Losing Terry is sad yet expected because of his age and health. Windam Rotunda is tragic because he was so young. As a parent you never want to lose a child. God bless their memory.

Maybe so, but two things: First, does anyone really "expect" it? Rationalise if you want, but celebrity or no, as much as people say, " it was expected", it never truly is. Second, building on the first, no one ever "expected" Terry Funk. He'll kick the arse of Death as he kicked so many arses before. He's Terry Funk! He'll ALWAYS be around! A Funk does not simply "die"!

@@sfpincchicago I agree with you it doesn't matter if it's expected or not it still hits very hard if you loved someone if that's your family or you're friend or in someone like Terry case if you was just a fan of his. My dad was ill for a long time and it got to point we knew he was gonna eventually pass and soon but when he did it still felt like such a shock. You can expect these things to happen but can never be fully prepared when it does.

Yep, nobody's promos were as great as Terry's. I'm forever haunted by him saying "Jerry Lawler is a lover of chickens... he's has a one-track mind like a hog at suppertime." I have a book of great quotes, and that line of Terry's is in there alongside Shakespeare. :)

This was one of the best Dutch shows I've listened to. A couple of answers to questions raised: 1) Terry and Victor (Quinones) were extremely tight. Victor was a go'fer/showrunner in WWC and they built up trust very fast. Lifelong bond. 2) Onita was entirely influenced to do FMW based on his Memphis and PR stints. He and Fuchi wrestled in a Tupelo concession stand brawl. He got the fire ideas from PR. He and Victor recreated the Brody stabbing in an angle. 3) There were three Ganryujima rain forest island matches: Inoki vs. Masa Saito 2 hour match in '87, Hase vs. Tiger Jeet Singh in '91, and then Onita & Tarzan Goto vs. Sheik & Sabu in '92. 4) The Gary Hart book is extraordinarily hard to find. It's at least several hundred dollars to find a hard copy. It's incredible.

Memphis wrestling was AMAZING at what it did. There was some great talent there, but they also made compelling TV out of not-great talent. Tony Falk is not a great wrestler at all, but I got drawn into some of his storylines. I still remember the "man of the 90's" thing they did with him. William "Freezer" Thompson was a jobber but even he had a bit of a run for a while because Lance and Dave played up his improvements, and some bad-guy stable tried to bring Freezer in. Memphis knew how to use what it had. You don't need a great wrestler if you know how to use what you've got. The crowd will get behind a guy with almost no skill if they feel some sympathy for him, or fear for him under a threat, or get mad at him if he's being vicious... the crowd will get behind just about anybody if they're interested in them for some reason. Hell, Downtown Bruno and Jimmy Hart never did anything wrestling-wise and yet they're still icons because Memphis knew how to use 'em correctly.

James you’re a good co host but very lucky you have Dutch with you cause he’s the star of the show and brings the credibility and interest by long time fans. I never cared for him as a wrestler but didn’t see much of him but I find him quite interesting of a man and former wrestler whom I tend to believe most of the time he’s very honest and funny with lots of stories and would make a great color commentator on wwe blowing away the boring wanna bed they just hired recently on smack down for a Canadian show. James you’re a smart man to team up with Dutch and I can tell he likes you. I had never heard of you before but because of your show with Dutch I see you’re very well informed and unlike some mouth pieces from other shows you let the star shine which keep me returning to see what stories I’ll hear from the Dutch Man and what interesting question will arise from your curiosity. It would have been more succinct for Dutch to say that he would not agree to any of the death match gimmicks that were mentioned. 😆 Terry Gordy joined the IIWA king of the deatch match tourney, then figured out he really didn't want to get powerbombed on barbed wire or thumb tacks. Funk and Foley put their bodies through hell that night, with each of rhem making it through three exceedingly brutal matches. Cactus Jack was the eventual winner, but paid a hell of a price with second and third degree burns all over his arms and back.

Sting is definitely having a resurgence. I mean at 64 years old what do you want? He could have stayed retired and gone out with a bad memory of what the WWE did to him. Sting still gets a pop, and it's not so much about Sting, it's about Sting passing the torch to the next generation, giving Guys the rub just being in the ring with them even if they don't touch or lock up. Sting just made a very rare appearance at a independent wrestling event for AR Fox's WWA4 Wrestling. A man of his stature doesn't have to do anything and the fact that he shows up on AEW, appears on the Indies and wrestled in Japan with the Great Muta is a testament to the fact Sting is definitely doing his thing. And you guys talk about it it's not so much about the wrestling itself but telling a story, so I don't know why you are talking about Sting and how little he wrestles compared to how often he appears on AEW programming. Personally I'm happy to see Sting in any role because one people dropping like flies after everyone was vaccinated so we don't know who's next to pass away Suddenly and Unexpectedly and two, at Stings age he wont be around forever. And Sting got me to pop because initially I thought he was going to be used basically in cinematic matches using body doubles to do his bumps, nope the man went above and beyond and I have nothing to complain about. In fact I think Tony Khan should make Sting the champion instead of CM Punk

People called him the franchise of WCW, for me, he's the franchise of wrestling itself. Whenever I see a WCW, TNA, and AEW letters. The first wrestler that popped up out of my head is Sting. He really lives and breath wrestling.
