I've had one for two years now (except mine has a standard second hand vs. the 60 second track at the bottom). Absolutely no problems. It may get a minute off every 6-8 weeks at most. The "silver" dial looks great. I don't think they offer it any more. I actually had a co-worker mention the "blue" hands one day. It will run for about 1 3/4 days without wearing it. This was probably the most extravagant purchase in my entire life. Totally satisfied and feel it was money well spent.

I've enjoyed mine for about 10 years now and am about ready to pass it on to my son. Mine is polished with a bright white dial.This watch is undervalued, IMHO.
@wvfreebyrd35877 жыл бұрын
How has the "polished" look held up over time. Has it faded, worn off or tarnished? Thought about getting one but that question is what is holding me back.
@yousif51913 жыл бұрын
Wv I will answer on John's behalf. No it does not change unless you are planning to take it literally and go marine exploring 😂😂😂

Sorry for the delay. This is a solid stainless steel case. It has held up very well with no rub off, discolouration or otherwise.

Beautiful underrated classic. Love it! This one with the silver dial is the one to buy!

You can hack the 6498 if you let the power run down sufficiently...just pull out the crown, apply back pressure to the crown to stop the seconds hand, then release it to restart the seconds hand. Push the crown in, and then wind the watch. It's an easy watch to regulate, too, most any competent watch maker can regulate it for you to COSC specs of -4 to +6 seconds a day.

love your review of my favorite watch, I bought the stowa Marine original with the white dial about a month-and-a-half ago, I have about 35 watches in my little collection and I have so much trouble changing that watch for any of the other ones, so it's safe to say that I haven't worn any other watch but my new stowa Marine original, such a beautiful timepiece, can't get enough of it. When I was deciding to purchase the watch, I was emailing direct to the stowa company, any questions that I had the girls or the employees there answered quite promptly and directly, it was a great experience purchasing my watch through them, I would have to say the watch was easy to sell by itself, but the employees that I deal with at the Stowa company sold the watch as well, Great quality of a product and outstanding service and communication. I'm trying to save up because there is another watch that stowa produces I would love to purchase...

Love this. To me, it looks like an every day A. Lange & Soehne 1815. Fantastic classic design, paired with top-level German execution.

This movement adheres to minimalist standards, is likely one of the most robust ever made, and has the potential to last for many generations and probably no one can compete.

The older I get the less I want (or need) to wear a "polished" dress watch. The brushed case tones this Marine down to a daily wear for me. Thanks.

Can't understand the negativity about the strap. Stowa straps are very good quality and the cream face and brushed case look absolute class on the brown with cream stitching. Very seriously considering buying this exact watch and found this video very helpful. Thanks for posting.

You can hack this watch by pulling out the crown to the setting position, then very, very gently applying backwards twisting pressure (like you are going to turn the hands counterclockwise) until you feel the spot where you can hold back the mainspring and stop the seconds hand. Don't use enough force to actually move the hands, it's just a very delicate twisting force to stop and hold the movement. The watch will start again as soon as you release the pressure. This works with most handwinding watches including vintage watches and things like Speedmasters. It's easier to do when the watch isn't fully wound; if the watch is run down I normally wind a couple of turns to start the movement, use this hacking trick to set the time, then fully wind it. With a little practice you can stop and hold the seconds hand exactly at 12.
@carlosmaeda7767 жыл бұрын
mmmm interesting, do I risk ruining the movement doing this?

I would not recommend doing this "hacking" trick.

Wow real classic config with Small seconds hand and Arabic numerals and manual movt. But I like watching big seconds hands and like a rotor to wind it for me while I wear. I also kinda like the Roman numerals since it reminds me of older times.

May I know how we can set the time on this watch? As you mention the watch having non hacking movement, if the watch run 5 minutes faster eventually and I wanted to adjust the time 5 minutes backwards, can I just adjust it counterclockwise? Does it damaged the movement?

I was seriously interested in the version without the subdial, but with a regular secondshand. Didn’t know it’s not hackable. That’s a dealbreaker unfortunately. Too bad, because it’s a great looking watch.

What ever you do, don't fall off the boat. It only has 50m water resistance. You would think that would be good enough to swim back to the boat but no. It offends my sensibilities that you can't swim in a marine watch. Otherwise it is an amazing watch that I will not buy.
@H0kram4 жыл бұрын
@Marcquise White 50m of water pressure can be achieved in a household. There's already 30m worth of water pressure coming out of a kitchen tap. This pressure includes the force one applies on the water, for example while jumping and swimming and pushing the watch through the water. 50 meters depth is just a reference for the force it can deal with. I'd say it can take a peaceful day at the pool but not much more.
