Bore Size has nothing to do with the professionalism of the instrument. There are small bore, medium bore, and large bore, and other bore sizes. In the US school system up until the middle 1970s used only two sizes, small bore horns without triggers, and the large bore bass trombones which was a 547. At about that time, college professors, almost all classically oriented people started pushing for larger and larger bore horns. And school band directors, trained at those colleges, followed them, so today we have the so-called 547 tenor trombone with a trigger. Very unfortunately, the very war-horses revered by these not-professional trombone playing band directors, for instance The Holst Suites, barely resemble the sound the composer intended, when played by the oh so typical, college band of today with nine 547, slide baritones w/triggers, and three 2&3 trigger slide F-tubas. Or so it seems to me, 64 years on trombone, 25 years in Army Bands. My 1st paid gig was on 2nd with Jack Green, on lead, Urbie’s brother, in1963. BTW: the Bach 16m is a .509 bore. Its most well know player is Bill Watrous. The Bach 16m Stradivarius is one of the most revered professional trombones ever created. However, I prefer my Bach Strad model 34 .522 bore to all others. It has no trigger. Doesn’t need one. But it does have a pure rich dark tone quality no trigger horn can match! Period! Full stop!

I play a small shank, and my king 3B is small too with trigger, also play baritone horn and American euphonium with same small shank, so I went big and go Eb tuba, depends the style of music

Hmmm, this is not entirely accurate, is it? There are large bore straight horns that take large shank mouthpieces and have large bells (King 4B, Bach 42, Conn 8H...) and small/medium bore horns with F-attachments and smaller bells (such as the King 3B-F...). A bit misleading.

I agree. However, it's true about the low F-C, etc. on the one hand. But on the other hand it depends on whether or not you play music that requires those notes. Additionally, according to Greg Luscombe, Jay Jay Johnson, Bill Watrous, Slide Hampton (who played a large bore, straight bone), Curtis Fuller, Carl Fontana, etc., and a local monster trombonist Reginald Cyntje (large bore, straight bone) never developed beyond the straight, beginner trombones.

I said in my initial quote, that Greg Luscombe, the author of this video seems to claim that only beginners play straight trombones and using his logic, Jay Jay Johnson, Bill Watrous, Curtis Fuller and etc. must be beginners. The trigger changes the airflow to the f attachment thus changing the key of the instrument

Get one, they're great! Just take care of it like it's your baby. They get really hard to move the slide if you leave it in its case all summer.

yes but for obvious reasons it's not common for that to be the case
