I've had my eye on the 40 mm no-date version of this watch for some time now. Ticks all my boxes for a dress watch with one small exception. White dial, Roman numerals, blue hands, ETA movement, handwinding, display back. I'd put a dark brown crocodile strap on it. So what's holding me back? The lack of "Made in Germany" on the dial at 6 o'clock. I almost fell out of my chair when TGV mentioned this, too, at 25:53, as I thought I was just being picky. Ah well, I'll get over it and pull the trigger eventually. Edit: This morning I went on their website and did a "Live Chat" with a Stowa rep. Per the rep, the white dial now shows "Made in Germany" below the 6 o'clock position. Sweet! And much to my surprise, she gave me a discount code worth about $20. Placed the order for the watch and croc strap. Should be here in about three weeks. Merry Christmas to me!

Bartosz Samsel it certainly does. It’s everything that TGV says about it in this video. It’s quite beautiful on the wrist. I stare at it on my wrist now for the same reason you stare at the Stowa website. Though I said I bought it, others of my family contributed as it was a present for a significant birthday. Needs the old Stowa logo, 100m of water resistance, a brushed case, no date window, MADE IN GERMANY on the bottom of the dial, and the dial itself should be cream or off-white. Otherwise it's perfect.

At the one I have, the Stowa Flieger Classic 36mm (handwinding movement and logo and without date window) I've measured +4 seconds/day.

Great review, loved the historical background information. I'm curious about the watch height. I had contacted Stowa previously and was told "the thickness of the Marine Klassik 36 with the hand winding movement is 9.2 mm. Its one mm thinner then the Automatic watch." Was sad to now hear that your watch was just under 11mm. Not a deal breaker, but being under 10mm would have been fantastic!

Great review for a great watch. In the FAQ section on the STOWA website they actually explain, that they do regulate the movements, from 0 to max. +10 sec or depending on the actual movement +15 sec per day. I would also prefer the handwinding version, but as a Flieger with the B-dial. Thanks for sharing and happy new year!

Yes. I am in the same situation as you trying to find anything 38mm and under at around the $200-400 usd mark. Annoyingly, only vintage! Orient star is okay, would like 36mm ad the sweets spot.

FWIW, I contacted Stowa just a few weeks ago to ask about the case depth for the hand-wound movements. I received the following: "Kindly note the thickness of the Marine Klassik with the ETA 2804-2 is 9,2 mm. The thickness of the watch with hand winding movement is one mm flatter then the watch with automatic movement." I wonder then; could this also be a factor of the date complication? Or, perhaps, a shortage of the thinner cases?
