Simply, the Guarneri is darker and amplified, which I'm surprised of considering that they are usually small models. The Stradivarius is lighter and more cheerful.

After listening twice to the recordings, I've noticed that the Stradivarius violin has a soprano pitch as compared to the Guarneri which has a low alto to tenor pitch. The Stradivarius was also more sensitive to the touch when she pressed her fingers. The Guarneri was a lot more slower and mellow to respond when the fingers, pressed the strings. I also noted one more thing which is what I believe the Stradivarius gets it's more pricey value, and that is .... TA RA: That while, I was listening to the performance, the music sounded more spontaneous and more richer. Meaning the music sounded as if the sound was being created, right at that precise moment. The Stradivarius violin makes one want to create music as opposed to the Guarneri; which sounds as if, the music has gotten out dated and long forgotten. For me, the sound of the Stradivarius makes me want to create music for the violin, because it's crispness and freshness of sound inspires me as a composer to compose.

The Del Gesu is probably worth more. I would say the Strad is more elegant, with more harmonics, while the Del Gesu is more piercing and faster. There are 600 Strads and 80-100 Del Gesu's in existence. I would say this IS A marvelous Strad. and an average Del Gesu, probably one of the last he ever made, so he may not have had his full faculties, but one he made two years earlier is the most valued violin on the planet.

It sounded like the Guarnieri was more damped - no overtones or aftertones. At the higher end, these aftertones made the Strad sound richer, but at the lower end, the damping made the Gaurn richer.

The Guarneri seems to have a fuller more soothing sound on each note. The Strad seems more thin and shrill on each note. To my amateur naive ear, I prefer the Guarneri. Thanks for the lovely sounds.

0:40 Strad / 2:23 Guarneri Del Gesu 0:45 Strad / 2:28 Guarneri Del Gesu 0:54 Strad / 2:36 Guarneri Del Gesu 1:02 Strad / 2:58 Guarneri Del Gesu Sry I did these for myself to be able to jump quickly but if you try it yourself, you can really hear the difference. Just listen to a few seconds and just click on the timestamp of the other violin for direct comparison. Guarneri Del Gesu are hands down my absolute favorite violins, those are truly masterful.. imo even better than Strads but dont come for me :D Btw, the first violinmaker Guarneri was Del Gesu's grandfather who had learned from the master Amati himself. He passed those skills down to his son who then passed them on to Guarneri Del Gesu who made this violin in the video =) So kinda important to know which of the Guarneri family actually made it One day if Im rich I'll get one haha just believe

it takes time to assess these instruments which one is better or is it really nice instrument by itself! a lot of factors....strings! (a bunch of brands that u can mix up), bow, (some violins might sound better with its right bow), acoustic place, soundpost adjustment......my violin before i thought its really bad but when i gave it a chance to open up and experimented on different strings and adjusted the soundpost ....now its a jewel

Gotta hand it to the Guarneri. The Strad was a bit brighter with a more focused tone. I can see why people would like it, but the brightness tends to be a bit unpleasant on my ears. The darkness of the Guarneri helped it be a little more balanced and I believe more complex.

I'm a Guarneri del Gesu appasionato for life. They're just that bit more mellow or 'round' in their sound. Not as bright and full on but fantastically beautiful in their colours and textures. I will always prefer a Guarneri over a Stradivari every time. Oh how I wish there were more of them so that those of us with less $$ might be able to have one as it's only the scarcity that makes them so expensive. Oh, how I wish I had one. : {

The Guarneri copy is my preference -the Strad copy is wonderful but I really liked the body of the Guarneri (despite that your player didn't do as well on that one). Pending finish and a real mic to compare harmonics and resonance, I'd get the Guarneri. If I got the Strad I'd switch the Dominants for a full set of Evah Gold to give it more projection (and a bit more sweetness?). I'd definitely try the Titanium Solo on the Guarneri (at least the D and the A), see how that projected the body and added some responsiveness (or not). It's got suchh body and it just needs to project it more, and that would be done via the string choice. Have you tried them with just a basic string (Tonica) to see how they compare? I'd also recommend playing them in a concert hall if you're using that cam to do it- the frequencies will carry and resonate in the hall in a way that little cam mic might be able to pick up better about 25-35' from the stage. Nice work!

Strads and Strad models always have a luminiscent resonance in their sound all the time especially in the highest notes, they just glow like crystal. Guarneris on the other tend to be full blooded -- their high notes can be savage and they just can't be beaten on the sheer spectrum of colours and tones they produce.

Love this kind of video ! Guarneri is very powerful and deep, but between those two I do prefer the Strad, the soft brightness coming out of it just makes the music so emotional (can't explain better !), it kind of communicates lot of subtle emotions. Guarneri here is more about darkness, power and rich tones and the strad more about pure brightness, buttery softness and subtility.

I've always preferred Guarneri models and violins because of the darker tone, but I do agree that between these two particular violins the Strad does seem to sound clearer and more pure. That could also be the player. Not that she is bad or anything, but of course everyone has their own unique way of playing, and the Strad could just sound better because of the way she plays. In general I've always felt that I sound better playing a Guarneri, but I can see now that I could be led to change my mind.

I would say the guarneri could sound too aggressive with the dynamics of some songs notes due to its nature of engulfing the sound and compressing into a bold detailed sound however it manages to keep smoothness throughout . When done right it sounds more technically cable. The stradi, more open manages to exhaust the sound without turbulence or compression leaving it to hear less of the body and rather the smoothness of the bow. The stradi has a softer leading edge.

Hopefully everybody understands that this is not about real Stads or Guarneris. These are nice Strad- and Guarneri- copies by Mityo Dimitrov. They both sound really good, but it is of course difficult to the real sound in a KZbin recording. I would pick the Guarneri copy. What would it cost.? My guess is 5000 - 7000 USD.

Please correct me if I'm wrong as I am a complete ignorant as to how violin tones work. In my observation the Guarneri sounds like it has more bass to it which I think would be drowned out when played with other instruments (e.g. in an orchestra). While the Stradivari sounds more balanced but has more treble which seems like it would cut through other instruments making it more audible.
