to the fans and that we get patches for the makers and the conversations with the towns folk. I have fun with the game but i don't think it is the best from the recent story of seasons games. But i really like that we have a mine again and not the hey here is a rock you can hit 3 times a day to get random stuff.

I've been obsessed with this game since I got it! There are definitely things I dislike/find inconvenient, but overall I'm far from mad. There are so many different things to do and focus on at your own pace! I love the "title" tasks/achievements and skills section because it gives me goals to work towards. The things I miss most from the original SoS (and wish they would bring back) would be maker sheds instead of individual makers... I really don't like having to dedicate so much farmland to makers just to get minimal materials back, even when you unlock the large makers it doesn't seem worth it. I love customizing my farm, but I realllllly wish they would pause time again and make it possible to push around fence/barns/etc. while customizing... Cus if I have to pick up everything from a full storage bin AGAIN just to move it to another part of my farm, I'm going to have no hair by the end of the month 😂

I think some of my opinions may be skewed since I just came off MTAP and SoS FOMT but here goes. I actually like the maker system and the idea of crafting things but it can definitely be improved. Even being able to stack materials (put in 40 logs and get 20 lumber when it's done) would have been nice. I REALLY hope character dialogues and heart events get a revamp. I just got a new boyfriend in game and the dialogue doesn't change, makes me feel like I leveled up the hearts for nothing. And the heart events are with the family and my character seems to be just there and I learn nothing new about the romanceable characters. However the characters are pretty cute and well designed so I hope at least there's a dialogue change. I hope there is some achievement system maybe (I haven't gone through all the Titles yet so correct me if I'm wrong). Even if there aren't festivals to celebrate my farming skills it would have been nice to have achievements (like in FoMT where you have to ship 40 of every crop to unlock something or ship 10-star crops) so there's something to work towards. Even with all that I'm still enjoying the game!! If the patches change the game drastically for the better I may even restart to enjoy all the new things :D

This is my first story of seasons since the split, and so far I've really enjoyed it! I had to put it down for a while because school got busy, but I'll probably wait for at least one update before going back. I give everybody rocks since they have no dislikes (Plus I find it funny), so it'll be nice to get different friendship dialogue as they're slowly befriended by the rock gremlin :b I do definitely miss the character portraits, and I'm now realizing just how much they added to the games, but the insane amount of cutscenes I've gotten makes up for it, especially since the perspective makes you face to face with them (and the character models move!!). I just wish I knew which ones were heart events and which ones were just fun lil scenes (are all marriage candidates scenes heart events??)
@LadyRegalli3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, all marriage candidate scenes are heart events. The two post-split 3DS games are probably my favorites of the series - the dialogue and characterization really got a chance to shine there (especially 3OT, where the characters are just the right balance of quirky to heartfelt and relatable,) and the gameplay is solid. 3OT got a little overly elaborate with its crop/livestock quality systems, and SOS’s field conquests were a really cool concept but got way too big and spread out (especially since you could ONLY get honey, mushrooms, and paddy crops via those fields,) but I love them both dearly - honestly, a Switch port of 3OT that just allows you to romance marriage candidates regardless of gender would be pretty near my perfect game. If you have a 3DS I think they’re both well worth checking out.
@DaBayleef3 жыл бұрын
@@LadyRegalli I always wanted to play trio of towns! I think the only thing that turned me off to them (I think it was this one) was seeing all the different makers because my biggest gripe with ANB was having to get all the materials for clothes before I could get the clothes (since that was the first time I had to experience it) and all I could think was, "Not again!!" Although now if I ever happen across a copy I won't hesitate to pick it up. I've seen a lot of love for it, and I'd like to experience why :D
@LadyRegalli3 жыл бұрын
@@DaBayleef Trio I think does a pretty good job balancing the Makers, especially clothes - there’s a couple things that make it trickier to get some of the outfits using really nice cloth and the like, but there’s a steady sense of progression even when something you’d like isn’t available yet. By early Year Two I’ve always felt like I had a decent variety of outfit options, even if I still had more to unlock. As to the Makers in general, there are ten total, none of them feel superfluous (though I never made full use of the liquid fertilizer one, admittedly,) and apart from a couple item requirements that get tricky (thyme for the jam maker being oddly rare, and the wine maker requiring coconuts and being necessary for a town rank up you’ll hit way before you’ll be able to get them,) they’re not super-difficult to make or use. SOS’s multistep processing sheds were interesting, but ended up feeling unnecessarily complex in a lot of cases. POOT doesn’t have the sheds, but definitely got over-elaborate with the different makers and I think right now they take up more space than SOS. (At least when you account for needing so many.) Worth noting: There will probably be some outfits and recipes you’d like to unlock and have to wait on in Trio, but you get access to more one of three ways - either raising your town link, festival prizes, or a couple of recipes unlocked via Ruins Research. No needing to fish or mine for them like in ANB, and much less elaborate than trade levels and requests and traveling salesmen like in SOS. Which I do love on the whole, but definitely is a longer game in unlocking everything than Trio. I’ve played it several times and still lose steam before getting Tropical Country, and some of the animals can’t be obtained before Year Two or Three.
@suicune20013 жыл бұрын
@@DaBayleef I would definitely recommend Trio of Towns. The marriage candidates are great and I'll still play the game to this day. I have a Powersave 3DS cheat device so I can cheat the game. I cheat all the outfits because I don't feel like dealing with trying to get them. LOL Especially some of the really nice outfits like kimonos. I consider ToT to be a nearly perfect farming sim. Farming is very rewarding, both financially and emotionally. You can use fertilizers to raise the value of your crops and there are festivals to grade those crops. There are different difficulty levels so you compete at the beginner level and then progress to the next level where you need a higher level crop. The progression is very natural and flows well. There's cooking festivals too and cooking is VERY useful. Some of the dishes gives you buffs, like speed upgrade or stamina increase or even making shop items cheaper to buy! Seriously, the amount of effort they put into it is amazing.
@DaBayleef3 жыл бұрын
@@suicune2001 That sounds incredibly similar to a new beginning (which I loved) and I'll definitely need to look into this "powersave 3ds cheat device" thing that you speak of, if only to avoid collecting all the downs I need in ANB to finish off my collection -.- But yeah, comments like this are reinforcing my decision to pick it up next time I see it! Or at least once the semester is over. Olive town already ate up a good chunk of time I should've spent on my final presentation since I have horrible self control :D

Good Review. In my Opinion is Pioneers of Olivetown a good Game and a good start for Beginners. I hadn't the Problem that the game was to overwhelming for me with his Mechanics. It was actually the Opposite. The Mechanics were for me perfect. I knew what to do and had fun in Figuring the stuff out and help my little Sister to learn how to play her first Story of seasons. On the Farming Point is the Game for me Perfect. But in the most other Points I was disappointed. The Museum was the most of the time Boring to me. My Fish tank got Filled by the Gnoms for example. I see no reason why I should cook. After a Time I saw no reason to talk to the Townspeople anymore. I had no real pressure to "evolve" the Town. I don't know how many times I stand by the Majors House and asked me "what is now different?". Not like other Games were I literally could decorate the Town as I was pleased. Also that the tasks on the Blackboard were finished after I delivered 1 request. That was really boring to me. And to Marry was also just something I had to do so I saw everything from the Game. In my down time I was so far that I would give the game a 65 from 100. But after I saw more Town events it became more a 70 from 100. The new update is out and my Husband says finally something new to me. But I'm with you on the Point that the heartevents are really boring and cut in the Middle of the conversation. Right now I did go back to play Friends of Mineraltown. Just to satisfy my wish to interact with the Npc and to Roleplay.
