That is so sad that the principal wouldn’t have just said yes, or asked the teachers outside if they minded. I’m glad that you guys were able to in the end!

Thanks so much for making these videos Amy, I’ve been following since just after Evan was born. I’ve been watching your journey with Henry and learnt about diabetes. Just last month after thinking This will never happen to my family it did. My sweet niece got diagnosed a week before her 8th birthday. Because of you any I wasn’t completely clueless and have able to understand a lot of what was going on. She is currently at her first diabetes camp here in Australia and having a blast.

Maybe because the other mom was a teacher and they didn't want her to constantly bring it up? Seems like common sense to me that it should be with him outside and they would hold it. Sometimes I think they make things a lot harder than they have to be.

Maybe it is because I home school my type I but this just seems so strange to me. Is it that big of a deal to hold a bag?! Obviously not because the clerk was more than willing to do it! I have type I myself and wouldn't want to be that far away from something to treat a low while out in the snow! I remember as a kid dropping like a rock during winter because depending on what you are doing in the snow, it can be quite exhausting! I also don't think a 3rd grader should have to be 100% responsible for that bag either...like you said, it would impede his play and he is still just a kid. Anyway, I'm glad it worked out in the end!

We had sooo many problems with logans school last year for kindergarten they refused to basically do anything and everything was a huge deal. They made it so ridiculous, we are now homeachooling this year an so far its been amazing!. I'm so glad to hear Henry's new school is great, its hard enough eveeything that goes into type 1 schools really need to stop making it harder then it needs to be.

Oh no. I'm sorry to hear that. Ugh. I'm happy homeschooling is going well. We were seriously looking into it when we were going through hard stuff with our school.

Amy, I've been following you since before Charlie was born, and I remember things were going well at your old school initially, but then you had a BAD year - was that 2nd grade? And if so, can you tell us what the problem was? Perhaps it was a different nurse? I enjoy following you because I have a Type I piano student (homeschooled) and I have a granddaughter, age 7, who has severe food allergies and asthma. She gets itchy when it's hot outside, and of course they take any skin rash/bumps/hives very seriously, and the nurse and the health aide at the school have been SUPER nice and helpful, so we are so thankful.

Good question. All of our problems started when he started becoming independent. He wanted to test his own blood sugar.. She wouldn't allow it. That's when it all started. I was all about him becoming Independent.

Probably a liability issue. If he did something himself and messed up somehow, she'd be responsible. Not that it makes it okay of course.

What exactly is a clerk? We don't use that term in Ohio. A teacher? A recess aid? Someone who monitors recess?

Yeah, someone who monitors recess. ☺️ I don't use that term either but I'm the Queen of offending people and knew that was the appropriate term to use. 🤣

I'm glad that someone was holding it in the end. In high school, during gym, I would leave my sugar tester on the bleachers so I could have quick access if I needed it. Until some other kid stole it. Ugh. I don't know if they though it was a wallet or what but after that I left it in my gym locker. More dangerous for my health but safer for my equipment. I didn't have a dexcom at the time so I really preferred to have it on hand.

It is reprehensible that the principal made such a wrong, rash decision. I’m sure the other child was accommodated because her mom “had connections” there-same type of thing happens in church ⛪️...

Okay so I know I’m late to watch this video but whatever so I ave a story so 2-3 years ago I got diagnosed with type1 and that was the beginning of summer when I was in 2nd going to 3rd so school rolled in we told everyone like my class mates my principal the teachers and staff so my parents had a nesting with the principal yateyate ya and my parents asked if they can get a full time nurse and they declined and a couple days later we found out that kids in need of a nurse schools HAVE to get them what they need and they declined. (not what we had witch was a part time nurse) so my mom got furious but delt with it so she had to stay in school from 8am to 3:45pm being with me like out in the hall and stuff so she did it one day she got the flue and called the school saying hey I’m sick I can’t go to school with my son and they said well if you send your son here we will send them of to like child support or something and that’s when they poked momma bear so she kept me home for 2 weeks till she felt better when she felt better she would take me to school stay but I’m her free time like at home she called up a lawyer they said they can’t help but to call this place and they helped they gave us a lawyer and we fought the school everyone knew in the building as we won we were so happy everyone except the principal was happy so we got a nurse And they said we didn’t want a nurse cuse of budget so any day I was not in school they would send my amazing nurse to another school from the day the fight was over I would not look the principally the eyes and when I would see him walk by I would try and not talk and just look down I’m glad I graduated from that school and am in middle school now I will miss my favorite nurse we would make so many funny jokes make sarcastic comments like I would say i give you the award for the worst nurse in the world and stuff I’ll miss all my friends who won’t go to the same school as me I’ll miss my teachers I’ll miss my nurse I’ll miss the staff but one person I won’t miss is my old principal
