Clicked to learn more of mileage, practicality, cost of use of an electric car. Would be nice if you could add that plus percentage of battery before/after charging/price in a box or below. I do not understand your comment about the shower in the end. I have travelled all the Scandinavian countries and never have I had a room without a shower. Just a matter if you have a bathtub also or not, but never had a room without a shower. In Denmark and Norway there are close to as many chargerstations as gasoline stations, it is not an issue.Some places in Sweden still not fully covered but as long as you are on a roadtrip on the move you can get charging along the way, problem only if you stay in areas with no or few chargers. On top, especially in Denmark you also can use the even better, environmentally, hydrogen fuel stations. In my opinion the real long term future solution are hydrogen engine driven cars. Not hybrids producing electricity from hydrogen but direct hydrogen injection engines using 4 stroke system just as gasoline cars. They, just as the windmills producing the electricity to make the hydrogen, dont use rare earth materials and can, after end of life, be "thrown in the oven" and new windmills and hydrogen engines can be produced from the old material with ease, and new technology and knowledge can be added. Optimal for the circular economy and material use we have to adapt to if we wanna leave a functioning planet for our kids. Batteries in electric cars demand rare earth materials and even after a complicated and energy heavy recycling process you still need to add new rare earth materials. Just like same countries never got telephone cables in the ground and saved fortunes going directly to wireless, countries now can go directly to hydrogen without covering their nation with electric charger stations. A current gas station can add a underground hydrogen tank and you can fuel your car just as fast as a gasoline one. Hydrogen are made with electricity and water and when burned hydrogen only emits....water!First step in hydrogen production produces hydrogen gas but if you wanna make sure you have power when the wind does not blow or have storage for the winter you can convert your gas to very storage efficient hydrogen liquid. 1 liter of hydrogen liquid contains same energy as around 540 liters of gasoline so it is superefficient for storage and long transport over fx. oceans. Just as natural gas today are liquefied and frozen for shiptransport same can be done with liquified hydrogen thus removing risk that a leak can cause an explosion. If we imagine a oiltanker breaking in rough sea vs a liquefied, frozen or not, hydrogen tankship the last would simply, without longterm harm, partly dissolve in the water and partly rise to the surface/atmosphere and dissolve there without harm. Hydrogen are the real solution for all our engine and transport needs. Energy comes from the wind and the sun and a simple calculation can locally in your country tell you how much of each you need to have to produce what you overall need to set aside for hydrogen production to compensate for days with no sun/wind and heavy usage periods, like winter.

What is this nonsense about showers in Scandinavia? I’ve closed to 100 hotels across the region and can’t recall a single one without a shower. Many will have a tub with a shower over the tub but never one without a shower.

Have rented an ID3 from Bergen Airport for a month to get to Nord Kap and back to Bergen mid June to mid July - interested to know how you got on with paying for charging. Did the rental company give you a special card (you appeared to be tapping a dongle on the contactless pads) or an app? We are renting from Hertz who claim they will give me a “card” which will then send the bill to me about 2 weeks after we hand the car back (at Hertz per kw fee I assume!) I would prefer to use my own Mastercard/Amex Card if possible - I’m from Scotland so would be Interested to hear your experience paying with an overseas card. Am really looking forward to the trip, more so since your video shows a lot more scenery than Bjorn shows in his!

Paying for charging would’ve been challenging if I didn’t work in the industry and have connections to get a charging RFID through unusual means. If you’re from Scotland, you may be better off as I believe you can download Plugsurfing or other similar services that are not offered to Americans due to app region locks and things. Your best bet for a North Cape trip is likely to use Tesla Superchargers - change your address on the app to a Norway address (it doesn’t have to be real) and then you’ll be able to activate them on the Tesla app for a non-Tesla and they have chargers open all along the west coast of Norway.

@@brandenflasch thanks for that, I’m a Mini SE driver at home so never tried using Tesla chargers. I have downloaded two apps and hopefully with the card or whatever Hertz gives us will also work everywhere we will need it to!

@@brandenflasch Brandon it’s been a disaster with Hertz! I booked the car in early April - showed up at their Bergen Airport desk to be told “fresh out of EV’s, we’ve given you a Toyota Corolla Self Charging Hybrid Wagon………” it better than walking but has not given me the “experience Norway’s superb EV charging network” experience that I was looking for………… I have complained to Hertz who have recently been having a big “We are No1 in EV rentals” social media campaign - as I posted on their Facebook advert I got a very quick reply but still didn’t get the ID3 I wanted! I must say in the Toyota’s favour that it is an amazingly frugal car and I’m getting around 800km per tank, 4.5l/100km and while that has meant no “range anxiety” whatsoever even though I would have liked an EV for the holiday.

Hmm, your registrationplate did not start with E, as in electric, that does not sit right with me. Tollstations uses the registrationplate to set the price of passing. Its much cheaper to pass a Toll with an electric car than with a fossilefuled car. I hope you had a toll-id-reader installed on the frontshield or you might have been overpaying every time you passed a toll and/or used a ferry.

This "non-E letter" arrangement has been optional in Norway since the first EV was registered (fun fact: Staværn Bilfabrik in Norway built and registered EV lorries a hundred years ago, in 1919). Source, a quote from TU in their 13 Feb 2020 issue (Teknisk ukeblad, a Norwegian tech/engineering magazine): "Statens Vegvesen [Norwegian Public Roads Administration] Senior Advisor Jon Terje Presthus replies that it is possible to assign regional/county plates [initial letters other than "E..."] when registering an electric car in Norway. This has always been possible when registering at a Statens Vegvesen traffic station, Presthus states. From 25 November 2019, dealers also had the opportunity to [remotely] register electric cars with such geographical plates via the vehicle registration system AutoSys, says Presthus". End quote. How to associate a registration plate with vehicle engine type (EV, petrol, diesel, ...) is nothing more of a conundrum to a IT system relational database than how to associate a registration plate with its vehicle owner by optical scan of the plate or optional AutoPass account (via windscreen AutoPass RFID, which every Norwegian rental car, and many other cars, use for tolls and ferries. More info at autopass_no). ...So, no problem at all, and happy days. Cheers!
