As I get older and my tastes mature, this style of watch becomes more appealing. Now my preferred size is 38 to 40mm with a lug to lug no larger the 47mm

The small seconds manual wind version of this watch is my next 'big' watch purchase for me. Little bit thinner and like the small seconds on a subtle dress watch. Great video...cheers!

Agreed. Something about the small seconds version with Roman numerals just looks better proportioned

I think it would actually work great on you as a dress watch. This Stowa and a black suit would be class.

Have a Stowa Flieger 40mm manual wound, one of my only watches that works and looks exactly the same as day 1 after 4 years of use as a toolwatch. Amazing build quality, and the Marine 36 sure is my next purchase from them, but in manual wind!
@pmwheatley7 ай бұрын
Why do you prefer manual wind? I'm considering a bronze marine 36, but can't decide on the movement. I don't have a manual wind only in my collection.

I'm not a big fan of dress watches, but it looks well built, and the dimensions are great! It's still a pass for me. That type of dial just isn't interesting enough for my taste, but I guess everything has its place!

Rob, interested to get your perspective on this Stowa 36 Marine Roman vs Nomos Orion 35; which would you choose based on everything; price, design, colors, movements, etc.?

Smaller crown (like the 2002 & 2006 versions) and the 'Made in Germany' back on the dial and I would own this already!

Looks quite big for a 36mm. I guess it is because of the relatively large dial

Nice watch how would this compare to a dekla marine both seem similar but the dekla being slightly cheaper
@pacmanfl2 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge, the Dekla marine uses the Unitas 6498 pocket watch movement which you can’t stuff into a case less than 40mm. In fact, I’ve never seen a marine deck watch less than 40mm other than this. These type of watches are all dial and wear large. I’ve seen a few 40mm versions that I liked but am sure it’ll look like a dinner plate on my 6.5in wrist.

They used to have silver dials. Wonder if those are discontinued.

stowa was actually sold to a new owner I heard but its still in the same factory
@aleskb2 жыл бұрын
I think they integrated a group but keep their technical autonomy, so watches continue being assembled by same team in same assembly.
@tiguanalex2 жыл бұрын
The watch is undoubtedly chic. Simple, but at the same time, very high quality made. But why do most people prefer manual winding? Due to 1mm thickness difference? In my opinion, the machine is more practical. I really want to buy such a watch!
@MJFallout2 жыл бұрын
It depends on whether you dress formally often or not. The more dressy a watch is, the less often you might actually wear it, and subsequently automatic winding and a date complication might feel more like a chore than a feature.
@graciousideals1509 Жыл бұрын
I feel like a dork responding to a one year old comment but screw it lol Mechanical watches to me aren't really practical. They're much more fragile, need more maintenance and significantly less accurate than quartz. If I'm going mechanical, i'm taking the "fun" route with a handwinding. The movement usually looks better, I like the tactile feedback more, and I have complete control over its power reserve.

I was debating the 40mm in this
@RobertOrtiz10152 жыл бұрын
The 40mm might be the one for you and your wrist size
@khronokraze2 жыл бұрын
I wanted the small seconds version that is 38mm, I believe. But, I don't like they used 18mm lug width. Sure, maybe 18 might be more proportional to the overall dimensions. But, 20 wouldn't have looked bad and of course can reuse 20mm straps which most of us have already if we wanted to . And these watches can be strap monsters to dress up and down. 18mm just seems a bit too dainty, IMHO. Other than that, great made to order German watches from Stowa.
@aleskb2 жыл бұрын
You can find plenty of 18mm straps for cheap. Between having awkward proportions to be able to save 30 usd using 2 old straps that fit the watch design, and having 18mm lugs + widening my strap collection, I easily prefer the 2nd option! ;)
@khronokraze2 жыл бұрын
@@aleskb I'm not concerned about being able to find 18mm.. I know there are plenty. I have some already. I just find the size too dainty.
@Enrico-2 жыл бұрын
@@khronokraze actually there are two 36mm small seconds versions both with arabic and roman numerals which the case identical to the watch in the video but with the Peseux 7001 inside. There is though the 40mm version. Stowa watches are always: 36mm case/18mm lug widht and 40mm case/20mm lug widht.
@khronokraze2 жыл бұрын
@@Enrico- I am aware. However, the small seconds versions are only in 36mm and 41mm. Central seconds versions come in 36mm and 40mm.
