Need to get unions out of education. My teacher in elementary school made less money only had two years college education and better than 90% of schools today where kids graduate without being able to read at a second grade level.

I homeschool my kids for an entire year on less money than a month of private school. And they get it done in half the time, and get to pursue extras for the rest of the day.

Homeschooling is the future of America, if the parents have integrity. A kid has almost no chance at life success with ignorant, incompetent parents, IF they even have PARENTS.

"I know my kids are learning when I look in their eyes" This statements spits in the face of logic, science, and the very foundation of education. What he really means is I don't care how well my students do as long as they feel good inside. I pity the children who go out in life after an education like this and have to make something of themselves based on their own merit. Say good bye to work ethic and responsibility and welcome another generation of kids who believe the world owes them something for "free".

Teachers and teacher unions need to be accountable ---- like everyone else. Teachers and teacher unions are guilty of allowing 30 to 40% of their peer group to "pretend teach." Get rid of the dead wood and take teaching and learning serious. You want to know if teachers are doing their jobs? Asked the kids - they'll give you an education.

I just want to ask: do teachers unions ever strike for the sake of the students? Or is it always for the "rights", or issues, directly involving the teachers? In other words, are these teachers unions truly advocates for students??

Teachers should never have had unions. Fire them all.

Standardized testing is not what we need. All it does is rank us for colleges. Colleges can use entry exams to gauge their incoming students. They don’t need the government to do it for them.
