Very good practice this Daniel. A slower shorter draw back is what I’ve been working on recently. It’s slowly coming together as I’m feeling the dart and having so much more control with arm speed. Fantastic average you had there, well done 👍🏻🎯

A quick and simple way to practice scoring is just to have 10 throws and then keep trying to beat whatever score you get. It's pretty easy to count in your head and then divide by 10 to work out the 3-dart average. You can do this several times and work out an overall average of the averages and then each day try to beat your best score from the previous day. It's useful also for setting a benchmark relative to your level. e.g. for you, you'd aim to get 900 or above for a 90 average whereas I'm satisfied if I get 700.

One thing I can't find anywhere is: when holding the dart up to your face, what do people actually look at? Is it the dartboard? is it the blurry tip of the dart? Is it both i.e. are you lining the tip of the dart with where you are aiming? Maybe a point on the hand is being lined up? It's frustrating that nobody really addresses this part, yet it feels like it will be a key aspect of the throw.
@Straightdarts Жыл бұрын
You need to visualise the path you want to dart to fly down. Imagine a line going from the target to the dart and all the way to the position you draw back to. Aim on the line, drawback down the line and throw the dart down the line. The dart should always be under your line of sight.

Nice little throw. Why do your points look white? Have you scuffed them severely?
@Straightdarts2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I stick the dart in a drill and sand them so that the tip is ruffled up to halfway. Gerwyn Price and Daryl Gurney do the same thing. :)

Dude, I don't know if you have time, but I have a couple of quick questions. Should the throwing action be something like the hand on a clock, moving in a semi-circular motion, or is it something more of a straight thrust, more like a shotput action? I've been practicing for 3 or 4 hours a day for around 5 months and I've hit a point where my throw keeps going off on me and my darts are hanging tail down in the board. It takes me between 30 mins to an hour to fix and sometimes it lingers for days. It's fair dinkum doing my head in, but I just don't know if I have the action right....or if both work? Lastly I was wondering if wrist cock is necessary in the throw, and I guess a flicking action at the end with the hand? Just going back to the throw itself, is the correct action thrusting straight at the target with a full extension of the arm? Sorry mate, this comment is all over the place, as I've just walked away from the board very frustrated hahaha. I think I might need a lesson or two to sort this out, but thanks in advance 😉

More like a semi circle. Keep the elbow still and flick the wrist.

Not really, I'm a big advocate for learning to count. I couldn't score the board when I started, but after four years of playing, I was working in the financial services for a multi-billion pound company. Education comes in different forms, and I can work out a game of 501 just in my head despite my dyslexia. :)

@josephmoses9388 Жыл бұрын
How do you teach yourself to only have a short draw back?
@Straightdarts Жыл бұрын
It's all about timing. I used to try and throw without a draw back. You'll need a good technique. You'll have to keep your elbow still and just throw from your wrist and fingers. Also trying to get a little pause at the end of the draw back is important. :)

I'm not quite good enough for that to be honest. Iv had alot of averages in around 70 to 85 this year and good few in 90s but iv only averaged a 100 or more three times in competitive darts all year. I have a load of students better than me that and I'm sure on of them will get a card this year, but I'm not ready yet.
