There was a Harley guy who used to sit at the stop sign across the road and rev for several minutes at a time. I always assumed it was because his bike wouldn't idle when it was cold (he lived a short distance away from said stop sign). I do remember him stalling the bike at the stop sign at least once and laughing to myself at how poorly maintained it must be.

He's a car guy so he probably understands it's actually a very different experience to drive a large truck, nevermind one with a lift kit and performance package. It's a lot different from driving a car. Kinda like the difference between riding a liter bike and riding a 50cc scooter. You're in command of a hell of a lot more power and you need to be more careful or if you do hurt someone, it's likely going to be a lot worse. You're almost to the point of driving a small house when you start getting past the F250 mark. It's a weird experience. Would recommend if operating large machinery feels good for you.

On the way back from the first RCR car meet, before the pandemic, my friend was in his Fiat 500, and I was in my thunderbird. He was following me because I wasn't sure if I was going to make it back, and in my rear-view mirror, I watched a brodozer roll coal on him and damn near blind him. The guy pulled up alongside me and, with his facial expression and hand gestures, seemed to communicate "look at that dork! Sure got him, huh?" And in response, I raised my hands in the universal "what are you doing!" gesture. He got flustered, pulled in front of me, and blinded me for a good few seconds by rolling again, before taking off ahead of us. Honestly, it feels more like dogs peeing on hydrants to mark territory, but instead of physical territory, it's conceptual territory, wherever they may go. People can express themselves, sure, but douchebags can express themselves too. I do enjoy Mr. regular's perspective here, though, because the idea of it being a hyper-masculine almost caricature of straight "patriotism" certainly rings true. Also, I know this isn't quite what he meant, but I'm going to be thinking about the idea of being "patriotic" for being straight for a while.
@MeatballYaro23 ай бұрын
I genuinely view all brodozer drivers as the individual you described. Probably because I've never come across a single good guy who drives one.
@BigChiefWiggles3 ай бұрын
I like a good exhaust sound, some cars are a pleasure to listen to, you dont even use the radio in one of those because listening to the engine/exhaust is that good. But creating that sound takes skill, skill that most "tuners" dont have, and instead the sound they tend to create is somewhere closer to a wet fart, or a can full of bolts, or some other assault on your hearing that really shouldnt be anywhere near a public road.

@gabrielgingras8143 ай бұрын
To further the analogy, much like we can make the distinction between someone who loves his truck for the way it looks, the way it feels inside and how he feels driving it, and someone who tweaks the exhaust to coal roll EVs, we must make the difference between people who just want to be accepted for who they are joining the pride parade for a sense of belonging, and those enacting their fantasies in front of children at that same parade.

feels like the same difference between the 'minimum-effort bolt-on money spender' you find at your local car meet, and the person you know that min-max's their vehicle to suit their goal(s). Therefore, one vehicle's loud to meet the goals of perceived societal norms. The other vehicle's loud simply as a byproduct of understanding the benefits of an exhaust system with reduced backpressure. Three guesses to tell which is which.
