I went to high school with the guys from the Turtles back in 1965, in Westchester, California, but back then the band was called “The Crossfires” they were supposed to play for the senior prom but they never showed up, they were playing at a club down in Hermosa Beach for some REAL money! lol

@@Frankie5Angels150 Yes, when the Turtles disbanded in 1970, The two singers, Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan formed a duo called, Flo & Eddie, they earned their primary living as session musicians & back-up singers. They first played with Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention, as Phlorescent Leech & Eddie, (shortened to Flo & Eddie) later they worked with such acts as Blondie & The Ramones before making records of their own. They stopped touring in 2018 because Kaylan required heart & back surgery.

I was watching a KZbin video of an interview of Warren Zevon recorded shortly before his death, and I could have sworn he took credit in it for having written this tune for The Turtles. I see though the writing credits actually belong to Alan Gordon and Garry Bonner. Is one of those an early pen name that Zevon used, or did I mishear him in the video?

I was about to point out Clydie! She put out a slew of Phil Spector-inspired singles in the 60s before becoming one of the industry's top session singers. Sadly Clydie passed away a few years ago. Thanks for remembering.

My earliest memory of watching rock acts was on American Bandstand in the mid 1970s and Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve in 1979 going into 1980.

The Turtles as a band ended in 1970, so Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan began peforming as Flo & Eddie on albums and with Frank Zappa. Although Kaylan retired in 2017 due to health issues, Volman and Ron Dante continue to tour to the present day. In this 1976 show they're billed as both The Turtles and "Flo & Ed". Mark Volman has the beginnings of dementia, but he's not retiring yet!
